Power Progression
Andrew’s Documented Advancement
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Water Sovereign | 190 191 | Returns to the Yulan Continent to accept Beirut’s Sovereign Sparks; his Water Sovereign advancement precedes the Fire Spark fusion. |
| Dual-element Sovereign: Water and Fire | 191 | Refines the Fire Element Sovereign Spark originally reserved for Bluefire. Andrew estimates that his combined strength can rival an ordinary Highgod Sovereign. |
| Three-element Sovereign: Water, Fire, and Lightning | 196 | Kills Covista and immediately fuses with his Lightning Element Sovereign Spark. |
| Water Sovereign Clone reaches Paragon | 197 | Achieved after two thousand years of cultivation while creating his own Divine Plane. |
| Fire Sovereign Clone reaches Paragon | 197 | Recorded at the ten-thousand-year milestone of his subsequent cultivation. |
| Lightning Sovereign Clone reaches Paragon | 197 | Recorded at the hundred-thousand-year milestone. |
| Beyond Sovereign | 198 | His souls, original body, and Sovereign Divine Clones merge. He no longer needs his three Sovereign Sparks and demonstrates control over space. |
Nature and Hierarchy
- Sovereign status and Paragon attainment are separate. A Sovereign can continue cultivating toward Paragon, as Andrew does with all three Sovereign Divine Clones 197.
- Willpower is a major source of superiority. It strengthens attacks, defenses, bodies, and souls; Sovereigns can erase experts below Paragon with a thought 113.
- Rank does not determine every battle. Soul mutation, fused power, innate abilities, physical strength, and exceptional weapons can allow a Sovereign to rival higher-ranked opponents 81 191 195.
- The Four Rules Sovereigns exercise disciplinary authority. Unauthorized killings of Sovereigns can lead to their judgment and execution of the offender 196.
| Rank / Designation | Documented Position |
|---|---|
| Lower Sovereign | The lowest Sovereign tier. Beirut considers ordinary candidates insufficient to challenge Augusta even if they attain Paragon before becoming Sovereigns 55. |
| Mid-level Sovereign | Above Lower Sovereigns; Zijing belongs to this tier 103. |
| Highgod Sovereign | The highest of the three stated tiers. Andrew initially estimates that his dual-element strength approaches an ordinary member of this rank 191. |
| Four Rules Sovereigns | Destruction, Death, Life, and Orloff are involved in the authority governing Sovereign conduct. Augusta is described as ranking beneath these four 195 196. |
Becoming a Sovereign
Sovereign Sparks
- A scarce, transferable foundation: Only seventy-seven Sovereign Sparks exist. Obtaining an owned Spark requires its Sovereign to fall 191.
- Opportunity rather than cultivation alone: The first generation obtained Sparks when heaven and earth formed. Later acquisition became vastly more difficult because almost every Spark already had an owner 191.
- Multiple Sovereign clones: One individual can possess more than one Sovereign Divine Clone. Andrew develops Water, Fire, and Lightning Sovereign clones; Hurley possesses two 196 197.
- Elemental suitability matters: Beirut’s Water, Fire, and Earth Sparks leave Andrew without a source for his Lightning clone, requiring him to seek another Sovereign’s Spark 172 191.
Soul Mutation
- Soul mutation makes candidates especially valuable to Beirut because fusing the power of multiple Sovereign clones can overcome the limitations of an ordinary Lower Sovereign 55 81.
- Andrew’s two-element Sovereign fusion, combined with his body and innate ability, gives him an estimated fighting strength comparable to an ordinary Highgod Sovereign despite the gap in Willpower 191.
Abilities and Powers
Sovereign’s Might
The divine power unique to Sovereigns is purer than a god’s divine power and contains a small amount of Willpower even in a single drop 113.
- Combat enhancement: Strengthens speed, attacks, defenses, and soul power; stronger soul power can also amplify innate divine abilities 133 160.
- Body tempering: Water Sovereign Power reshapes Andrew’s scales, horns, claws, and tail, improving his physical toughness 94 95.
- Attribute compatibility: Kepulang gains at least a hundredfold increase by using Destruction Sovereign Power with his own Destruction cultivation. Azure Dragon descendant Blu receives an especially strong benefit from Water Sovereign Power 94 141.
- Limited control for ordinary deities: Without Willpower, much of a drop dissipates unused. This encourages short, decisive battles 95.
- Diminishing relative amplification: A Lowgod may gain more than a thousandfold strength, while a Paragon receives a comparatively limited increase 94.
Faith-Enhanced Souls
- Sovereigns receive vast amounts of faith power that strengthen their souls and assist their comprehension and fusion of profound mysteries 119.
- After becoming a Sovereign, Andrew absorbs faith power and experiences a qualitative soul transformation. His physical, “soul jindan” state is his own exceptional development, not a stated universal Sovereign trait 191.
Spatial and Planar Power
- A Sovereign can destroy a plane with a wave of the hand 30.
