Background
Beirut was the first God-Eater Rat and the only top-tier divine beast native to the Yulan Plane identified in Andrew’s account of its early history. His strength was not solely a bloodline advantage: he cultivated independently for several million years and created a miniature planar cultivation space in the Chaotic Territory 9 20 58 60.
He witnessed the Four Divine Beasts fight Augusta, the Radiant Sovereign. Although all four were Lower Sovereigns, their combined abilities allowed them to match Augusta. Beirut seized an opportunity to take their bodies and Sovereign Sparks, destroyed the projection Augusta sent to the Yulan Plane, and refined the Wind Sovereign Spark 59 69 81.
The theft made Augusta his enemy. Unable to freely send his Sovereign clone beyond the Yulan Continent, Beirut sought exceptional Yulan cultivators who could inherit the remaining Sparks and strengthen his faction. Soul mutants were especially valuable because ordinary Sovereign candidates offered little prospect of overcoming Augusta 55 190 191.
Beirut also spread rumors that the Necropolis of the Gods contained Sovereign Sparks and Sovereign Artifacts, drawing dangerous extraplanar experts to the continent. During the War of World Destruction, he killed numerous powerful deities; other unwanted deities were killed or imprisoned in the Planar Prison 13 28 80.
Appearance
- Human form: An elderly man with loose, long hair and a beard reaching his chest 68.
- Clothing: Usually wears black robes 68 177.
- Eyes: Small, dark, and gleaming 69.
- Build and bearing: Not particularly tall, with a smiling, apparently harmless demeanor that contrasts with the pressure he can exert 68 168.
Personality
Beirut is proud of his race and innate abilities. His descendants’ inability to match the Four Divine Beasts’ descendants troubles him, prompting repeated attempts to strengthen their inherited bloodline. Andrew’s transformation renews his hope that the secrets of divine-beast inheritance can be uncovered 79 135.
He values talent without demanding access to every personal secret. When Andrew reveals knowledge of the world-destroying battle, Beirut recognizes that he is hiding something but explicitly declines to investigate. Andrew’s soul mutation and unusual soul strength matter more to him 69.
His patronage is generous but pragmatic. He offers Andrew precious essence blood, yet initially regards a failed fusion and Andrew’s death as an acceptable loss: another genius could appear in a few thousand years. As Andrew develops, Beirut becomes increasingly invested in his success 69 80 135.
Beirut also takes debts seriously. He views Andrew’s assistance to the Four Divine Beasts Clan as a way to repay his own acquisition of their ancestors’ Sovereign Sparks. As prefect, however, he refuses to fight the clan’s war for it and enforces limits on both sides 135 169.
Abilities & Skills
God-Eater
Beirut’s innate divine ability is an exceptionally powerful Soul Attack 79.
- Lethal to opponents of the same level below the Paragon rank unless they possess a Soul Defense Sovereign Artifact 79.
- Countered by Soul Defense Sovereign Artifacts 9.
- Cannot overcome a Paragon’s Willpower, despite Beirut’s naturally superior soul 12.
Divine-Beast Physique
His body is comparable to a Sovereign Artifact, giving him extraordinary physical offense and defense 9 111.
- Can devour Divine Sparks to strengthen himself 79.
- Can withstand attacks from commander-level opponents wielding Sovereign Artifacts 95.
- In a recorded battle, shattered a commander-level opponent’s Highgod Artifact and then destroyed his head with bare-handed strikes 111.
- His physique alone would not have protected him from banishment into Spatial Turbulence by a Paragon before he became a Sovereign 9.
Darkness Divine Clone
Beirut’s Darkness Divine Clone combines a powerful body, five fused profound mysteries, and access to his Wind Sovereign Clone’s Willpower 122.
- Possesses strength comparable to a Paragon without itself being described as a Paragon 122.
- Moves with speed that appears almost like teleportation in a Floating Shadow recording 111.
- Killed the former Indigo Prefect after severely wounding him within a few exchanges and catching him as he fled 122.
- Publicly recognized as the strongest expert beneath the Sovereigns on the Blood Peak Continent; this reputation conceals his actual Sovereign identity 111.
Divine Sense and Concealment
- Can monitor the entire Yulan Continent with divine sense and follows Andrew’s activities before meeting him 68.
- As a Sovereign, can extend divine sense across the entire Infernal Realm 190.
- Can remain undetected by Saint-level Andrew even while standing directly before him 69.
- Uses his God’s Domain to seal the area during Andrew’s first Azure Dragon essence-blood fusion 70.
Planar Creation
- Created a miniature planar space in the Chaotic Territory containing all seven elements and the four supreme energies. Andrew finds battle-qi refinement and magical-power accumulation there several dozen times faster than outside 58 60.
- Created the small Divine Plane housing the Necropolis of the Gods beneath the South Sea. Its eighteenth floor stores the Four Divine Beasts’ bodies and the sealed Sovereign Sparks 190.
Divine-Beast and Soul Research
Beirut has traveled countless planes and studied divine-beast inheritance and innate abilities 69 79.
