Background / History

Previous Life

Lin Tingyue grew up in an orphanage and remained there until adulthood. She later became an office worker, sharing meals, commutes, complaints about their boss, and dreams of financial freedom with a close coworker. She died suddenly from overwork before transmigrating into a novel she had read 1 28.

Although she worked hard to care for herself, being alone could bring back unhappy memories and make her dislike herself. Her preference for lively company is rooted partly in that loneliness 71.

The Fake Heiress’s Identity

The girl whose body she occupies was raised as Lin Rusong and Bai Yaxin’s biological daughter. Years earlier, an enemy of Lin Rusong had abandoned his actual daughter, Lin Xiawan, outside a hospital. While searching for Xiawan, Lin Rusong found the infant Tingyue and mistakenly brought her home as his own child 20.

In the original novel, the fake heiress resented Xiawan’s return and repeatedly framed her. Her behavior eventually led to expulsion from the family and death in a car accident. Before the transmigration, she had already cut Xiawan’s dresses, taken gifts intended for her, and mocked her publicly 1.

Transmigration and Change of Course

After awakening and meeting System 111, Lin Tingyue receives the novel’s plot. Discovering that the Lin family provides a monthly allowance of one million, separate clothing and jewelry funds, and share dividends, she abandons any intention of competing with Xiawan. Her immediate ambition is to enjoy financial freedom and “lie flat” 1.

Her transformation initially looks suspicious to Xiawan, particularly after their previous conflicts. Tingyue nevertheless accepts being called Second Miss without protest and naturally addresses Lin Rusong and Bai Yaxin as her parents 1.

Over time, her attachment becomes more than gratitude for a comfortable life. She comes to regard the people around her as real family and friends rather than characters in a book 48 68.

Appearance

Lin Tingyue is described as having a lovely face and a sweet, cute appearance 1 2.

  • Hair: Black and glossy, particularly admired by Feng Chao 61.
  • Everyday clothing: Often wears a little white dress; she pairs it with a straw hat while picking fruit and a headband at Xiawan’s engagement banquet 1 2.
  • Graduation outfit: Bai Yaxin and Mama Zhang dress her and Xiawan like “flower fairies,” with flower-decorated graduation caps 18.

Personality

Lin Tingyue openly loves money, expensive gifts, jewelry, and good food. High appearance fees can immediately overturn her reluctance to work, while lavish meals command her full attention. Her outwardly demure answers often contrast with much more enthusiastic thoughts 7 17 26.

Her inner voice is irreverent, theatrical, and relentlessly curious about gossip. Lin Shengyan is a favorite target: she repeatedly mocks his romantic fixation, punctures his attempts to look impressive, and teases him aloud. Their bickering coexists with genuine affection and concern 4 15 42 44.

Despite calling herself a money-grubber, she has principles. She hesitates over an expensive gift, refuses to turn her relationship with Ying An into a publicity stunt, and explicitly places her family’s love alongside money in importance 48 116 141.

She is affectionate and protective toward the family she gains. She reassures Bai Yaxin that she feels loved, asks that Xiawan be loved too, and makes a different cake for every family member. Professionally, she chooses to win over the capable but skeptical Yao Aoyun rather than have her removed 112 126 132 133.
