History

Founding and Rivalry

The Holy Maiden Palace was founded where its ancestor discovered the Mother-Child River, whose water allowed women to bear daughters without men. This resource sustained the palace’s female lineage and shaped its succession practices 88 158.

For hundreds of thousands of years, the palace and the Heavenly Net Hall remained competing powers. Both possessed Pseudo-Immortal-level protective formations, preventing either from easily destroying the other. The palace had also produced true Immortals in the past 99 111.

The death of former palace master Lian Qingyue disrupted that balance. Reports of mourning and a sealed mountain gate initially left the Heavenly Net Hall uncertain whether she had truly died. Lian Ruyue publicly denied the rumors, but later acknowledged that the palace had lost the expert needed to counter its rival’s strongest cultivator 72 79 103.

Immortal Manor Secret Realm

Lian Ruyue entered the Immortal Manor Secret Realm seeking the Immaculate Exalted Immortal’s inheritance, hoping it would force the Heavenly Net Hall to submit. Despite their rivalry, she and Mo Ketian cooperated with Su Ting to destroy the frost dragon guarding the Immortal Hall, then turned their attacks against him 79 92.

A sudden cultivation backlash forced Lian Ruyue to abandon the contest. Su Chen subsequently saved her from the life-threatening affliction, while Mo Ketian obtained the inheritance 95 100 103.

The palace’s search for Su Chen then led to nearly thirty thousand men being captured on the basis of partial resemblances to his portrait. Fearing retaliation from their sects while the Heavenly Net Hall prepared to attack, Lian Ruyue ordered every captive released. Unlike the palace’s usual captives, these men had not been castrated 103.

Fall of Holy Maiden City

After Mo Ketian reached Pseudo-Immortal, the Heavenly Net Hall advanced with nearly a million soldiers and two Pseudo-Immortal experts. Elder Yuehua had already escorted part of the younger generation into hiding, while Elder Jingshui and the remaining senior cultivators refused evacuation 108.

Mo Ketian destroyed the palace’s protective formation using a fragment of the Immaculate Immortal Sword. Lian Ruyue consumed Lian Qingyue’s Holy Heart to gain temporary Pseudo-Immortal power, but was captured once that power expired. The defenders continued resisting rather than accept enslavement 112 114.

Hundreds of thousands of palace members then invoked Burn Blood to Exhaustion, sacrificing themselves to enable Lian Ruyue and Lianxi to escape. The destruction left the mother and daughter injured, hunted, and unable to confront the Heavenly Net Hall alone 115 116.

Survivors and Aftermath

Lian Ruyue and Lianxi sought the Su Imperial Clan’s help in avenging their people. Su Chen initially refused to intervene in the Azure Yang Realm’s conflicts, although he stated that his clan could destroy the Heavenly Net Hall 121.

After attaining Pseudo-Immortal with Su Chen’s help, Lian Ruyue confronted Mo Ketian during his attack on the Su Imperial Clan. She rejected his attempt to erase the palace’s blood debt by disbanding his organization. Su Chen later destroyed the Heavenly Net Hall’s headquarters 128 131 136 145.

More than thirty palace survivors eventually settled on a spiritual peak provided by the Su Imperial Clan. Lianxi explicitly declared that the Holy Maiden Palace was gone and its former titles no longer applied. Survivors could stay or leave freely, but those who remained had to follow their hosts’ rules. Lian Ruyue later became an Immortal after Su Chen resolved her recurring Yin Soul affliction 158 160.

Holy Maiden / designated successor Lianxi Lian Ruyue’s daughter and sole successor candidate; a Great Perfection Emperor Realm expert 86.

Holy slaves Castrated male servants Occupied the palace’s lowest social position; ten Quasi-Emperor men carried Lian Ruyue’s palanquin 77 100.
  • Emperor Realm strength: More than seventy experts remained before the final invasion, though the Heavenly Net Hall possessed the stronger lineup 108 113.
  • Elder Jingshui: A Great Perfection Peak Emperor Realm expert who lost her left arm during the defense of Holy Maiden City 114.
  • Evacuated group: The remnants later located by Heavenly Net Hall search parties were guarded by a Great Perfection Emperor Realm expert 125.

