Personality

Chu Ning is cold-spoken, confrontational, and quick to use force. During the Heavenly River International raid, she smashes the entrance, overwhelms its guards, and threatens a receptionist rather than first checking whether the woman can access the private elevator. Her methods create public disturbances that Section Seven must subsequently contain 19 20 32.

Her recklessness coexists with a strong commitment to her teammates and the Grave Keepers’ duty. She risks her life to block a bullet aimed at Su Bai and willingly confronts a dangerous spider to prevent its offspring from spreading into the city. Even after sustaining severe injuries, she continues fighting to protect her companions 22 37 39.

She is ambitious about joining the Special Operations Squad and openly criticizes Gu Jiuge’s apparent complacency. Nevertheless, she respects his combat record and considers Li Ming even more formidable 32 35. Her treatment of civilians also shows restraint beneath her brutality: while executing Chen Ziyan, she shields Lin Xue’s view with her cap and apologizes afterward 31.

Joining the Grave Keepers

Chu Ning joined the Grave Keepers two years before she took responsibility for protecting Su Bai. Gu Jiuge welcomed her with the burning bone sword that she later lends to him 34.

The Little Match Girl

Chu Ning arrives during the Little Match Girl incident, identifies the sixth-tier calamity, and requests backup after detecting the residue of an even stronger Oracle. She charges the creature with her sword as Su Bai loses consciousness, and later confirms that she killed it 10 12.

At the hospital, she forces Su Bai to disclose that his Oracle is Wrath. She then presents his alternatives: join the Grave Keepers and pursue bloodline advancement as a route to treating his leukemia, or accept medical support and enrollment at the fabricated Jialidun University 12.

The kill does not provide the advancement opportunity she expected. Wrath has burned the Little Match Girl’s Bloodline Mark to ashes, depriving her of a resource that would have given her a strong chance of reaching the fifth tier and receiving a Special Operations assignment 15.

Hunter Guild Operation

Chu Ning helps prepare Su Bai’s wealthy disguise for his first visit to Heavenly River International. After his gambling attempt fails, she and Qingxue accompany him in a direct assault on the casino 18 19 20.

During the raid, she blocks a bullet intended for Su Bai and recognizes the emotional conditions needed to awaken Wrath. She subsequently pursues the apparent Sister Hong in a stolen Ferrari. The target is actually Jiang Long using Chameleon; when he escapes into the river as a fish, Chu Ning and Qingxue abandon the chase to save the unconscious Su Bai 22 23 24 25.

At Fanghua Hotel, Chu Ning confronts the real Sister Hong, Chen Ziyan, codename Red. She kills her and retrieves her jade-token Bloodline Mark while sparing Lin Xue 31.

Protecting and Training Su Bai

After learning that Su Bai faces a billion-dollar assassination bounty, Li Ming assigns Chu Ning to protect him. She brings him to her private villa, lends him the burning bone sword, and trains him intensively over the following three days 33 34 35.

Suzhou University Incident

Chu Ning investigates the apparent spontaneous combustion deaths alongside Su Bai and Qingxue. Once they discover that spiderlings are consuming victims and using Dustless to ignite their bodies, the team heads for the rooftop to stop the mother spider before its offspring can spread 36 37.

The mother proves to be a weakened third-tier Redback Spider, stronger than their initial estimate. It breaks Chu Ning’s lightning restraints and crushes her chest and abdomen. She nevertheless returns to battle, wielding lightning daggers against the spiderlings while Qingxue struggles to protect the group 38 39.

Li Ming arrives and defeats the creature. Chu Ning drags Su Bai and the unconscious Qingxue away from the fight, but her injuries leave her bedridden in hospital afterward 40.

Headquarters Evaluation

Chu Ning receives an overall A for the Hunter Guild operation 32.

The narration describes the result as inflated: headquarters does not deduct points for the public disruption caused by her forced entry, reckless driving, and killings, despite the cost to Section Seven of suppressing the fallout 32.
