|---|---|---|
| One-finger manifestation | 90 | Manifests after Yuji swallows a finger and immediately destroys the attacking cursed spirit. Yuji proves capable of suppressing him. |
| Two fingers’ worth of strength | 95 | Explicitly confirmed during the detention-center battle. Uses a fully chanted Dismantle but remains overwhelmingly weaker than Amaha. |

Appearance
Sukuna’s appearance changes with his vessel and the extent of his Incarnation 90 127 129.
- Within Yuji: Black markings spread across Yuji’s body, and a second pair of eyes opens beneath his ordinary eyes 90.
- Partial manifestation: Can form a speaking mouth on the back of Yuji’s hand without taking full control 93.
- Within Gojo: His signature black markings cover Gojo’s face; his cursed energy is described as an immense, evil, blood-red ocean 127.
- Restored true form: Four arms, four eyes, and two large mouths. This incarnation retains Gojo’s azure Six Eyes 129.
- Historical description: Remembered as having been born with two faces and four arms 9.
Personality
Sukuna is proud, cruel, and intolerant of disrespect. He toys with an outmatched special-grade cursed spirit, repeatedly demanding that it try harder, and later cuts Kenjaku’s face as punishment for his conduct. Even when Amaha’s pressure threatens to overwhelm him, Sukuna refuses to bow or lose his footing 94 95 126.
A sufficiently strong opponent turns his hostility into exhilaration. Recognizing Amaha as his natural enemy makes him intensely curious rather than cautious; he asks for Amaha’s name and becomes increasingly excited by their rivalry. During their final battle, he fiercely contests Amaha’s claim to kingship 90 91 129.
His enthusiasm for battle outweighs his apparent attachment to others. Although he recognizes Uraume with pleasure, Uraume’s death does not interrupt his excitement over Amaha’s deception. He is also observant enough to reconstruct the illusion that fooled Kenjaku and pragmatic enough to use feints when direct domain clashes fail to secure an advantage 126 130.
Abilities & Skills
Incarnation and Vessel Control
Sukuna preserves himself through cursed objects and manifests by inhabiting a compatible vessel 9 90.
- Suppression limitation: Yuji can reclaim his body and suppress Sukuna even after Sukuna has manifested 90.
- Awareness while suppressed: Continues observing events around Yuji, learning Amaha’s name and noticing clues to his illusion 94 126.
- Forced takeover: A sudden intake of twelve fingers allows Kenjaku to bring Sukuna out through Yuji 126.
- Incarnation restart: Can restart Incarnation once as a healing measure, restoring his original body after catastrophic injury 129.
- True-form advantage: Four arms and two mouths let him perform multiple hand seals and chants simultaneously 129 130.
Dismantle
Dismantle produces slashing attacks that Sukuna directs with hand movements. He can unleash individual crescents or fill an area with a grid of cuts 95 129.
- Chanted enhancement: Strengthens the attack with “Dragon scales,” “Recoil,” and “Paired Meteors” 95.
- World-cutting slash: After gaining inspiration from Amaha, expands the attack into a slash that apparently bisects him. Amaha subsequently appears unharmed behind Sukuna 129.
- Combined assault: Fires world-cutting Dismantle alongside Hollow Purple during his final domain feint 130.
- Demonstrated counters: Amaha disperses the two-finger version with Cursed Speech and later survives a point-blank ordinary Dismantle while counterattacking 95 127.
Domain Expansion: Malevolent Shrine
Malevolent Shrine is an open-type domain: rather than enclosing its target within a closed barrier, it manifests the innate domain directly into the surrounding space 55.
- Produces a barrage of invisible slashes during its clash with Amaha’s domain 128.
- Sukuna and Amaha expand their domains simultaneously four times over their two-hour battle 130.
- Uses the fourth clash as a smokescreen, concealing preparations for simultaneous Hollow Purple and Dismantle 130.
- Its shrine is destroyed by Amaha’s Hollow Purple during an earlier clash 128.
Gojo’s Techniques and Six Eyes
Incarnating in Gojo gives Sukuna access to his cursed technique. Gojo actively cooperates rather than resisting, making its use easier 127.
- Limitless: Uses Gojo’s defensive technique, though Gojo advises disabling it when Amaha’s counter makes it waste cursed energy 127.
- Blue and Red: Uses attraction and repulsion in combat; later releases indiscriminate Blue to defend against Amaha’s speed 127 129.
- Hollow Purple: Performs the full chant for a stated 200% attack. Amaha cuts through both the attack and Sukuna with Imperial Zenith-Horizon 129.
- Six Eyes: Supplements Sukuna’s combat experience with Gojo’s enhanced perception; remains present after the restoration of Sukuna’s true form 127 129.
- Teleportation: Repeatedly changes position instantaneously during the battle 127 129.
Reverse Cursed Technique
Sukuna regenerates severe injuries and repairs cursed technique burnout with Reverse Cursed Technique 129 130.
- He and Gojo jointly concentrate on healing after Amaha cuts their body in half 129.
- Their two uses of Reverse Cursed Technique accelerate burnout recovery enough to support repeated domain clashes 130.
- Recovery does not prevent exhaustion: by the final exchange, Sukuna’s cursed energy and physical strength reach their limits, and he nearly collapses 130.
