Bai Yu left Windmill Village to pursue swordsmanship and quickly gained allies and enemies while his skill and reputation grew. After defeating Koshiro and learning iron-cutting intent, he confronted Treasure at the docks, where the pirate challenged him with layered chains.

• Bai Yu defeated Ace in a duel, escaped Garp’s attempt to stop Ace’s departure, and agreed to join the Marines to protect his younger brothers.
• Bai Yu learned all Three Types of Haki, announced his plan to leave Windmill Village, and sailed alone toward Marine Headquarters.
• Bai Yu rescued Zoro from Black Axe’s crew, defeated the pirates, and recruited Nami and Carina after discovering Demon Sword Murasame.

Bai Yu defeated Treasure, Arlong, Smoker, Onigumo, and Krieg while gathering new crew members and crossing paths with Ace. The Marines considered Bai Yu for Admiral Candidate, and his crew headed to Loguetown to resupply.

• Bai Yu killed Treasure after rescuing Carina, then left Shimotsuki Island with Zoro and Carina for Cocoyasi Village.
• Bai Yu defeated Onigumo in a duel, while Nami returned to Cocoyasi Village and discovered that Arlong planned to cheat her.

Bai Yu defeated Golden Lion Shiki and Enel after surviving the floating island’s beasts, then returned to Marineford and challenged Akainu for the right to become an Admiral. His victory and apparent Dark-Dark Fruit power left the Marines stunned, while news of his nomination reached Whitebeard and his crew.

• Ipponmatsu gave Bai Yu Yubashiri and Sandai Kitetsu, then Bai Yu used his Haki to save Loguetown from Shiki’s beasts and accepted Shiki’s challenge.
• Bai Yu slaughtered the beasts and pirates on Shiki’s floating island, then defeated Shiki in a fierce sword fight and received Oto and Kogarashi.
• After the island fell into the White-White Sea, Bai Yu confronted Wyper and the Shandia, then challenged Enel and fought him aboard the Ark Maxim.
• Bai Yu used Dark Magic to defeat Enel, but both fighters disappeared in the explosion, leaving the Shandia and Gan Fall searching for them.
