Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
White-ribbon state 224 Mad Enhancement is inactive; her mind is stable.
Black-ribbon combat state 224 226 Activating her Astral Dress changes her ribbons to black. Strength and flame output increase, with greater magical-energy consumption.
Intensifying Mad Enhancement 237 238 239 Prolonged fighting against Gorgon produces mounting battle lust, eventually overwhelming her restraint as she deploys Megiddo. No exact rank is stated.
Return to white-ribbon state 240 Tomoe Gozen calms her after Merlin interrupts the battle; her Astral Dress disappears and clear reasoning returns.
Renewed escalation against Typhon 257 259 261 After reactivating combat mode, her strength and speed continually rise. Typhon must increase her dragon transformation to keep pace; Kotori eventually ignores Tiamat to concentrate on their duel.

Background

Kotori retains memories of an adult previous life in which she knew the setting through anime and games. Despite considering herself mentally older than her appearance, she acknowledges having lived a sheltered life without hunger, catastrophic loss, or the experience of choosing to fight despite certain death 224 227.

She has undergone repeated summonings since first being drawn into a Holy Grail War as a Spirit. Mayuri is explicitly another of her Spirit forms: in that form, she was summoned to Singularity Zero, contracted with Olga Marie, and returned to Chaldea 223 242.

Her knowledge of the Seventh Singularity is incomplete. She remembers its eventual resolution and several characters’ identities, but not precisely when Chaldea should arrive or how every remembered death occurred 224 227 242.

Appearance

  • Shared features: Petite build, crimson eyes, and deep-red hair tied into twin tails 223 224 230.
  • Everyday appearance: White ribbons, a white short-sleeved sailor blouse, and a navy-blue middle school skirt 224.
  • Combat appearance: Black ribbons, white horn-shaped head ornaments, and the crimson, celestial robe-style Astral Dress: Elohim Gibor 224 226.
  • Visible demeanor: Her white-ribbon appearance is gentle and unassuming; her black-ribbon state gives her a colder, more intimidating bearing 224 225.

Personality

Kotori initially treats Uruk’s crisis as someone else’s responsibility. She expects Ritsuka Fujimaru to repair the Singularity and questions why ordinary soldiers keep fighting when their deaths seem unable to change the outcome. Her refusal to support Gilgamesh is also personal: she cannot forgive his future counterpart’s brutal killing of Illya 224 227 228.

Around Tomoe Gozen, she is cooperative but reluctant to admit affection. She follows household routines, helps with food preparation despite protesting that she does not need to learn, and disguises concern for Tomoe as anxiety over losing the person who cooks her meals 227 231. By Chaldea’s arrival, she privately considers Tomoe’s safety more important than the Singularity’s fate 242.

She dislikes crowds, unsolicited attention, and public displays of affection. Uruk’s enthusiastic gratitude drives her indoors, while Tomoe’s embraces leave her intensely embarrassed 232 233 240. In battle, however, prolonged Mad Enhancement turns her reserve into an increasingly reckless hunger for stronger opposition 237 238 261.

Mad Enhancement and Dual-Mode Switching

Mad Enhancement: C–A increases with time spent fighting rather than immediately stripping away reason. Dual-Mode Switching: B governs her white- and black-ribbon forms 224.

  • White ribbons: Mad Enhancement is inactive, leaving her mentally stable; the separate effects of the white form are otherwise listed as unknown 224.
  • Black ribbons: Increase strength and flame power at a higher magical-energy cost 224.
  • Sustained combat: Raises her physical performance while narrowing her attention toward the opponent 259 261.
  • Interruption: Tomoe’s presence can reach her even during a rampage. She stops charging her cannon before an illusory Tomoe despite recognizing it as false, then calms when the real Tomoe embraces her 240.
  • Pain remains effective: Having her Spirit Core shattered briefly restores some clarity, although her frenzy soon reasserts itself 264.

Authority of Flame

Authority of Flame: A controls flames capable of directly eroding spiritual bodies 224.

  • Constructs weapons and defensive flame barriers 224.
  • Incinerates surrounding demonic beasts and destroys incoming attacks 230 237.
  • Disperses and absorbs shock waves, shielding others from clashes between divine weapons 247 258.
  • Inflicts persistent burns: Gorgon remains unable to heal the charred wounds Kotori leaves behind 255.

Flames of Regeneration

An inherent property of her flames, not magecraft, capable of restoring both herself and others 231.

  • Completely heals Tomoe’s severe internal and external injuries 231.
  • Treats numerous wounded soldiers simultaneously through precisely directed fireballs, including regenerating lost arms 232.
  • Repairs Kotori’s body and damaged Astral Dress in less than a second after Gorgon’s Noble Phantasm 238.
  • Rebuilds vaporized tissue and even a shattered Spirit Core, restoring her completely within one second after Typhon’s attack 263 264.
  • Can be left inside another person as reserve healing. The flames placed in Tomoe also protect her from Bloodfort Andromeda’s corrosion 231 235.
  • Maintains a faint connection between Kotori and the recipient, allowing Kotori to locate Tomoe on her return toward Uruk 266.

Camael

Property Details
Nature Kotori’s exclusive Angel armament 224
Rank EX 224
Type Anti-Personnel / Anti-Army / Anti-Fortress 224
Forms Battle-axe; cannon configuration, Megiddo 224
  • Battle-axe: A giant weapon with a black haft and red blade, longer than Kotori is tall. Supports close combat, ranged flame blades, and flame defenses 224 230.
  • Megiddo: Encloses her right arm in a black metal cannon and fires highly compressed flames, producing a large explosion and sustained burning 224 239.
  • Demonstrated firepower: Blasts Gorgon apart at the waist and pushes the continent-threatening energy of Ishtar and Typhon’s clash beyond Earth before it detonates 240 258.
  • Limit: Its shot cancels only a small portion of one beam from Typhon’s Dragon’s Chalice of Void Return 263.