Flame Attack: “Open”
Sukuna gathers flames around his hands, assumes an archer’s stance, and releases an explosive attack with the command “Open” 128.
- Destroys the skyscraper beneath Amaha and spreads a vast conflagration through the battlefield 128.
Close Combat and Tactical Analysis
- Uses rapid claw strikes, kicks, defensive guards, and environmental distractions in close combat 95 128.
- Identifies Amaha’s illusion and explains how it passed to Kenjaku through an intermediary 126.
- Communicates directly with Gojo through their connected souls during combat 127.
- Uses successive feints to draw Amaha into a prepared, simultaneous two-technique attack 130.
Cursed Objects
- Twenty fingers: Before death, Sukuna divided his soul into twenty pieces stored in his fingers, leaving a means of future revival 9.
- Special-grade objects: Each finger can elevate an ordinary cursed spirit to special grade 9.
- Indestructibility: Gojo demonstrates that conventional destruction is ineffective and explains that the growing curse cannot be sealed either 91.
- Attraction of curses: The fingers continue drawing cursed spirits after a thousand years, an exceptional property even among special-grade cursed objects 115.
- Vessel danger: Megumi describes a finger as deadly poison; Yuji’s ability to survive ingestion and suppress Sukuna makes him an unusually valuable vessel 90 91.
- Resurrection campaign: Kenjaku binds several incarnated allies to collecting the fingers until Sukuna’s revival releases them from their vows 105 111.
History
Ancient Life and Preservation
Sukuna was remembered as the strongest sorcerer of a thousand years ago and the King of Curses. Before dying, he separated his soul into twenty fingers, which scattered over the following millennium. His reputation later became the focus of Hajime Kashimo’s desire to face the strongest opponent 9 86.
Awakening in Yuji
Yuji swallowed a finger while attempting to save Megumi and others at Sendai Third High School. Sukuna manifested and destroyed the attacking curse, only for Yuji to reclaim control. When Amaha asked Yuji to release him again, Sukuna encountered an opponent whose cursed energy overwhelmed his own and whose imitation of Dismantle led him to recognize a “natural enemy” 89 90.
At Eishu Juvenile Detention Center, Sukuna took over to fight a special-grade cursed spirit. Amaha interrupted his attempted Domain Expansion and thoroughly outmatched him in close combat. Sukuna nevertheless recovered another finger from Daiten and renewed the challenge; the ensuing battle destroyed the detention center, while Amaha’s intervention prevented Sukuna from tearing out Yuji’s heart 94 95 96.
Kenjaku’s Resurrection Scheme
Kenjaku’s faction gathered fingers to revive Sukuna as its answer to Amaha. Amaha knowingly allowed the scheme to progress, seeking a satisfying opponent, while Gojo proposed becoming Sukuna’s vessel so that their combined power could challenge him without Gojo’s reluctance to kill a friend 105 113 118.
During the Shibuya Incident, Kenjaku captured Yuji and forced twelve fingers into him. He then brought Sukuna to the Zenin Clan, expecting to transfer him into Megumi and prepare him through the Bath. Sukuna exposed the flaw: Amaha’s illusion had substituted Dhruv Lakdawalla for Megumi. Amaha offered him either renewed suppression inside Yuji or incarnation in Gojo for a potentially fatal battle 126.
Battle Against Igarashi Amaha
Sukuna incarnated in Gojo and fought Amaha while jujutsu sorcerers watched through Mei Mei’s Black Bird Manipulation. Gojo supplied advice through their shared connection, while Sukuna combined his own attacks with Gojo’s techniques 127 128.
After Amaha bisected him, Sukuna restarted Incarnation and restored his true form. He retaliated with world-cutting Dismantle, apparently splitting Amaha in half, but Amaha reappeared behind him 129.
Their fourth domain clash concealed Sukuna’s simultaneous Hollow Purple and Dismantle. Amaha placed Mahoraga in the attacks’ path before answering with Imperial Ultimate-Decree of Primordial Convergence. The final collision left both combatants wounded and depleted. Amaha then restored himself beneath a golden moon and took his place on a black-dragon throne above Sukuna. The epilogue later refers to Sukuna as gone, without depicting the precise circumstances of his end 130 131.
Relationships
- Igarashi Amaha — Natural enemy and coveted opponent. Their rivalry centers on overwhelming strength and competing claims to kingship 90 126 129.
- Yuji Itadori — Initial vessel and suppressor. Sukuna resents Yuji’s control but remains aware of events while confined within him 90 93 94.
- Satoru Gojo — Later vessel and willing combat partner. Their connected souls allow tactical communication and coordinated healing 127 129 130.
- Kenjaku — Resurrection collaborator, not a respected superior. Sukuna punishes his disrespect and recognizes the illusion that defeats his vessel-transfer plan 126.
- Uraume — Longstanding servant who prepares the Bath and welcomes his return. Sukuna recognizes Uraume warmly but shows no apparent distress when Amaha kills them 126.
- Megumi Fushiguro — Intended vessel in Kenjaku’s plan because of the Ten Shadows Technique. The attempted transfer fails because the supposed Megumi is Dhruv under an illusion 119 126.
- Hajime Kashimo — Ancient challenger who accepted reincarnation in pursuit of a fight with Sukuna, but ultimately found his desired battle against Amaha instead 84 86.
