Background / History

Reincarnation and abandonment

Amaha’s biological parents were Igarashi Akemi, former head of the Igarashi Family, and Zhao Feng of Hua Capital’s Zhao Clan. Their relationship defied their clans’ expectations. While fleeing pursuers, Akemi forced childbirth near Kitano Village, and the couple left their newborn behind as a diversion. They gave him the Igarashi surname in the hope that shared blood might persuade the clan to spare him 117.

The original infant died after being abandoned. His death allowed He Liangchuan to inhabit the body; Amaha later distinguishes his present existence from the child his parents left behind 117.

The village chief entrusted him to Ishii Ichiro and Ishii Ogawa, hoping eventually to profit from locating his noble family. Amaha grew up aware of his foster parents’ ulterior motives, maintaining an obedient exterior while privately despising their greed 1.

Kitano Village imprisonment

On July 2, 2000, ten-year-old Amaha exposed his ability to see cursed spirits. His foster parents branded him an “inauspicious one,” prompting the villagers to pursue him. Using jujitsu remembered from his previous life and a cutting blade, he fought back and nearly escaped by motorcycle, but was ultimately imprisoned 2 3.

In the basement, fellow prisoner Aoki Akawa explained cursed energy, sorcerers, and cursed techniques. Aoki treated his injuries and supplied weakened curses that helped him develop his capture-based ability. Amaha deliberately remained involved in the village’s trafficking operation to gather enough strength to escape, stop the chief, and avenge the imprisoned women 3 4 6.

Sato subjected him to repeated torture using cursed tools, assisted by her bodyguard Yokoyama. After a nearly fatal blow, Amaha confronted a shadow resembling his former self inside his inner world. He defeated it in a board game whose outcome determined control of his body 5 6 11 12 13.

Aoki subsequently died after urging Amaha to survive and carry him forward. Amaha broke out while carrying Aoki’s body, killed villagers who confronted him, fought Yokoyama, and later tracked down the fleeing village chief 14 15 17 20.

Overseas activity and Jujutsu High

Amaha’s admission dossier records his departure from Narita Airport for Hua Capital under a false identity on August 17, 2000. By sixteen, he had entered Tokyo Jujutsu High through self-recommendation and acquired an international reputation 24 27.

His killings initially alarmed his classmates. Amaha explained that his targets included human traffickers, drug dealers, and reporters working for them, rather than indiscriminately chosen civilians. This disclosure helped repair his relationship with Gojo, Geto, and Shoko 34.

He later became a teacher, the head of the Aoki Financial Group, and nominal leader of the Director’s Church. Yaga handled much of the church’s practical work, earning Amaha’s genuine respect 59 87 111.

Appearance

  • Childhood: Thin, with long, untidy black hair, large brown eyes, and a small, straight nose 1.
  • Build: Already over 1.5 meters tall at ten, with a well-proportioned physique; reaches 1.86 meters by sixteen 20 24.
  • Later appearance: Retains long black hair and develops golden eyes. His muscular build and imperial bearing are repeatedly emphasized 85 123 128.
  • Clothing: Wears a trench coat during later confrontations, often keeping his hands in its pockets 69 123.
  • Crimson Owl: Purple-white flames surround his body and form a wing-feather half-mask over the left side of his face 17.
  • Dragon release: Gains two horns and dragon scales across his chest while retaining his black hair and golden eyes 85.

Personality

Amaha is outwardly languid, irreverent, and intensely protective of his freedom. He frequently sleeps, smokes, jokes through serious situations, and treats powerful institutions with open contempt. He threatens the Jujutsu Higher-Ups rather than accept their interference and explicitly rejects plans that constrain his preferred way of living 36 41 42.

His composure predates his overwhelming strength. As a prisoner, he treats anger as useless unless it helps solve his situation, deliberately provokes Sato to influence her behavior, and continues planning while seriously injured. His victory over his shadow likewise depends on deception and strategic judgment rather than force 3 6 12 13.

He is also capable of extreme cruelty. During his escape, he kills pleading villagers without hesitation. He later mutilates and kills a woman whom he identifies as a curse user, showing little concern for the horror of those watching. Although he claims moral limits concerning innocent people, he does not present himself as a good person 15 33 34.

His appetite for battle becomes a source of loneliness as his strength grows. He prolongs fights for entertainment, asks Kashimo to keep playing with him, and engineers conflict when bored. Kenjaku nevertheless recognizes Gojo and Geto as family-like bonds rather than opponents who can satisfy that emptiness 84 111 115.

