Background / History

Qian Renxue is the daughter of Qian Xunji and Bibi Dong, and the granddaughter of Spirit Hall’s Great Enshrined, Qian Daoliu. She remembers her father affectionately as someone who played with her and comforted her when her mother scolded her. She remains unaware that Bibi Dong killed him 22 23 40.

Bibi Dong proposed the Nation-Stealing Plan partly to keep Qian Renxue away from Qian Daoliu, fearing that her daughter would discover the truth about her father’s death. Qian Daoliu supported her departure out of concern for her safety and a desire for her to understand the compromises involved in leading a major power. By the discussion of her approaching twentieth-year hairpin ceremony, she had been away from Spirit City for almost ten years 23.

She replaced Xue Qinghe and assumed his position as Heaven Dou’s crown prince. Despite her access to the imperial court, Emperor Xue Ye retains firm control over the military. His good health and the competing interests of the duchies lead her to expect that the mission will continue for many more years 22 31.

Her manner becomes markedly more playful when she sheds Xue Qinghe’s appearance. With Ling Yu, she jokes, teases, and enjoys opportunities to act without the restraint of her public identity. She admits that his arrival has given her far more chances to speak in her own appearance 24 31 33.
