Shin'un led Konoha forces back toward Orochimaru after Chiyo’s attack and faced Sunagakure’s giant puppets. He defeated a tiger-shaped puppet and uncovered the puppets’ optimal control positions before reaching Orochimaru’s camp.

• Shin'un fought through a major battle against Sand Ninja, killed a young Sunagakure jonin, and named his new technique Lightning Release: Miniature Lightning Spear.
• Shin'un reunited his force with Nara Shikahito’s, learned that Chiyo’s surprise attack had devastated Orochimaru’s unit, and was ordered to return and support the survivors.
• Shin'un led hundreds of Konoha ninja toward Orochimaru’s front and found a tiger-shaped giant puppet overwhelming a smaller Konoha force.
• Shin'un protected his subordinates by clashing with the puppet’s claws, then damaged its forepaw with Lightning Release: Great Lightning Spear.

Shin'un destroyed the Sand Ninja’s fortress puppet and helped release the One-Tail, then took command of Konoha’s forces as they moved to trap Sunagakure. The Sand Ninja launched a desperate breakout, leaving Orochimaru, White Fang, and the Third Kazekage caught inside a barrier.

• Orochimaru explained that Konoha had two months to defeat the Sand Ninja and asked Shin'un to help destroy their fortress puppet with natural lightning.
• Shin'un used a storm to devastate the fortress puppet, but Granny Chiyo emerged in the Valkyrie Puppet and fled toward the battlefield.
• Shin'un and Orochimaru damaged the Valkyrie Puppet’s seal, freeing the One-Tail and forcing the Sand Ninja to face the rampaging beast.
• After Nara Shikahito proposed trapping the Sand Ninja and cutting off their supplies, Shin'un became commander and worked with Shikaku to carry out the plan.
• Shin'un led attacks on Sand Ninja outposts while Nara Shikahito cut off their supplies and retreat routes, leaving Sunagakure isolated with few troops and puppets.
• Chiyo arranged a breakout toward the Land of Wind while two thousand Sand Ninja withdrew, coordinating an attack with the Third Kazekage.
• Chiyo sent the Chikamatsu Ten Puppets through Konoha’s forces as the Third Kazekage attacked, but Orochimaru and White Fang struck back and sent him falling.
• Konoha Anbu surrounded the falling Third Kazekage, Orochimaru, and White Fang, then formed the Red Yang Formation barrier.

Shin'un helped Konoha secure Sunagakure’s surrender and negotiate reparations, then discovered that the Giant Puppet Prototype came from another world. Back in Konoha, he joined the Anbu and became concerned about a strange airborne illness spreading through the village.

• Chiyo’s desperate attack failed to break the crimson barrier, and the Third Kazekage escaped after Chiyo died, and he then surrendered the remaining Sand Ninja and fled with Chiyo’s body.
• Shin'un proposed Shimura Danzō to enforce Konoha’s prisoner policy, and Danzō arrived with Root to guard the captives while Konoha and Sunagakure prepared postwar negotiations.
• Nara Shikahito demanded reparations from Sunagakure, including supplies, techniques, missions, hostages, and the Giant Puppet Prototype, while Shin'un learned the prototype was tied to a mysterious crater.
• Sunagakure delivered supplies and the prototype’s components, and Shin'un recognized inscriptions that identified it as Gipsy Danger from another world.
• After the prisoner exchange, Shin'un returned to Konoha and noticed coughing travelers in a Land of Hot Water caravan as reports emerged of illness among village ninja.
• Hiruzen Sarutobi offered Shin'un and Uchiha Yūichi places in the Anbu, and both agreed to join.
• Tsunade warned Shin'un that a strange disease was spreading through the air, while Hiruzen delayed a decision about locking down Konoha and gave Shin'un a copy of the Chakra Sensing Technique.
