Year 20 of Konoha, at the end of the First Shinobi World War.

Second Hokage Tobirama Senju is gravely wounded and near death, while his Hokage Guard Platoon is surrounded on all sides.

"Who will stay behind to cover our retreat?" Tobirama asks, his voice heavy with resolve.

As Hiruzen Sarutobi hesitates and Shimura Danzō trembles from head to toe, a civilian-born prodigy, Shu Shiraishi, draws his sword and steps forward. "Lord Hokage, leave the rear guard to me-and I'll take the Third Hokage's seat, too!"

There is no tragic sacrifice, only slaughter taken to its absolute limit. Shu strides into Konoha carrying the heads of Kinkaku and Ginkaku, sending shock waves throughout the Shinobi World.

With a hearty laugh, Tobirama Senju entrusts the village to him, and Shu decisively takes office as the Third Hokage.

Hiruzen breaks down and shouts, "Shu, your brutality will destroy Konoha's peace!"

"Shut up. I call the shots in Konoha now," Shu says, looking down at him coldly.

From that moment on, Konoha undergoes a radical transformation. At home, all dissent is crushed with an iron fist, and the shinobi clans become infrastructure-building maniacs.

Beyond its borders, Konoha unleashes an industrial revolution, forging a Chakra-powered technological empire and overwhelming the other four great shinobi villages with technology on an entirely different level.
