Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Grade 1 Jujutsu Sorcerer 29 Explicitly identifies himself and Satoru Gojo as Grade 1 sorcerers. Already possesses Cursed Spirit Manipulation and can summon an imaginary cursed spirit 25 29.
Special Grade Sorcerer 49 Listed as Special Grade during his third year at Jujutsu High. The circumstances of his promotion are not shown.

Appearance

  • Hair: Black, tied in a bun, with a distinctive lock of bangs hanging over his forehead 24.
  • Eyes: Narrow and repeatedly described as foxlike 25 27 112.
  • Accessories: Ear gauges 24.
  • Build: Described as handsome; later stated to stand over 190 centimeters tall 24 110.

Personality

Geto generally presents himself as gentle, composed, and dependable. He reassures the frightened Kuroi during Riko Amanai’s rescue and welcomes Yuta Okkotsu warmly enough that Yuta initially considers him the most reliable-looking teacher 40 62. Masamichi Yaga likewise trusts him to supervise younger students when Gojo and Igarashi Amaha prove less dependable 60.

His concern for others centers on a sorcerer’s responsibility to protect non-sorcerers. He criticizes behavior that causes public panic and continues defending ordinary people despite Gojo’s impatience with his repeated lectures 64 113. He also rejects Amaha’s claim that killing is an effective foundation for reform, arguing that “stopping killing with killing” will not work 57.

This concern is not absolute opposition to violence. After Amaha explains that his victims were curse users and criminals, Geto accepts the explanation and apologizes for judging him from incomplete information 34.

Around his closest friends, Geto is mischievous, competitive, and quick to retaliate. He gleefully anticipates Gojo being struck by Amaha’s cursed-energy cannon, joins elaborate teasing, and participates in physical fights that earn all three punishment from Yaga 28 86 87. His usual role as the group’s lecturer does not keep him from becoming part of the chaos.

Abilities & Skills

Cursed Spirit Manipulation

Geto’s innate technique allows him to subjugate cursed spirits and deploy them for combat, transport, and protection 25 39 112.

Spirit Documented Use
Flying cursed spirits Carry Geto and passengers through the air; one is deployed during the hotel rescue to intercept a falling person 39 53 67.
Rainbow Dragon An enormous, pure-white dragon summoned beneath Amaha for a biting attack at maximum cursed-energy output 111.
Octopus cursed spirit Cushions Geto’s fall after Amaha drives him through a Curtain. Its tentacles then lift him from the crater 112.
Giant one-eyed Buddha-like spirit Geto shelters behind it while Gojo and Amaha fight 54.
Unnamed imaginary cursed spirit Participates in the group’s encirclement of Amaha 29.
  • Acquisition: Amaha gives him a dying cursed spirit described as equivalent to a Special Grade except for its inability to deploy a domain 25.
  • Practical versatility: His spirits let him combine aerial movement with attacks and avoid touching the ground even after a high-speed fall 111 112.
  • Investigative significance: Coordinated attacks by low-grade spirits initially lead Geto and Gojo to suspect another user of Cursed Spirit Manipulation. Amaha points out that attracting spirits together could produce similar behavior without controlling them 60.

Maximum Technique: Uzumaki

Geto can unleash Maximum Technique: Uzumaki 110.

  • Uses it against Gojo and Amaha after their mockery of his domain abilities 110.
  • The resulting explosion destroys the room’s wall and blasts both men outside, though neither is injured 110.

Simple Domain

Geto is associated with Simple Domain and the New Shadow Style, which Gojo and Amaha repeatedly use to tease him 103 110 112.

  • Gojo specifically acknowledges that Simple Domain “is a domain too” while attempting to retract an insult 110.
  • Geto later strikes Kinji Hakari for insulting Simple Domain 128.

Armed Combat

Geto fights at close range with Playful Cloud, combining staff attacks with movement on flying cursed spirits 112.

  • Swings the three-section staff at Amaha’s head while Gojo attacks from another direction 112.
  • Amaha’s use of Boogie Woogie redirects the blow into Gojo instead 112.

Barrier Techniques and Tactical Analysis

Geto handles both battlefield containment and the assessment of unfamiliar techniques.

  • Curtains: Erects a maximum-strength Curtain before Gojo and Amaha’s destructive sparring match 54.
  • Technique identification: Recognizes Amaha’s opening maneuver against Gojo as time freeze combined with a position swap rather than ordinary teleportation 27.
  • Strategic deduction: Identifies Megumi Fushiguro as a plausible target for Sukuna, connecting the Ten Shadows Technique with the earlier incarnation curse placed in Tsumiki 119.
  • Battle reading: Correctly questions the purpose of Sukuna’s renewed domain clash, warning that it may conceal another attack rather than seek victory through the clash itself 130.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Playful Cloud — A Special Grade, three-section cursed staff wielded against Amaha during the exchange-event confrontation 53 112.

Background / History

Student Years and Amaha’s Arrival

Geto is introduced as a second-year student alongside Gojo and Shoko Ieiri. Curious about a student transferring directly into their year, he initially wonders whether the newcomer might belong to one of the Three Great Families 24.

