Background / History
Childhood in Maple Forest Town
Ling'er grew up in Maple Forest Town with her parents and older brother. Andrew named her and frequently carried her on his back or shoulders, played with her, and coaxed her to sleep. Her attachment was strong enough that Janice remarked that Ling'er was closer to Andrew than to her own mother 1 2.
When Andrew first accompanied Howard on a trading journey, Ling'er cried and asked whether her brother no longer wanted her. Janice reassured her that he would return with a present 3.
After Matthews threatened the family, Andrew persuaded his parents to leave town. Ling'er did not understand the circumstances and departed with them quietly that night 6 7.
Life with the Keli Tribe
The Keli Tribe welcomed the family and provided a stone house. Five-year-old Ling'er strongly disliked its crude condition, crying and fussing; the family subsequently renovated it into a courtyard home 8.
After Andrew returned from the journey associated with his suspected soul mutation, his repeated dazes and unexplained grinning worried Ling'er. She initially cried when he failed to respond to her and remained doubtful when he explained that he was merely happy 12.
Andrew's three years of intensive cultivation left him little time for her. When he finally returned with a carving of her at play, Ling'er initially ignored him, then cried over how long it had been since his last gift. She forgave him after he promised to spend time with her 13.
Despite missing him, eight-year-old Ling'er supported his next training journey. Andrew subsequently decided that she was old enough to begin cultivation and that the family should move somewhere with suitable academies 14 16.
Journey to the Imperial Capital
Ling'er's education became a principal reason for the family's move to the imperial capital. When Howard questioned whether she could meet a prestigious academy's admission standards, she insisted that her talent would be high 19 20.
During the journey, she flew across the White River with Andrew on Golden Tiger. Learning that a powerful mage could fly independently prompted her to declare that she wanted to become one 21.
In White River City, Kate's insults frightened Ling'er into seeking refuge with Janice and Andrew. After Andrew retaliated against the Frey family, Janice shielded Ling'er from the screams and bodies left by Golden Tiger. Ling'er refused to ride him again until he cleaned the blood from his fur 22 23.
Attempted Sacrifice in Lefen City
At the Lefen city lord's manor, Ling'er experienced an unnatural chill that Howard and Milly could not feel. Andrew held her and blocked the city lord's view of her. She also refused the food served at the feast 29.
The city lord identified her as possessing a pure soul, using a glowing bead that he claimed had been bestowed by the Nether God. Believing that sacrificing such a person would earn him godhood, he took the half-conscious Ling'er from Andrew and bound her to the central cross of an altar, with Milly and Aida on either side 29 30.
Andrew recovered in time to interrupt the sacrifice. As the city lord lowered a black crystal-like sword toward Ling'er's heart, Andrew struck him away and seized the weapon 30.
Andrew subsequently killed the city lord, freed Ling'er and the other captives, and left the estate with them after they awoke. The later account of the city lord's history establishes that he had refined the detection bead himself using instructions received from a mysterious black statue, rather than simply receiving the finished bead as he had claimed 30 32.
Academy Life
After reaching the imperial capital, the family moved into a courtyard residence near Divine Grace Academy. Ling'er's spiritual-power test confirmed her exceptional aptitude, and she began attending the academy under Bandeni's care 33 34.
Andrew deliberately did not accompany her on her first day, hoping to foster her independence. She subsequently returned home only a handful of times over more than six months, by which point she had become a third-level mage 34 36.
Through her friendship with Han Yue, Ling'er helped bring Andrew and Han Yue together. She teased them about their mutual attraction and invited Han Yue home every two or three days, giving their relationship opportunities to develop 42 43.
After Andrew's four-year seclusion, Ling'er and Han Yue undertook a training expedition to the Mountain Range of Magical Beasts with Bandeni's Saint-level teacher. Andrew set out to find them after learning of their absence, but Baird ambushed him on the way 50 51.
When the expedition ended, Ling'er and Han Yue learned that Andrew had come looking for them and waited in nearby Mithril City rather than returning directly to the imperial capital. Andrew eventually reunited with them and spent over ten days there, purchasing several million gold coins' worth of magical equipment for the two 54.
On the return journey, Ling'er challenged Andrew over leaving Han Yue waiting for four years without making his intentions clear. When he promised to marry Han Yue in another year, she demanded to know why he needed to wait. After Andrew explained his coming duel with Baird and Han Yue insisted on facing the danger alongside him, Ling'er was pleased by their renewed closeness 54.
Family Life and Continued Cultivation
After Andrew defeated Baird, Ling'er eagerly asked whether he had won, then hugged Han Yue and jumped in celebration when he confirmed his victory 57.