Abilities & Skills

Way of Resentment, Free of Worry

His original innate technique uses a xiangqi-like inner board, with Amaha himself represented by the General. Captures unlock extension techniques in a fixed sequence: five Pawns, two Knights, two Cannons, two Chariots, two Elephants, and two Advisors 4 7 32.

Piece Ability Applications and limits
Pawns Enhance the five senses and moderately increase cursed energy, strength, and resistance to blows. Each Pawn primarily improves one sense: sight, hearing, touch, smell, or taste 7.
Knights Time-and-space control associated with positional movement. The extension account gives an initial range of five li for one second, increasing to ten li for two seconds; no cooldown and moderate energy consumption. Geto separately reports a time freeze lasting up to three seconds 27 32.
Cannons Generate powerful cursed-energy artillery. Director concentrates positive and negative energy into a single-target shot; the advanced form attacks an area. No cooldown, but high energy consumption 32.
Chariots Produce two clones, each possessing 90% of his combat ability. Clones follow his commands, share vision, and can exchange positions with him without Knight. They can also replace injuries or fatal damage suffered by the original 32.
Elephants Provide an immense internal cursed-energy reserve. Advancement requires Reverse Cursed Technique and adds a positive-energy core, theoretically enabling continuous energy supply and bodily restoration 32.
Advisors Block incoming attacks with a defensive layer. Unlike Limitless, they stop rather than progressively slow attacks. Sufficient force can break them. The documented base form requires manual activation and considerable energy 32.
  • Early recovery: Consuming a Grade 4 curse is enough to recover from the village chief’s beatings 5.
  • Chariot survival condition: He must transfer damage before his consciousness fades; the technique does not provide unlimited automatic resurrection 32.
  • Chariot recovery: The stated cooldown is one calendar year. Activation consumes substantial stamina, and inadequate protein intake can cause temporary mental confusion 32.
  • Defensive distinction: When blocking Jogo, Hanami, and Mahito, Amaha explicitly states that his protective layer is not Limitless 73.

Way · Grudge

The transformed technique is explicitly revealed during his battle with Kashimo 85.

  • Way — observe and incorporate: Allows him to use every cursed technique he has seen during his lifetime and strengthen it with the might of Way 85.
  • Grudge — alter and bestow: Alters cursed techniques and bestows techniques with additional “heavenly might” 85.
  • Demonstrated enhancement: Grudge · Spear empowers Ten Thousand Frequency Manipulation to strike Kashimo with destructive vibrational force 85.
  • Multiple techniques: Higuruma’s confiscation removes a technique without depriving Amaha of his remaining arsenal 99.

Kenjaku attributes this transformation to his own dissolution of Amaha’s inherited Igarashi technique, which created room for another technique once Amaha’s trained body could bear it. This explanation is presented as Kenjaku’s reconstruction of Amaha’s awakening 116.

Known techniques available to Amaha include:

Technique Documented use or identification
Limitless; Ten Shadows Technique Named while demonstrating his remaining abilities after confiscation 99.
Cursed Spirit Manipulation; Mystery Vortex Displayed among his technique panels 99.
Ten Thousand Frequency Manipulation Displayed in his arsenal and enhanced through Grudge against Kashimo 85 99.
Heaven-Deceiving Ruse Creates the illusion used to test Higuruma, including the apparent civilian murders and police cover-up 97 101.
Longing for Shu in Taiyu; Star Rage Displayed among his technique panels 99.
Boogie Woogie Switches places with Gojo, causing Geto’s attack to hit Gojo instead 112.
Cursed Speech Used during the detention-center incident and identified by Megumi 95.
Judgeman Appears among the techniques shown to Higuruma 99.

Body Shikigami and Transformations

  • Crimson Owl: Grants purple flames. Amaha shapes them into blades, chains, and ranged attacks, using them for close combat and movement 17 30 53 55.
  • Barbarian Lord: Grants ice abilities. He creates an ice hammer, freezes curses, and surrounds a rooftop with lethal ice walls 55 70 73 75.
  • Dragon: A horned, scaled combat release demonstrated against Kashimo and Sukuna. Its displayed attacks include black flames, a black atomic ray, and extremely rapid physical assaults 85 129.

Domain Expansion: Void Knowledge Zen Transformation Contemplation

Amaha first deploys his domain after surviving Anubis’s judgment. Its initial interior is chaotic and unfinished, but it still shatters Anubis’s domain and allows Amaha to summon a throne 52.

  • Domain clashes: Also overwhelms the overtime-born steel curse’s Steel Jungle 64.
  • Official: Indiscriminately attacks living creatures throughout the domain through overlapping coverage, gathering and igniting atoms from the air 71.
  • Precept: Targets living creatures possessing cursed energy. It develops from Director into an adjudication-like attack 71.
  • Repeated expansion: Can expand his domain consecutively, though he does not disclose the precise mechanism to his companions 55.