Astral Dress: Elohim Gibor

An A-rank, self-targeting Noble Phantasm that serves as her combat attire 224.

  • Withstands lesser attacks from Gorgon without visible damage 237.
  • Absorbs much of the impact from Kingu’s earthen spikes 238.
  • Can be penetrated by sufficiently powerful attacks, including Gorgon’s Noble Phantasm and Typhon’s dragon breath 238 261.
  • Is restored alongside her body by the Flames of Regeneration 238 264.

Resistance and Mobility

  • Magic Resistance: A: Nullifies magecraft using incantations of three verses or fewer and reduces damage from higher-level magecraft 224.
  • No Divinity: Kingu’s Chains of Heaven gain no anti-divine binding advantage against her; she breaks the chains through force 237.
  • Resistance to conceptual rewriting: Typhon’s existence-rewriting Authority has no effect on Kotori, although the beams’ physical damage destroys most of her body and shatters her Spirit Core 263.
  • Unaided flight: Flies and hovers without a mount or a separate transportation Noble Phantasm 226 258.
  • Battlefield Command: B: Analyzes opponents’ combat habits and openings 224.
  • Exceptional strength: Drives Gorgon’s enormous body backward by over a hundred meters and similarly knocks Typhon away with an axe strike 237 259.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Summoning and Life with Tomoe

Gilgamesh summons Kotori alongside six other Servants to defend Uruk against the Three Goddess Alliance. His Clairvoyance cannot reveal her origins or future. Kotori calls him “Goldie,” blames him for Uruk’s danger, and refuses his request; Siduri’s intervention helps prevent their confrontation from becoming violent 223 224.

Without money or lodging, Kotori accepts Tomoe Gozen’s hospitality. She settles into a routine of shared meals and watching Tomoe’s shifts on the northern wall without joining the fighting 225 226 227.

Kitablil’s Defeat and Uruk’s Gratitude

Kotori intervenes when the scorpion commander threatens Tomoe, blocks its attack, and kills it with a flaming axe slash. She then heals Tomoe and, at her request, the wounded soldiers 230 231 232.

The victory makes her a local celebrity. Crowds and an awkward clay statue prompt her to become a shut-in; later, increasingly bizarre statues provoke an attempt to smash them, which Tomoe stops 233 242.

Battle Against Gorgon and Kingu

Gorgon targets Kotori in retaliation for Kitablil’s death. After Gorgon dismisses her true name as false, Kotori orders the other Servants to retreat and fights her directly, overpowering her physically despite Kingu’s assistance 235 236 237.

Kotori survives Forced Seal: Pandemonium, regenerates, and uses Megiddo to grievously wound Gorgon. Merlin interrupts her next shot because killing Gorgon would awaken Tiamat prematurely. Kingu escapes with Gorgon while Tomoe brings Kotori out of her frenzy 238 239 240 241.

Chaldea’s Arrival and the Eridu Delegation

Kotori avoids Ritsuka and Mash to keep her connection to Mayuri hidden and stay out of Chaldea’s affairs. Fou’s attraction to her and the resemblance between her Spirit Origin and Mayuri’s nevertheless arouse Ritsuka’s suspicions 242 243 251.

She joins the mission to Eridu after learning that Tomoe will be away for several days, insisting that she cannot cook for herself. During Quetzalcoatl’s challenge, she remains a spectator until Ritsuka requests help reaching the goddess; Kotori obliges by throwing her across the battlefield 251 252.

Typhon, Tiamat, and Return to Uruk

At Gorgon’s temple, Kotori counters Typhon’s attack and shields the party from the resulting explosion. Concerned that further bombardments could kill Tomoe, she switches to close combat; the duel eventually moves over the ocean 257 258 259 261.

Tiamat’s awakening turns the encounter into a three-way battle. Typhon’s Dragon’s Chalice of Void Return fails to conceptually erase Kotori but destroys most of her body and her Spirit Core, all of which regenerate 261 263 264.

After Zeus destroys Typhon, Kotori flies back to Uruk while Tiamat and her Lahmu follow toward the continent. Finding her room empty, she locates Tomoe through the healing flames left inside her, confirms that she is returning, and heads to the northern wall 265 266.

Relationships

  • Tomoe Gozen — Housemate, caretaker, and closest companion in Uruk. Provides meals and lodging, draws out Kotori’s concern for others, and can calm her battle frenzy. Kotori repeatedly prioritizes her safety 225 231 232 240 242 259.
  • Gilgamesh — Summoner and object of lasting hostility. Kotori holds his existence responsible for a future counterpart’s killing of Illya; he acknowledges that act but attributes it to his corrupted tyrant self 223 228.
  • Illya — The victim whose blinding and heart removal underpin Kotori’s hatred of Gilgamesh 228.
  • Ritsuka Fujimaru — An initially unwanted acquaintance who enthusiastically seeks her friendship. Kotori becomes willing to offer limited help after Ritsuka respects her distance during the journey to Eridu 248 250 251 252.
  • Fou — Recognizes an aura resembling Mayuri’s and repeatedly approaches her. Kotori enjoys petting him but conceals her familiarity with Chaldea 243 247.
  • Gorgon — Enemy who seeks revenge for Kitablil. Mistakes Kotori for a Far Eastern fire deity, provoking her further by rejecting her name 235 236.
  • Merlin — Prevents Kotori from killing Gorgon through an Avalon illusion, buying time for Tomoe to stop her 240.
  • Typhon — Rival whose increasingly powerful transformations match Kotori’s escalating Mad Enhancement. Their duel ends only when Zeus destroys Typhon 259 261 264 265.
