"Ah-!"

Red screamed as his soul body was shattered outright, leaving him utterly dead.

Laus, who was even weaker, fared worse still. He was blasted into a cloud of bloody mist, without even a corpse left behind.

Atop a distant building, a man in golden armor who had been drinking abruptly rose to his feet and tossed aside his bottle. "At last, someone worth getting involved for!"

Before his words had faded, he had already vanished from the building.

On the battlefield, only after executing his two subordinates for their failures did The Defiler turn his gaze toward Wuxin and the other two on the ground.

"A pity. Just three male Saints, not female Saints!" The Defiler shook his head regretfully.

At that, realization dawned on Wuxin, and he blurted out, "So it was you! You're the one who defiled the priestess in the goddess's temple and brutally murdered her!"

"That's right. It was me. What of it?" The Defiler nodded lightly, his tone calm, as though he had done something utterly trivial.

"Damn you, blasphemer! The goddess will punish you!" Canes Venatici and Ursa Major roared in fury together.

"Athena?"

The Defiler sneered. "If she chooses to punish me in bed, I wouldn't be opposed!"

"Damn you! You damned bastard!"

Hearing those words, Canes Venatici and Ursa Major grew even angrier, struggling to get up from the ground.

Yet all that awaited them was another casual stomp from The Defiler.

Thud!

The sound of that stomp struck the hearts of Wuxin and the other two like a heavy hammer.

"Urgh-!"

All three spat blood, their faces deathly pale, without even the strength to move a finger.

"As the first Saints to meet me, I've decided to grant you a blessing!"

The Defiler's tone was lofty, as though he were bestowing charity, as he continued unhurriedly, "I'll let you choose the way you'd most like to die!"

"Now, tell me your wishes!"

"Merciful as I am, I would never go back on my word!"

As he spoke, he had already walked up to Wuxin and the others, looking down at the three of them.

Sensing the contempt in his tone, Canes Venatici said furiously, "If you think we'll bow to you, you're dreaming!"

"Even in death, we will never submit to you!" Ursa Major immediately echoed him.

The Defiler did not respond to their words. Instead, he looked at Wuxin with interest. "Your two companions have already declared they'd rather die than submit. What about you?"

"I get the feeling your resolve isn't quite as firm as theirs."

As he spoke, a trace of amusement entered The Defiler's voice.

From the moment he arrived, he had noticed that Wuxin was more "quiet" than the other two, or rather, more rational. He had hardly said anything that might provoke him.

People like this were the most rational, the most inclined to weigh gains and losses, and the easiest to win over.

If he could poach a Saint from the Sanctuary, it would bring him more pleasure than killing ten Saints.

Hearing this, Walter and Mike seemed to think of something too, and both turned astonished gazes toward Wuxin.

"You're not actually planning to beg him, are you?" Canes Venatici demanded seriously.

"Sigh-"

Wuxin sighed softly. "If we can die a little more comfortably, I don't think there's any need for us to cling to that pathetic bit of pride, is there?"

"But I suspect Lord The Defiler's aim isn't quite that simple!"

"Am I right?"

As he spoke, he struggled to turn his head and gave The Defiler a meaningful look, adopting an extremely humble posture.

Judging by the current situation, their opponent thought everything was firmly in hand, so he was in no hurry to kill the three of them.

If he could live a little longer, Wuxin naturally had no desire to seek death.

Sometimes, staying alive a little longer might bring a new turn of events.

With that in mind, he planned to have a good chat with this Blasphemer, probe his background, and stall for time along the way.

Of course, in the eyes of Canes Venatici and Ursa Major, his behavior was no different from willingly degrading himself, and was rather ill-timed.

But to survive, Wuxin could no longer concern himself with so much.

He did not want to die just yet, especially when there was a chance of staying alive.

He would seize every possible chance to survive!

"It's so much easier dealing with clever people!"

The Defiler nodded and got straight to the point. "As long as you come with me, I can grant you greater power and a suit of armor that is in no way inferior to a Gold Cloth!"

"Damn you! You're actually trying to corrupt our companion!"

Seeing this, Canes Venatici and Ursa Major once again roared in fury.