- Sovereigns tear open space and travel through Spatial Turbulence 195 196.
- Andrew creates his own Divine Plane to investigate the full potential of his three-element soul mutation 197.
Sovereign Artifact Forging
- Sovereign Artifacts are described as artifacts that only Sovereigns can forge 109.
- Documented categories include Offensive, Material Defense, and Soul Defense Sovereign Artifacts 109 141 190.
- Their power can allow a Seven-Star Fiend to threaten an Asura, although the wielder’s own strength still matters 109 141.
- Sovereign Artifacts remain distinct from Overgod Artifacts. The Life Overgod transforms Andrew’s Godslaying Saber from the former into the latter 195.
Limitations and Rules
Material Plane Restrictions
A Sovereign cannot descend to a Material Plane other than their birthplace. The obstacle is soul incompatibility, not an inability to restrain energy: the Sovereign’s soul and the foreign plane repel one another, causing the plane to collapse 66.
- This restriction makes the Yulan Continent a refuge for Beirut’s faction against Augusta 172 180.
- Becoming a Sovereign initially risks confining Andrew there because Augusta threatens any newly empowered member of Beirut’s faction who leaves 172 180.
Physical Potential
- Sovereign status does not automatically grant a body as tough as a Sovereign Artifact 78.
- An ordinary human Sovereign cannot reach even Divine Spark toughness through Sovereign’s Might alone 78.
- Zijing’s body likewise cannot attain Sovereign Artifact toughness despite her powerful Amethyst Divine Beast heritage 78.
- Exceptional abilities can still affect Sovereigns: Azure Dragon’s Dragon Roar can influence them if its user’s bloodline is sufficiently strong 9.
Killing Other Sovereigns
- Killing a Sovereign without authorization can result in judgment by the Four Rules Sovereigns and execution if found guilty 196.
- Andrew engineers Covista’s attack on his Lightning Divine Clone to establish grounds for retaliation. Beirut also seeks the Sovereign of Destruction’s support before the confrontation 196.
- The Four Rules Sovereigns ultimately do not punish Andrew after he kills Covista and Hurley 197.
Emissaries and Authority
Sovereign’s Emissaries
- Purpose: Handle matters their Sovereign does not wish to address personally 109.
- Selection: Usually powerful deities, but exceptional talent can justify recruiting even a Lowgod 109.
- Reward: Andrew is allowed to choose one Sovereign Artifact upon accepting Zijing’s offer 109.
- Obligations: Some powerful Highgods avoid the position because they consider it a restriction on their freedom 109.
- Exceptional requests: Zijing asks Paragon-strength Andrew to protect Leisjing rather than simply ordering him; his strength gives him the standing to refuse 190.
Armies and City Rules
- Sovereign armies serve the Sovereign of their continent, while prefecture armies serve the holder of the prefect’s office 135.
- Combat is forbidden in Sovereign cities, but enforcement still depends on sufficient military strength to deter offenders 140 144.
Sovereign Power in the Divine Economy
| Resource | Connection to Sovereigns |
|---|---|
| Sovereign’s Might | Usually obtained as a Sovereign’s reward. Its scarcity makes even a few drops a major reserve for powerful clans and Asuras 94 113 132. |
| Inkstones and Azurnite slabs | Sovereign creations containing minute remnants of Sovereign’s Might, which sufficiently capable experts can extract 113. |
| Soul Stone | Zijing’s condensed Soul Essence allows Andrew to extract Sovereign’s Might without possessing Willpower himself 113 114. |
| Planar War military merits | Sufficient merits can be exchanged for a Sovereign Artifact forged by a Sovereign 189 190. |
| Overgod Artifacts | Coveted even by Sovereigns. Augusta’s possession of one places him above the other six elemental Sovereigns mentioned alongside him 195 196. |
Notable Sovereigns
| Sovereign | Significance |
|---|---|
| Beirut | Refines the Wind Sovereign Spark after seizing the Four Divine Beasts’ corpses; later supplies Andrew with Water and Fire Sparks 59 190 191. |
| Zijing | Mid-level Sovereign of the Amethyst Mountains; recruits Andrew as an emissary and grants him an offensive artifact and Soul Stone 103 109. |
| Augusta | Radiant Sovereign and enemy of Beirut’s faction; possesses an Overgod Artifact 55 195. |
| Four Divine Beast Sovereigns | Their fallen bodies and Sovereign Sparks become the foundation of Beirut’s faction’s rise 59 190. |
| Covista | One of four Lower Sovereigns of the Lightning Element Divine Plane; killed by Andrew for his Lightning Spark 196. |
| Hurley | Lightning Element Sovereign with two Sovereign Divine Clones; both are killed by Andrew 196 197. |
| Andrew | Becomes a three-element Sovereign, brings all three Sovereign clones to Paragon, and eventually surpasses the rank 196 197 198. |