- Classifies innate abilities into physical attack, Soul Attack, defense, and support 79.
- Identifies the time-altering, physical, and soul components of Andrew’s mutated Dragon Roar 79 80.
- Tried unsuccessfully to develop a baptism-like method for strengthening the God-Eater Rat bloodline in his descendants 135.
- Conducted unsuccessful human fusion experiments with Four Divine Beasts essence blood, then reconsidered the research after Andrew’s success 135.
- Explains the Divine Planes, profound-mystery fusion, and the advantages of three-element soul mutation to Andrew 81.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Staff: Used to kill powerful deities during the War of World Destruction; Beirut’s staff strikes later serve as Andrew’s benchmark for overwhelming force 80 185.
- Soul Defense Sovereign Artifact: Listed among his defenses in the Fiend Castle’s dossier 111.
- Interspatial ring: Stores books and his remaining Four Divine Beasts essence blood 68 135.
- Four Divine Beasts essence blood: Retains substantial reserves, studies their innate abilities, supplies some to the Sovereign of Destruction, and offers Andrew a choice of bloodlines 69.
- Sovereign Sparks: Obtained all four from the Four Divine Beasts; refined the Wind Spark and later entrusted the Water and Fire Sparks to Andrew 59 190 191.
- Special Divine Sparks: Prepares Fire and Earth Divine Sparks for Janice and Howard, resolving Andrew’s concerns about their limited lifespans 81 83.
- Metallic-lifeform castle: His Dark Forest castle is revealed to be a transformed metallic lifeform 80.
Relationships
- Andrew — Protégé and eventual inheritor of two Sovereign Sparks. Beirut supplies his Azure Dragon essence blood, advises his cultivation, arranges soul training, and cultivates him as a potential answer to Augusta 69 70 81 171 190 191.
- Augusta — Principal enemy. Beirut stole the Four Divine Beasts’ Sovereign Sparks from him; Augusta’s hostility keeps Beirut’s Sovereign clone confined to the Yulan Continent 59 190 191.
- Purple-Gold Rat Kings — His three children, who often roam the Chaotic Territory. His dissatisfaction with his descendants’ inherited talent drives his bloodline research 58 135.
- Four Divine Beasts Clan — A protected clan to which he feels indebted after acquiring its ancestors’ Sovereign Sparks. He forbids attacks on its Skyrite Mountains refuge but does not undertake its war himself 135 166 169.
- Dunnington — Friend whom Beirut asks to teach Andrew soul techniques 171 177.
- Donia — One of his four special envoys, an Asura-level expert who accompanies him to observe the clan battles 167 177.
- Bluefire — An earlier candidate for the Fire Sovereign Spark; Beirut ultimately decides Andrew is more suitable 68 191.
- Howard and Janice — Andrew’s parents, whom Beirut helps through specially prepared Divine Sparks 81 83.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Discovering and Sponsoring Andrew
Andrew deliberately publicizes his duel with Baird to attract Beirut’s attention through his soul-mutation talent. Beirut watches the duel remotely, but Andrew’s creation of Dragonblood Warriors finally prompts a personal visit 54 68.
After hearing Andrew’s soul-rejection research, Beirut offers samples from all Four Divine Beasts. Andrew proves perfectly compatible with Azure Dragon essence blood, and Beirut supervises his successful fusion before inviting him to the Dark Forest once he becomes a deity 69 70.
Beirut later tests Andrew’s golden-dragon transformation and discovers that its Dragon Roar combines three categories of innate ability. After Andrew becomes a Water Deity, Beirut explains the wider cultivation world and helps secure his parents’ future 79 80 81.
Indigo Prefecture and the Clan War
Beirut attends the decisive battle between the Four Divine Beasts Clan and the Eight Great Clans with the Indigo Prefecture Army. When the fighting reaches a stalemate, Andrew privately asks him to intervene 166 168.
He stops the battle but rejects Andrew’s public demand that the Eight Great Clans leave the Infernal Realm. Instead, the sides accept a thousand-year ceasefire proposed by Andrew, with Beirut promising to personally punish any violation 168 169.
During the later renewed confrontation, Beirut recognizes Andrew’s growing strength as close to Paragon level and attributes it to both his bloodline and his unusual fusion of mysteries 177 179.
Choosing a Sovereign Successor
After Andrew’s success on the Planar Battlefield, Beirut summons him to the Yulan Continent and brings him to the eighteenth floor of the Necropolis of the Gods. There, he recounts the theft of the Four Divine Beasts’ Sovereign Sparks and selects Andrew to inherit the Water and Fire Sparks 190 191.
Andrew’s resulting strength raises Beirut’s hopes of challenging Augusta, although he regrets that Andrew lacks an Earth Divine Clone that could use the remaining compatible opportunity 191.
When Andrew completes the Overgod Mission, Beirut warns that its existence must remain secret. He believes an Overgod Artifact will allow Andrew to contend with Augusta and finally free Beirut’s Sovereign clone from confinement 195.