Unfortunately, to The Defiler, these were merely the pitiful cries of the weak.

"Very tempting terms!"

Wuxin gave no clear answer, instead asking unobtrusively, "Since you intend to take me away from the Sanctuary, surely I should at least know which lord I'll be serving next?"

The Defiler was powerful. For someone to command a warrior like him, Wuxin suspected there was very likely a god behind him.

Chapter 28: Cancer comes to the rescue

At this, The Defiler immediately fell silent, and the smile vanished completely from his face.

Only after a long while did he speak. "As you are now, you're not yet qualified to know that!"

"If you can reach the Seventh Sense, I can introduce you to that lord!"

"Since I cannot know that lord's name, what about your own, Lord The Defiler? Surely I can't remain ignorant of even your name?" Wuxin immediately switched targets.

If he could not learn about the one behind him, finding out more about the Blasphemer before him would still be good.

"Me? I am..."

The Defiler instinctively began to answer, but quickly realized something and hurriedly swallowed the words already on the tip of his tongue.

He finally understood that Wuxin was merely fishing for information.

"You damned bastard! You dare pry into my secrets!" The Defiler flew into a rage, raising his right foot and stamping down hard at Wuxin on the ground.

"Die-!"

This is bad!

Wuxin felt as though he had plunged into an ice cellar, chilled from head to toe.

He had never imagined that the fellow before him would turn hostile so abruptly, without the slightest warning.

Faced with that stomp, which radiated terrifying fluctuations, he had no chance of resisting.

But just then, accompanied by a burst of unrestrained laughter, a golden figure charged onto the battlefield.

"Looks like I'm not too late!"

There was a dull impact, and the unprepared Blasphemer was sent flying by a single blow from the golden figure.

Only when the newcomer planted his feet and the golden light dispersed did Wuxin see him clearly: a man in golden armor, wearing an eight-pronged helmet shaped like crab legs.

"Hey, you must be the disciple Lord Hakurei recently took in, the one the old man mentioned?"

"I can sense a pure aura of death on you!" He turned his head and greeted Wuxin on the ground with a smile.

"Thank you for coming to our rescue in time, Senior Brother Manigoldo!" Wuxin replied in delighted surprise.

He had already recognized the man before him as the Gold Saint of Cancer.

Manigoldo, however, was clearly somewhat surprised by the title "senior brother."

He froze for a moment, then scratched his head and laughed awkwardly. "Lord Hakurei and the old man are twin brothers, so I suppose calling me your senior brother isn't wrong!"

Walter of Canes Venatici, who had also recognized Manigoldo, asked in surprise, "My lord, weren't you supposed to be guarding the Sanctuary? Why have you suddenly appeared here?"

With the Holy War imminent, the Gold Saints could not move out lightly.

Manigoldo waved a hand. "I wasn't planning to come originally, either!"

"But Lady Sasha seemed to sense something and said your investigation would be dangerous. I happened to be feeling bored lately, so the old man sent me out to follow you in secret!"

"Who would've thought you'd really run into such a big one!"

With that, he turned to look at The Defiler, who had regained his footing a short distance away.

His opponent was very powerful and had undoubtedly reached the Seventh Sense. This was simply not someone Silver Saints and Bronze Saints could handle.

Although he had landed a surprise punch, it had not caused his opponent much trouble. It had not even left a mark on his armor.

"A Gold Saint?"

Recognizing Manigoldo's golden armor, The Defiler showed no sign of nervousness. Instead, he calmly brushed the dust off himself.

"Since you've delivered yourself to my doorstep, I don't mind adding a Gold Saint's head to my trophies!" he said calmly, as though victory were already assured.

"That guy's strong. Keep your distance!" Putting away his irreverent smile, Manigoldo gave the three on the ground a very serious warning.

"Yes!"

The three answered, helped one another to their feet, and then made their way out of the battlefield with difficulty.

Although The Defiler had severely injured them, without his suppression they could now just barely move.

The Defiler made no move to stop them. Instead, he stared at Manigoldo with keen interest.

"I'm very curious to see just what standard today's Gold Saints are at!"

As he spoke, his figure flickered, and he had already left his original position.

Boom!
