Background and History
Previous Incarnation
Ye Lingxi is introduced as the reincarnation of an empress. The Ye Clan later recognizes her as its ancestor, but she rejects the idea that her previous life determines her present identity, insisting that she is simply Su Chen’s younger sister 1 127.
Five thousand years before her present incarnation, her past self encountered a mysterious person inside a coffin. That person promised to make her an Immortal in exchange for a condition. She agreed but postponed receiving the power while she dealt with other affairs, leaving the coffin’s occupant waiting for five thousand years 133.
Life as a Beggar and Meeting Su Chen
At seven years old, Ye Lingxi lives as a beggar, survives on discarded spoiled food, and does not know where her parents are. After she accidentally runs into Su Chen, he buys her candied hawthorn and gives her silver 1 3.
A young man subsequently accuses her of stealing that silver and assaults her while the surrounding crowd blames her. Su Chen intervenes, kills her attacker, and takes her away. He arranges a bath, new clothes, and her first filling meal, then invites her to remain with him and call him “big brother” 2 3.
Five years later, she accompanies him to Star Holy Land. When Jiang Hao and his followers attempt to abduct her, Su Chen rescues her again 3 6.
Cultivation and the Path of Invincibility
Ye Lingxi initially wants to cultivate because she thinks flying looks exciting. Under Su Chen’s instruction, her emperor-grade talent allows her to advance rapidly. He repeatedly cautions her that excessive advancement can undermine her foundation 8 9.
Her training becomes more serious after a secret-realm expedition ends in disaster. Despite receiving the Fire Phoenix’s assistance, she is fatally injured by Zhou Qian while confronting Old Daoist Han. Her life force disappears as Su Chen arrives; by the following chapter, she is recovering and resolves to stop relying on his protection 44 47 48.
Her declaration that she will surpass Su Chen awakens Invincible Sword Intent. She later defeats Shen Lang at the Heavenly Pride Gathering, although the decisive exchange leaves her unconscious and requires Su Chen to heal her 49 51 52.
Ten-Thousand-Layer Tower and Ye Clan Betrayal
Ye Lingxi completes the Ten-Thousand-Layer Tower, defeating its final Third-Layer Quasi-Emperor opponent while still at the peak of the Saint King Realm. The Great Dao Tree Seed’s continuous supply of Immortal Qi proves essential to her victory. She receives the Immortal Spirit Armor and subsequently advances to the peak of the Quasi-Emperor Realm 88 89.
The Ye Clan persuades her to visit by offering an inheritance accessible only to its ancestor. After her blood opens the secret realm, patriarch Ye Li accuses her of impersonation and enters alone, leaving the clan’s Great Emperors to restrain or kill her. Ye Lingxi and Hu Xiaotian resist nineteen high-level Great Emperors, but are eventually overwhelmed; she sets her body ablaze to unleash another attack 127 128 129 130.
She later encounters the coffin connected to her previous life and accepts its occupant’s power, becoming a False Immortal. Memories of the old bargain appear in her mind, though she does not initially know what condition her former self accepted 133 137.
Immortal Gate and Upper Immortal Realm
After killing a Wu Household young master who harasses her, Ye Lingxi fights his True Immortal protector. Reflecting on Luo City’s destruction, she condemns a world in which the strong can casually wipe out the weak, then seeks a deserted location for her next breakthrough 215 216.
At the Immortal Gate, she attacks the Immortal Stairway and challenges an Upper Immortal Realm expert despite being only a First-Stage True Immortal. Another woman intervenes and leaves her near death. Su Chen offers to protect her if she abandons the Path of Invincibility; instead, her sword intent transforms and her cultivation rises to the Fourth Stage Peak 230 231 232 233.
After learning that the gate’s exit is controlled by cultivators who enslave arrivals for mining, she enters the Upper Immortal Realm through a safe rift opened by Su Chen 239.
Later, she severely wounds Mo Qianqiu despite their cultivation disparity. His Immortal Saint protectors force her and Hu Xiaotian to flee. Hu Xiaotian hides her in a cave and draws away their pursuers, after which Su Chen arrives and promises to help her retaliate 399 400 401.
Demon Domain and Independent Training
While traveling through the Demon Domain with Su Chen and Yan Qingwu, Ye Lingxi helps Xiao Yue’er seek an alternative to marrying Feng Xuan in exchange for her sister’s treatment. She persuades Su Chen and Yan Qingwu to accompany Xiao Yue’er to the City Lord’s Manor 428 463.
Following Su Chen eventually shakes her Dao heart: his overwhelming strength makes her question her own progress. She chooses to remain in the dangerous Demon Domain to temper herself rather than continue relying on him. Su Chen respects her decision, and Hu Xiaotian promises to train alongside her 512 516.
After a later reunion at the Qingqiu Fox Clan, she again chooses independent training. She leaves instructions that Hu Xiaotian should not look for her 722.
Heavenly Dao Successor and Canglan Star’s Defense
Wanqing chooses Ye Lingxi as a potential successor because of her character and talent. With her own lifespan nearing its end, Wanqing hopes to prepare someone to lead Canglan Star against invaders once its protection fails. Ye Lingxi voluntarily accepts the responsibility and trains under her for several years 723 751 752.
Ye Lingxi later refuses to refine the High-grade Heart of the Earthfall, preferring to reach the pinnacle through her own cultivation. She instead asks Su Chen to resurrect Wanqing so that Wanqing can use it to protect Canglan Star while she gains experience in the God Realm 789.
Recognized as the Heavenly Dao during the Genius Battle, Ye Lingxi oversees the competition’s transition into its finals. When God Realm forces invade, she draws upon Canglan Star’s origin power to fight the Crimson Flame Baleful God. Xue Ya and Shen Li rescue her from a combined attack by nine experts; after recovering, she rejoins the battle 795 798 810 813 817.
Following the battle, she withdraws into grief. She eventually tells Wanqing that she is leaving for the God Realm to become stronger and avenge Su Chen, entrusting her with the place that holds their shared memories 831.
Appearance
- Childhood: Initially has a dirty face, unkempt hair, and bright, pearl-like eyes. Malnutrition leaves her thin; after being cleaned up, she is described with a delicate face, a small cherry-like mouth, and large, sparkling eyes 1 3.
- Delayed growth: Her appearance remains unchanged during her first five years with Su Chen. He suspects that her reincarnation is responsible 3.
- Adult transformation: During her Quasi-Emperor breakthrough, she takes on the appearance of a woman in her twenties, with long hair, a golden dress, and a noble bearing 89.
- Later attire: In Luo City, she wears a pale-pink dress beneath a white gauze robe 214.
- Later demeanor: At the peak of the Immortal Sovereign Realm, she is described as cold and aloof, with a strikingly beautiful appearance 751.
Personality
Ye Lingxi begins as a frightened, vulnerable child who clings to Su Chen for safety. In his care, she becomes affectionate, playful, and openly delighted by food, travel, and cultivation. She is also respectful toward the family that accepts her, bowing to Su Yanche before receiving his sword 2 3 8 27 44.
Her defining ambition is to become strong enough to protect Su Chen and eventually surpass him. Defeats and near-death experiences repeatedly strengthen that resolve rather than extinguish it. She comes to recognize that remaining beside someone overwhelmingly powerful can weaken her independence, and deliberately seeks hardship away from him 48 49 233 512 516.
She values loyalty and responsibility beyond her personal ambitions. She refuses to abandon Hu Xiaotian when they are threatened and honors her promise to Wanqing even when Wanqing offers to release her from it. Her refusal of the Heart of the Earthfall also marks her preference for earned strength over reliance on external power 716 752 789.