Amaha’s first gift to him is a powerful cursed spirit suited to Cursed Spirit Manipulation. Geto thanks him but questions both his knowledge of the technique and his claim to be stronger than Gojo 25. Their friendship develops rapidly through teasing and roughhousing 26 27.

The relationship nearly collapses when Shoko obtains records accusing Amaha of mass killing. Geto reads the report, concludes that they misjudged him, and joins the others in confronting him 28 29. After Amaha explains that those he killed were curse users and criminals, Geto and Gojo apologize for taking the records out of context 34.

Protecting the Star Plasma Vessel

Yaga assigns Geto, Gojo, and Amaha to protect Riko Amanai before her assimilation with Tengen. During the initial hotel attack, Geto enters the building alone; after Amaha swaps places with him, he deploys a flying cursed spirit to help rescue a falling person 39.

Geto supports giving Riko time with the people she loves, recognizing that assimilation would permanently separate her from them 41. At the Tombs of the Star Corridor, he tells her that she can refuse assimilation and leave with Kuroi. He explains that he and Gojo have already discussed protecting her choice, with Amaha’s guarantee supporting them 45.

When Riko chooses to live with her friends, Geto offers his hand and invites her home. Amaha then stops Toji Fushiguro from shooting her. Geto warns Amaha about Toji and remains worried about the wounded Gojo despite repeated assurances that he will survive 45 46.

Special Grade and Overseas Missions

By his third year, Geto is a Special Grade Sorcerer. Yaga assigns him and Gojo to lead first-years on a month of overseas missions, with Geto responsible for recording their results 49.

He repeatedly pushes Gojo and Amaha to take the assignments seriously, erects barriers around their destructive fighting, and warns the juniors to retreat if a mission becomes unsafe 54 55 56. He is not immune to their carelessness: all three become distracted playing cards after a cursed spirit swallows Riko and Mirai Oreki, then rush to intervene when they remember the pair 56.

On June 23, 2007, Geto, Gojo, and Amaha bump fists and promise to change the world. The pledge follows a disagreement over Amaha’s violent methods of controlling Southern Europe 57.

Teaching and the Ginza Crisis

As a teacher, Geto receives responsibility for watching the new students, particularly Maki Zenin and Toge Inumaki; Yaga also expresses confidence in Panda under his care 60. He objects when Amaha sends Yuta to buy cigarettes before the boy has even entered his new classroom 61.

Geto helps investigate increasingly organized cursed-spirit attacks and the resulting deaths 60 65. When Ginza is devastated, he rushes toward the city center with Gojo and contacts Jujutsu High to mobilize support 68.

By 2018, he is Megumi Fushiguro’s designated teacher and participates in the teachers’ student competition with Gojo and Amaha 92.

Exchange Event and Shibuya Incident

During the sister-school exchange event, Geto joins Gojo in attacking Amaha after being insulted. Their aerial fight breaks through the Curtain above the students’ battlefield. Geto survives the landing on an octopus spirit and is subsequently left to handle the students’ rescue and pursue an escaped Special Grade while his friends leave 111 112.

Before the Shibuya conflict, he sends Mimiko and the others abroad using Amaha’s card. Amaha also instructs him and Gojo to begin evacuating Shibuya’s ordinary residents 118.

Geto pursues Kenjaku, but Kenjaku uses Coordinates to escape to Jujutsu High with Yuji Itadori 126. When Sukuna incarnates in Gojo, Geto supports the unconscious Yuji and watches the confrontation with Amaha 127. He later follows the battle remotely and warns the spectators that Sukuna’s latest domain clash may be a feint 128 130.

Two Years After Shibuya

Geto remains with his friends and the Jujutsu High group. At a Hokkaido beachfront gathering, he oversees the meal, scolds Gojo for taking undercooked meat, and eventually strikes both Gojo and Amaha with a serving spoon to make them come eat 131.

Relationships

  • Satoru Gojo — Classmate, close friend, and fellow teacher. Their bond combines mutual trust, rivalry, and relentless teasing; they also agree together to uphold Riko’s right to reject assimilation 24 45 86.
  • Igarashi Amaha — Close friend and fellow reformer. Geto challenges his methods and treatment of students while remaining part of the trio’s promise to change the world 57 61 113.
  • Shoko Ieiri — Classmate and friend. They share the shock of learning about Amaha’s alleged crimes, while Shoko later watches Geto lecture the other two with amusement 28 29 64.
  • Masamichi Yaga — Teacher and later principal. Yaga entrusts Geto with mission records and student supervision, but still punishes him when he joins his friends’ misconduct 49 60 87.
  • Riko Amanai — Protection target and later junior. Geto defends her opportunity to enjoy her remaining time before assimilation, then offers to help her leave instead 41 45 49.
  • Megumi Fushiguro — Designated student. Geto also recognizes the danger posed by Sukuna’s possible interest in Megumi’s Ten Shadows Technique 92 119.
  • Panda — Student under Geto’s care; Yaga explicitly regards this arrangement as reassuring 60.
  • Mimiko and the other girl in his care — Geto supports two girls and makes time to take them out for takoyaki. Before Shibuya, he arranges for Mimiko and the others to travel abroad 64 88 118.
