Full Throttle
On National Highway 362, police lights flashed and crisscrossed.
More than a dozen police cars, sirens blaring, roared through the night in an almost unbroken line.
"Attention, the two cars up ahead. We've set up a roadblock in front of you. You can't escape. Don't resist in vain. Stop your vehicles, turn off your engines, and get out for inspection immediately!"
At the very front, a black Phaeton and a red Ferrari were closing in on three hundred kilometers per hour. Calling them swift as wind and lightning would have been no exaggeration.
But clearly, neither driver had taken the warning to heart.
Chu Ning kept her eyes fixed ahead and slammed on the accelerator, sparks flying from all four tires.
Then the Ferrari rammed viciously into the Phaeton's trunk. With a deafening boom, the Ferrari's hood flew off, while the Phaeton's body merely rocked slightly.
The powerful inertia sent Qingxue, who had been gripping the grab handle, lurching forward. Her forehead slammed into the windshield with a clang, raising an enormous bump on her head. Fortunately, the car's glass was tough, or she probably would have flown right out.
In the back seat, Su Bai stared blankly at the torn seat belt in his hand, half his body having flown straight from the back seat into the front.
Who am I? Where am I? What the fuck just happened?
"A modified car?"
Chu Ning's gaze grew even more fervent. She pressed her right hand against Su Bai's face and shoved him back into the rear seat, turned the steering wheel with her left, and hit the accelerator. The speed shot up to three hundred and seventy kilometers per hour. In just two seconds, she drew alongside the Phaeton on its left, then yanked the wheel hard to the right.
Boom!
The Ferrari's right side slammed into the Phaeton's left. The Ferrari's door caved in instantly, and the tremendous force nearly sent the Phaeton flying. It tilted at an angle of almost thirty degrees, both left tires completely off the ground. At over three hundred kilometers per hour, it sent sparks and flashes flying all the way, a spectacular sight.
Fortunately, the Phaeton had been reinforced several times. Otherwise, even Transcendents would have perished along with the car in that collision.
A stunt like this, killing ten thousand enemies at the cost of ten thousand of one's own, was clearly more than Sister Hong, who was driving the Phaeton, could take. After cursing the maniac inwardly, she cranked the steering wheel all the way to the right. The car traced a graceful arc, putting distance between itself and the Ferrari once more, and sped toward the elevated bridge dozens of meters away.
As the view opened up, Sister Hong saw that three rows of jagged tire spikes had been set up at the bridge entrance. More than ten meters behind them stood a line of armed police, loaded guns in hand. Clearly, they had been waiting here at the ready for some time.
"Attention, vehicles ahead. Stop, turn off your engines, and get out for inspection immediately! This is your last chance!"
The amplified voice echoed through the thick darkness.
Sister Hong had no time to worry about much else. Her gaze locked on the road ahead, she continued to accelerate.
She wanted to see whether the maniac behind her dared to follow.
Chu Ning gripped the wheel with both hands, her gaze growing ever more fervent and a sick, manic smile on her face. She floored the accelerator and continued charging toward the Phaeton.
As it turned out, the maniac really did dare.
Qingxue, dazed and battered by the collisions, went deathly pale. Looking at the Phaeton drawing closer and closer and the three rows of tire spikes in front of the bridge, she said tearfully, "C-Chu Ning, sis, I-I-I-I think we'd better get out and surrender!"
Su Bai's head swam. He bent over and dry-heaved twice, his mind clearing a little, only to suddenly discover that he seemed to be flying.
He had not grown wings, of course, but the car he was riding in had.
Bang!!
The Ferrari slammed into the Phaeton's rear again with a tremendous crash.
Then the Ferrari's front end, engine and all, became embedded in the Phaeton's rear door. The two cars clung tightly together like magnets and, seconds later, rolled across the tire spikes one after the other.
"They've got a death wish! Get out of the way, move!"
The fully armed criminal police officers clearly had not expected the two cars to be so crazy. They hurriedly shouted for their teammates to clear out.
