Shiraishi’s Recorded Reiatsu

Properties

Strength and Endurance

• Output and stamina are separate. After Azashiro warns him against fighting recklessly, Shiraishi recognizes that stronger Reiatsu does not necessarily mean he can sustain combat longer 105.
• Physical deprivation weakens it. Two days and nights without food or water reduce Shiraishi’s Reiatsu and cause his inner world’s sky and mountains to crack 156.
• Captain-level is a recognizable benchmark. Ukitake identifies Shiraishi’s brief release as captain-level; Hitsugaya reaches the same benchmark when awakening Daiguren Hyōrinmaru 8 256.
• Reiatsu alone does not determine victory. Ichigo judges his Reiatsu comparable to Royd’s, yet Royd’s copied techniques leave him struggling to use that strength effectively 481.
• Captains have different specialties. Nemu recommends a captain specializing in Reiatsu for a resistance test, noting that Mayuri’s principal strength lies elsewhere 101.

Distinctive Signatures

• Individuals can be recognized by their Reiatsu. Shiraishi locates the General Infirmary through Isane’s signature, while Hakuhō recognizes her father’s release from the infirmary 78 649.
• Different spiritual natures are distinguishable. Unohana identifies Shiraishi’s transformed Reiatsu as Hollow-like rather than Shinigami-like. Ordinary Bankai may alter a Shinigami’s Reiatsu, but should not change it into that of a Hollow 224.
• Shiraishi can cross that distinction. Crimson Moon produces Hollow Reiatsu, whereas his Nightbringer Dream Dragon transformation changes his signature back to that of a Shinigami 267 316.
• A signature can establish authority. Harribel releases her Reiatsu to identify herself to retreating Arrancar; its nature and strength mark her as an Espada rather than serving primarily as intimidation 528.
• Emotions can affect its expression. Rukia’s Reiatsu reveals hesitation during training, Ichigo’s anger produces unexpectedly overwhelming output, and Shiraishi’s Reiatsu becomes chilling when Aizen threatens Hakuhō 470 481 649.

Detection and Tracking

Spiritual Senses and Pesquisa

Reiatsu can be sensed directly or searched for through techniques such as Pesquisa 8 106.

• Shiraishi expands his spiritual senses to a three-kilometer radius while investigating an unseen presence 8.
• Nelliel uses Pesquisa to search a battlefield for residual Reiatsu and follows a faint Shinigami-like trail toward a Garganta 106.
• Grimmjow uses Pesquisa to locate the strongest nearby signature before attacking Unohana 506.
• Weakening Reiatsu can warn of serious injury: Nelliel rushes toward Pesche after sensing his pressure decline 565.
• Detection has range limits. At a great distance, even Shiraishi cannot determine whether powerful combatants have stopped fighting or killed one another 622.

Residual Reiatsu

Traces can remain on people or at battle sites, making Reiatsu useful in investigations 106 133.

• At Shin’ichirō Shihoin’s murder scene, Shiraishi detects an extremely faint trace on the victim’s neck only after approaching within three steps 133.
• Soi Fon gives him three days to master Bakudō No. 58: Kakushitsuijaku before the killer’s residual Reiatsu dissipates 133.
• Nelliel considers a defeated fighter’s missing trace explainable if the victor’s Reiatsu completely crushed it 106.

Concealment and Misleading Detection

• Shiraishi normally emits no detectable pressure. This allows him to approach Unohana unnoticed and favors his preferred tactics of ambush and escape 15 185.
• His concealment defeats multiple tracking methods. Soi Fon fails to locate him with Kakushitsuijaku, and Masaki cannot find his Reiraku among a crowd 2 304.
• Even Aizen cannot sense him reliably. Aizen explicitly acknowledges this limitation before their confrontation in the Hall of the Divine Court 516.
• He can reveal his pressure deliberately. During his battle with Zaraki, Shiraishi stops concealing it, reassuring Kūkaku that he remains alive 185.
• Spiritual perception can be deceived. Shunsui’s Kageokuri creates an afterimage that becomes especially convincing to an opponent relying heavily on spiritual senses 623.
• Exceptional perception can expose otherwise hidden danger. Shiraishi’s awareness within three steps warns him of Aizen’s attack despite Kyōka Suigetsu affecting him 525.

Pressure and Suppression

Released Reiatsu can frighten, incapacitate, or compel submission without a direct strike 452 494.

• Shabotas’s pressure halts a battle and causes lesser Hollows to prostrate themselves before him 452.
• Heavy Reiatsu spreading through the Dark Forest leaves civilians unconscious and others panicking 494.
• Shiraishi and Aizen’s clash overwhelms nearby signatures and fills Orihime with uncontrollable fear 523.
• Shiraishi suppresses both Quincy and Arrancar forces before asking Yhwach to end their battle 528.

Reinforcement and Barriers

Reiatsu can strengthen limbs, weapons, and protective surfaces 185 481 649.

• Zaraki coats his hand in Reiatsu to seize Shiraishi’s slash, although doing so still draws blood 185.
• Cang Du gathers Reiatsu into his arm for close combat and raises his output to strengthen Blade Storm’s layered defenses 481.
• Aizen forms a Reiatsu shield that deflects Crimson Lotus Hellfire 649.
• A sufficiently large disparity can render an attack ineffective. Tatsuki injures her own arm striking Shabotas because his unconsciously gathered Reiatsu exceeds her attack’s strength 452.

Concentrated and Shaped Attacks

• Cero: Hollowfied Shiraishi gathers Reiatsu into a black-and-red sphere and also uses it as a gauntlet around his fist 225.
• Reiatsu blades: Kaoru Tendō concentrates pressure around her lower legs to form pale spiritual blades for Heavenly Style Soft Breaking Slash 171.
• Projectile conversion: Findorr converts Reiatsu into a highly penetrating stream of pressurized water 108.
• Weapon amplification: Nelliel pours Reiatsu into her spear, enlarging it beyond a hundred meters before releasing waves of pink light 565.
• Redirection: Aizen’s advanced Hakuda technique, Shō, concentrates vibrating Reiatsu in one finger to divert an incoming blade’s force 277.

Resistance to Special Abilities

Reiatsu can counter some supernatural effects, but the documented results depend on the technique and the strength involved 231 336 524.

• Suzumebachi: Reiatsu on Aizen’s level can resist Death in Two Steps 336.
• Time Stop: Zaraki’s surging Reiatsu lets him move briefly within Oniyasha’s stopped time and cut his forehead 231.
• Aging: Unohana determines that stronger Reiatsu slows Baraggan’s aging effect. She coats successive layers of her blood blade so that fresh layers replace those being destroyed 524.

Technology and Material Uses

• Mobile housing: Urahara’s Spiritual Power-driven house stores Reiatsu as fuel for its movement 447.
• Shihakushō: Senjumaru Shutara’s clothing draws on the wearer’s Reiatsu to remain formed; exhausting that Reiatsu is the exception to its protection against being left naked 640.
• Reiatsu controller: Yhwach reports that Urahara’s controller is close to failing after the war strengthens him 528.
• Interaction with Reishi: A forceful release can disturb surrounding spiritual particles. Kūkaku’s punch sends Reishi into turbulent currents detectable by Shiraishi 8.