Healing and Survival

  • Reverse Cursed Technique: Eventually masters bodily healing and can heal others, including Nobara Kugisaki 75 94.
  • Apparent-death survival: Returns after Anubis destroys his heart; later appears behind Sukuna after seemingly being cut in half 52 129.
  • Technique dissolution vulnerability: Aoki’s ability disables his resurrection and time reversal, while Reverse Cursed Technique also stops working. Amaha responds by stabbing his temple with the Inverted Spear as a desperate gamble 75.

Physical Combat and Weapon Skills

  • Previous-life training: Uses remembered jujitsu to fight armed villagers before developing his technique 2.
  • Combat analysis: Quickly investigates Yokoyama’s activation conditions and adapts to his rock attacks 17.
  • Close-quarters strength: Overpowers Gojo during their post-Anubis spar and initially stops Kashimo’s lightning-charged staff with one finger 53 82.
  • Sword combat: Uses conjured flame blades and physical cursed tools, including the Soul Liberation Blade and Inverted Spear 17 84 111.
  • Imperial Zenith-Horizon: Cuts through Sukuna’s fully chanted Hollow Purple and bisects Sukuna 129.

Teaching

  • Balanced training: Advises Toge Inumaki to learn katana use and hand-to-hand combat rather than depend entirely on Cursed Speech 59.
  • Technique development: His criticism pushes Mirai Oreki to develop finer bone control instead of relying only on reinforced punches 48.
  • Talent recruitment: Recognizes Higuruma’s potential, tests his resolve through illusion, and brings him to Jujutsu High 101.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Inverted Spear — Toji’s former weapon, later retained by Amaha. He uses it against Gojo and Geto and turns it on himself during the Ginza crisis 50 55 75 111.
  • Soul Liberation Blade — Wielded against Kashimo and during his fight with Gojo and Geto 84 85 111.
  • Inventory Curse Worm — Carries equipment while coiled around his neck and torso 84 85.
  • Advisor xiangqi piece — Holds it while reflecting on his abandonment and the family he has chosen 117 118.
  • Cigarettes — A habitual smoker; premium cigarettes persuade him to get out of bed for the Okinawa trip 32 43.

Relationships

  • Aoki Akawa — Fellow prisoner, early instructor, and eventual chosen elder brother. Amaha initially insists they are friends rather than family, but later explicitly accepts Aoki as his big brother. Kenjaku’s possession of Aoki’s body makes their later confrontation personal 3 10 14 82 118.
  • Satoru Gojo — Close friend, sparring partner, and frequent accomplice in disruptive behavior. Their relationship includes fierce fights, casual insults, and shared concern for Amaha’s history 34 53 111 117.
  • Suguru Geto — Close friend who helps investigate Amaha’s past, fights alongside him, and regularly reprimands his destructive conduct 34 64 118.
  • Shoko — Friend whose fear of his reputation initially causes a serious rupture. She takes responsibility for stabbing him, and their later interactions return to teasing familiarity 34 36 48.
  • Masamichi Yaga — Teacher and practical administrator of the Director’s Church. Amaha comes to respect his dedication to improving jujutsu society 87.
  • Mirai Oreki — Adopted younger brother and Special Grade sorcerer who greatly respects him and handles both brothers’ missions 48 111.
  • Toge Inumaki — Student personally recruited and trained by Amaha 59 95.
  • Yuta Okkotsu — Student; the later roster places him in Madrid transporting tobacco for Amaha 88 111.
  • Hiromi Higuruma — Recruitment target whose ideals Amaha tests with Heaven-Deceiving Ruse. Higuruma ultimately accepts the invitation to Jujutsu High 97 99 101.
  • Aman — Long-serving aide who manages investigations and delivers information about Amaha’s biological family 25 117.
  • Igarashi Akemi and Zhao Feng — Biological parents. Amaha rejects their request to meet, denies any present familial bond, and warns them to leave him alone 117.
  • Toji Fushiguro — Combat rival and occasional dining companion. Amaha later intervenes to stop his gun hand during the confrontation involving Riko 30 42 45.
  • Riko Amanai — Protective ally and frequent target of his teasing; she retaliates over incidents such as his cigarette ash in her flowerpot 40 43 45 48.
  • Kenjaku — Enemy who possesses Aoki’s body and inadvertently helps create Amaha’s transformed technique 82 116.
  • Ryomen Sukuna — Major opponent who calls Amaha his natural enemy; their later battle involves domain clashes, Dragon release, and apparently fatal cutting attacks 111 127 128 129.
