Background

Before becoming a Heroic Spirit, she remembers being hardworking and earnest, believing that effort would bring success. Repeated disappointment and exhaustion gradually left her unable to muster enthusiasm for most things. Her preference for resting and resolving battles quickly predates her manifestation as Mukuro 102.

Upon her summoning by Caules, the narration identifies her as “Mayuri—no, Mukuro Hoshimiya now.” She immediately recognizes that she has acquired another unfamiliar body and checks its Spirit Origin. She retains knowledge of other Servants, although her memories of the Great Holy Grail War’s events are hazy 84 88.

Nature as Tiphereth

Metatron identifies Mukuro’s core as Tiphereth, the sixth sephirah, whose functions are harmonization, balance, and beautification. Situated at the Tree of Life’s center, it connects the upper three sephiroth to the lower four. Michael’s angelic authority acts as its protective outer layer; together, that authority and the conceptual core constitute her complete Spirit Origin 123.

Metatron warns that Tiphereth’s absence threatens the stability of countless universes built upon the Tree of Life system. Mukuro initially resists accepting this responsibility, having wanted only an ordinary modern life with good food, anime, and games 129.

Appearance

• Normal form: A 148-centimeter girl with amber-gold eyes and exceptionally long golden curls that nearly reach the floor. Her pinkish-purple qipao bears faintly glowing star patterns, accompanied by a bunny-ear headpiece 84 86.
• Casual clothing: Wears a white hoodie and navy-blue pleated skirt while visiting Trifas 109.
• Shifuru form: Her clothing becomes a streamlined black-and-red combat Astral Dress, while Michael changes from a key-shaped staff into a matching long-handled halberd 116.
• Inverted form: Gains deep crimson eyes, goat horns, a purplish-black Astral Dress, chains around her arms, and a chest-mounted clock ornament that turns counterclockwise 118.

Personality

Mukuro is languid, food-loving, and protective of her leisure. She prefers sitting to standing and lying down to either, and normally treats combat as an interruption to finish as efficiently as possible. Her ideal day involves good weather, snacks, and no fighting or Command Spells 102 111.

She dislikes being treated as a sacred figure. After Michael’s name frightens much of the Black Faction into excessive deference, she misses their earlier, more lively behavior. She particularly appreciates that Astolfo and Heracles continue treating her naturally 97.

Her casual manner coexists with affection and restraint. She shares food with her companions and hesitates to use cruel methods against Jack because of her childlike appearance. Nevertheless, she is willing to kill threats such as Avicebron 105 108 111.

When confronted with unwanted obligations, she can become evasive and embarrassed. She flees Metatron’s explanation of her cosmic role, then insists that even if she must return, she should leave with dignity. Atalanta’s concern for the children helps her acknowledge that Earth needs saving 129 130 131.

Michael — The Sealing Key

Michael is Mukuro’s personal Angel and an EX-rank Noble Phantasm, normally manifested as a key-shaped staff taller than its wielder. Its conceptual authorities let her manipulate space, close abilities, and release restrictions 84 85 86 94.

• Can be summoned at miniature size to counter an incoming Command Spell 101.
• Can extend through spatial gates to affect distant targets without Mukuro entering the battlefield 91 98.
• Its True Name Release suppresses Akhilleus Kosmos at the conceptual level rather than overpowering it through destructive force 93.

Segva — Spatial Gates and Conceptual Sealing

Segva opens passages and closes selected targets, including abilities, skills, memories, and spatial connections 86 87 98 146.

• Transportation: Opens gates to places she has visited or whose coordinates she knows precisely. She reports no encountered distance limit, while acknowledging that she has not fully tested its boundaries 86.

• Can be withdrawn by Mukuro, as demonstrated when she removes Heracles’s enhancement during his forced attack 114.

Great Holy Grail War

Summoned through Caules’s golden-hair catalyst as Archer of Black, Mukuro becomes one of Yggdmillennia’s most versatile assets. Her transportation, enhancement, and sealing abilities exceed Darnic’s expectations of the Archer class. His investigation finds no historical records or legends under her name 84 86 92.

Her sealing of Akhilleus Kosmos leads both factions to suspect that she is the Archangel Michael, despite her repeated denials. She subsequently protects Millennia Fortress from Karna’s attack, disables the Hanging Gardens’ flight, and eliminates the traitorous Avicebron 93 94 97 98 108.

Jeanne’s Revelation identifies her as the war’s greatest problem. After Mukuro refuses to abandon her wish for a physical body, Jeanne arranges to cooperate with the Red Faction against her. Jeanne later compels Heracles to attack alongside Karna and Achilles; the ensuing battle culminates in Michael’s sealing and Mukuro’s inversion 100 101 102 114 117.

Belphegor’s Dream

Chaldea searches for Mukuro within the dream while her body drifts in space. Her continuing attachment to Astolfo and Atalanta provides evidence that her will survives beneath Belphegor’s behavior 124 126.

Mukuro unexpectedly encounters the search party at a restaurant. Initially content with the dream, she flees after Metatron explains her identity and responsibilities. She later consults Belphegor and offers two solutions: refill the Greater Grail to restore Earth, or materialize the dream as a replacement world 128 129 130 131.

When the factions clash over those proposals, she establishes a three-on-three Dream Holy Grail War. The victors will choose the salvation plan and receive one reasonable request. Atalanta, Karna, and Heracles face Metatron, Mash, and Arcueid on a dream-created lunar battlefield 134 135.

New World and Departure

The dream world is materialized. Mukuro appoints Gaia, Alaya, and Amakusa Shirou Tokisada as administrators, giving them mutual oversight and the ability to report to her. Their roles represent the planet’s will, humanity’s collective unconscious, and humanity’s ideals 145.

After restoring her angelic form, she seals Chaldea’s memories of the incident, returns Ritsuka, Mash, and Merlin, closes the damaged interworld routes, and frees Laeticia from Jeanne and Metatron. She sends Heracles to the Fifth Holy Grail War to reunite with his Master 146.

Before departing, she preserves only the administrators’, Atalanta’s, and Astolfo’s memories of herself. She leaves her two friends contact keys, assures Atalanta that the children and kindergarten will remain safe, and uses Lataib to return to her own world 146.