Rules and Customs

  • Female membership: The palace’s cultivator community consisted of women. Men were present as enslaved servants rather than equal members 77 100.
  • Castration and captivity: Men taken into the palace were ordinarily castrated and made holy slaves. The release of the nearly thirty thousand search captives was its first voluntary mass release of prisoners 77 103.
  • Sexual prohibitions: Palace rules forbade intercourse with men. Members relied on temporary methods to suppress their cultivation technique’s Yin Soul side effect 124.
  • Lineage obligations: Producing and raising the next generation was treated as a responsibility of the ruling lineage. Lian Ruyue expected Lianxi to bear a child through the Mother-Child River 88.
  • Hostility toward men: Lian Ruyue killed male spectators for staring at her, while another palace cultivator seized the Mad Lion Sect’s treasure and maimed two members. Such conduct made the faction widely feared 77 83.
  • Treatment of women: The palace was comparatively tolerant of female cultivators. Its hostility did not extend to eliminating every male cultivator within its territory 137.
  • Abandoned rules: After learning the truth about their cultivation technique, Lian Ruyue and Lianxi rejected the ancestral restrictions and the belief that women were inherently superior to men. Survivors were subsequently permitted to interact with men freely 157 158.

Cultivation and Secret Arts

Inherited Cultivation Technique

The palace’s inherited technique was incomplete and generated the Supreme Mysterious Yin Soul, a recurring affliction that could corrode spiritual power and cause sudden death 123 124 160.

  • Practitioners normally entered seclusion to suppress an outbreak, during which they became exceptionally vulnerable 102.
  • Injury could trigger an attack earlier than expected, as happened to Lian Ruyue in the secret realm 95 102.
  • The palace’s traditional methods delayed or suppressed the affliction rather than permanently resolving it 124.
  • Lian Ruyue suggested that changing cultivation techniques might remove the drawback; this was presented as a possibility, not a confirmed cure for all survivors 158.

Holy Heart

A Holy Heart is an energy source created when an elder of the holy maiden lineage forcibly strips out her cultivation before death 112.

  • Lian Qingyue endured the process to leave the palace a final defensive measure 112.
  • Consuming her Holy Heart temporarily raised Lian Ruyue from Half-Immortal to Pseudo-Immortal power 112.
  • Its energy drained even without combat. Exhaustion returned Lian Ruyue to her original realm 112 114.

Burn Blood to Exhaustion

Burn Blood to Exhaustion is the forbidden technique used in the palace’s final stand 115.

  • Hundreds of thousands of defenders dissolved into golden light, sacrificing themselves to secure Lian Ruyue and Lianxi’s escape 115 116.
  • Mo Ketian and Mystic Bone High Person attempted to seal the surrounding space but failed to prevent the escape 115.

Territory and Resources

Holy Maiden City and Main Palace

  • Territory: The palace ruled the Azure Yang Realm’s Eastern and Northern Regions, with its final defense concentrated in Holy Maiden City 109 116.
  • Main hall: An ice-crystal jade palace stood on a cloud-wreathed main peak, built with glazed bricks and tiles and flanked by two translucent goddess statues, each a thousand zhang tall 102.

Mother-Child River

  • Its water allowed women to conceive without men; the children born through it were all girls 88 158.
  • Each woman could conceive through the river only once 88.
  • Its discovery determined the palace’s founding location and provided a means of continuing its lineage 88.

Fleeting Life Mysterious Maiden World-Suppressing Barrier

The palace’s principal defense was a Pseudo-Immortal-level formation capable of both attack and defense 111.

  • Manifested the Fleeting Life Mysterious Maiden and generated Cross Star Shields 111.
  • Drew on the Mysterious Maiden Army and other palace members as reserve power 110 111.
  • Lian Ruyue could produce five shields at once; the former palace master could have produced at least twenty 111.
  • Withstood the two enemy Pseudo-Immortals’ initial combined strike, but was destroyed by the Immaculate Immortal Sword fragment in no more than a dozen breaths 111 112.

Notable Equipment

  • Nine Palaces Cicada Sword — Lian Ruyue’s top-tier Emperor Weapon. Its nine cicada-wing patterns activated in succession during her final defense 92 113.
  • Sacred Heart White Silk — Lianxi’s Emperor Weapon; used strangling attacks offensively and churning movements defensively 86.
  • White jade phoenix palanquin — Lian Ruyue’s ceremonial transport, carried by ten Quasi-Emperor holy slaves 77.

Relationships

  • Heavenly Net Hall — Generational enemy and former rival hegemon. Its invasion destroyed the palace, while palace disciples had also been abducted by its members before the war 73 112 115 137.
  • Su Imperial Clan — Initially an outside competitor in the secret realm; later sheltered the palace’s surviving members without restoring their former institutional authority 92 158.
  • Su Chen — Saved Lian Ruyue, exposed the inherited technique’s flaw, and authorized the survivors’ residence with his clan 100 123 158.
  • Mad Lion Sect — A smaller sect whose members were robbed and mutilated by a palace cultivator. Its survivors considered covert retaliation because open resistance threatened their entire sect 83.