Andrew later brought his family to a vast magic crystal deposit and established cultivation formations for them. At this point, Ling'er was a fifth-level mage and was expected to make another breakthrough after quiet cultivation 60.
By the time Andrew was directing the affairs of the Lance Duchy, Ling'er and Han Yue had both graduated from Divine Grace Academy. Ling'er had become a great fire mage, and Andrew believed that both women had the opportunity to reach Saint-level with his help. During his subsequent thirty-year seclusion, she and Han Yue became Level 9 Great Mages 77 82.
Life in the Infernal Realm
Ling'er was among the family members Andrew reunited with at Mirrormoon Cliff after hundreds of years apart. He gathered Han Yue, Howard, Janice, Ling'er, Herbert, and the rest of the family aboard his golden dragon-shaped Metallic Lifeform before departing for Emperor Wing City. Concern for his family's security subsequently motivated his decision to challenge a prefecture lord 110.
The family stayed in Emperor Wing City for six months while Andrew prepared for his challenge. Ling'er later lived in Bloodflame City for over a hundred years 112 147.
Journey to the Skyrite Mountains
When Andrew prepared to take his descendants to the Four Divine Beasts Clan for their Azure Dragon Bloodline baptism, Ling'er insisted on accompanying them. Andrew pointed out that she lacked the bloodline and had no need for the ceremony, but she explained that she was bored after more than a hundred years in Bloodflame City and wanted to see the famous clan described in books 147.
Andrew warned her that the clan was no longer as prosperous as those accounts suggested and was surrounded by the hostile Eight Great Clans. Ling'er remained eager to go, and Han Yue supported her request. Andrew ultimately agreed, relying on his own strength and the protection of Pusluo and Dikor to safeguard the family 147.
Ling'er traveled with the family aboard the golden dragon-shaped Metallic Lifeform, with Pusluo guarding the front and Dikor the rear. As they approached the Skyrite Mountains, an Edric Clan patrol attempted to stop them. Pusluo killed the patrol after its leader attacked him, and Andrew later left the vessel to confront a larger pursuing force 147.
Appearance
- Early childhood: Described as a chubby little girl with a babyish voice and bright laughter 1.
- At five years old: Wears little braids and bangs. She objects when Andrew's sculpture depicts her younger, rounder appearance 2.
- Eyes: Bright, round, and black 24.
Personality
Ling'er is affectionate and outspoken about wanting her brother's company. As a small child, she fears being abandoned when he travels; later, she resents his prolonged absences but readily forgives him when he acknowledges her feelings. She also learns to support his training despite wanting him at home 3 13 14.
She enjoys beautiful surroundings and new experiences, from exploring White River City's streets to imagining a future home in a large manor. Her confidence appears when she defends her own magical potential, while her quick wit emerges in teasing Andrew about his selective caution toward nobles and his awkward behavior around Han Yue 20 21 24 43.
Academy life makes her more independent. When Andrew jokes about her infrequent visits, she promptly reminds him that developing her independence was his idea 36.
Her support for Han Yue extends beyond playful matchmaking: she openly reproaches Andrew for leaving Han Yue waiting during his seclusion and urges him to clarify their future together 54.
Her curiosity and appetite for new experiences persist after more than a century in Bloodflame City. She insists on visiting the Four Divine Beasts Clan despite knowing about its conflict with the Eight Great Clans 147.
Abilities & Skills

Ling'er possesses high-grade fire-element affinity, demonstrated when Bandeni's testing crystal glows a pure fiery red beneath her hand 26.
- Studies magic at Divine Grace Academy 34.
- Becomes a third-level mage within approximately six months 36.
- Her talent for fire magic is later acknowledged by academy staff 47.
- Reaches the fifth level by the time Andrew establishes cultivation formations for the family near the magic crystal deposit 60.

- Becomes a Level 9 Great Mage during Andrew's thirty-year seclusion 82.
Spiritual Power
Her academy entrance test measures spiritual power at nearly one hundred times that of an ordinary person, establishing exceptional mental aptitude 33.
- Andrew believes her pure soul may help explain her spiritual talent, but this is presented as his assessment rather than a confirmed mechanism 33 36.
Pure Soul
Ling'er is identified as having a pure soul by the lord of Lefen City, whose detection bead glows in her presence 29.
- Makes her the intended centerpiece of his sacrifice to the Nether God 29 30.
- She senses the manor's unnatural cold, as Andrew does, while Howard and Milly do not; the passages do not establish why 29.
- The detection bead is later revealed to have been refined by the city lord according to instructions transmitted by a mysterious black statue 32.
Bloodline
Unlike Andrew's descendants, Ling'er does not possess the Azure Dragon Bloodline. Andrew explicitly states that she therefore has no need for the Four Divine Beasts Clan's bloodline-awakening baptism 147.