After brief contact with the tire spikes, both cars spun completely out of control, skidding and rolling wildly across the bridge and throwing up a great shower of sparks. But that was not the end. Inertia carried the cars rolling for three seconds before they burst over the side of the bridge and plunged straight into the middle of the lake below, sending up a huge splash.
The bone-chilling lake water abruptly cleared Su Bai's head, but as time passed, the intense feeling of suffocation gradually clouded his consciousness again.
At that moment between life and death, half-dreaming and half-awake, Chu Ning reached out to him again.
Two days later.
Third Criminal Police Detachment, Suzhou.
"Name?"
"Su Bai."
"Age?"
"Eighteen."
"Home address?"
"I don't have a home address."
"What?"
"Officer, I mean, I've been an orphan since I was little. I don't have a family, so I don't have a home address either. I lived in an orphanage until I was twelve, then at school after that. The first three years were at Huiying Middle School, and the next three were at Star Sea Middle School."
The young officer questioning him frowned slightly and scrutinized Su Bai.
If he went by first impressions alone, he would have thought Su Bai a gentle, timid, honest kid. But compared with his impression, he preferred to believe the case file right in front of him.
The young officer put down his pen and stared into Su Bai's eyes. "Illegal possession of a firearm, assault, vehicle theft, forcing your way through a checkpoint, deliberate damage to public property... There's plenty more, but I won't list them all for you. Do you know how many years you'll get if these charges are proven?"
Su Bai rested his handcuffed hands on the table and let out a long sigh.
He had possessed a photographic memory since childhood and had read all kinds of books, so he knew quite a bit about the law. With all the charges against him added together, he was looking at more than twenty years at the very least, and less than immediate execution-about a death sentence with a reprieve.
Life was getting more and more promising-promising him a sentence, that was.
Still, Su Bai was not too worried about the current situation.
After all, everything he had done was in the course of carrying out a Grave Keepers mission. To put it more grandly, he had done it for the lasting peace and stability of Suzhou's society and people, and to uphold love and justice.
So Section Seven would definitely get him out.
There was just one thing Su Bai still could not understand.
How had his two pig teammates managed to leave him in the hands of the police???
After falling from the bridge that day, Su Bai had slipped into a deep coma from severe injuries and a lack of oxygen.
When he woke up, he found himself lying in a hospital bed, handcuffed, with two police officers standing guard beside him.
He had only just recovered a little today when he was hauled into the interrogation room.
Sigh, what was all this?
Bang!
The young officer slammed the table. "What are you daydreaming about? Confess and receive leniency; resist and face severity!"
Su Bai came back to his senses and said earnestly, "Officer, I promise I'll cooperate honestly in every way I can, and try to earn lenient treatment as soon as possible!"
"Then start by telling me who your accomplices are."
Creak-
Someone pushed open the interrogation room door. Two policewomen in uniform walked in. They were plainly Chu Ning and Qingxue in disguise.
The young officer frowned when he saw them. "And you are?"
Qingxue took out a document she had prepared in advance and handed it to the young officer, saying with a serious expression:
"We've looked into it. Su Bai, big brother... ahem, I mean, this Su Bai is vicious beyond measure, vicious beyond measure! His actions were extremely brazen and had an extremely bad impact. The city bureau leaders were furious and personally instructed that all of Su Bai's cases be compiled and handed over to the special investigation team. They said he was to be thoroughly investigated and severely punished. We're from the special investigation team. Here's the authorization, take a look."
The young officer carefully read through the document, immediately stood up and saluted, and said solemnly, "Leader!"
The corner of Su Bai's mouth twitched. He pointed at Qingxue and Chu Ning and said to the young officer:
"I'll tell you everything, I confess! Those two are my accomplices. The tall one is Chu Ning. She stepped on the gas and took me flying through the sky, burrowing through the earth, and swimming underwater, and nearly drowned me alive. The short one is Qingxue. Don't be fooled by that innocent face of hers; when she gets violent, she can rip the top of your skull off. Those two are the truly vicious ones. Officer, you have to believe me, you must believe me! Everything I've said is true. If you can arrest them, that would really be ridding the people of a scourge and upholding justice!"
"Crazy talk!"
The young officer gave Su Bai a cold glance and strode out of the interrogation room.
