Background / History
Historical Records
According to records cited by Dean Chen, an ancient Kui Bull once fought a Sea-Opening Realm expert near Sword Capital. The expert died, while the beast suffered grave injuries and disappeared. Later sightings of Thunder Bulls prompted speculation that it was hiding in Ink Abyss Forest, but the theory faded because their numbers remained small 19.
Attack on Sword Capital
The Extreme Realm announced that an ancient Kui Bull in Ink Abyss Forest had spawned over ten thousand Thunder Bulls, mostly second- or third-tier. It assigned Lin Tian and Ziwei to kill one thousand within six hours 16.
As the herd advanced toward Sword Capital, Ziwei reasoned that its slaughter would supply the blood Qi needed for a Kui Bull’s full awakening. Dean Chen independently suspected that the historical beast needed human blood Qi to recover from its old injuries 19 20.
The first Kui Bull shattered the city’s protective formation and walls, opening a route for the Thunder Bulls. Dean Chen and dozens of sword cultivators struggled to hold it back until Li Shangjue arrived and wounded it 20 21 22.
Lin Tian suspected that the already-active beast concealed the presence of another Kui Bull. His suspicion proved correct when a larger individual erupted beneath Sword Capital, collapsing buildings and killing more than ten thousand people with its emerging pressure alone. The first beast exploited Li Shangjue’s distraction to strike him, after which both attacked him together 22 23.
Aftermath
The Azure Emperor later attributed two hundred thousand deaths in Sword Capital to the two Kui Bulls and stated that he had to join the campaign against the Wilderness. Lin Tian subsequently learned that the beasts had severely wounded Li Shangjue, destroyed the Azure Sword Stele, and escaped alive 27 35.
Appearance
- First attacker: Roughly ten meters tall, with a single leg and blue-green skin visible beneath its radiance 20.
- Radiance: Its body shines with the light of the sun and moon, illuminating Sword Capital like a blazing sun 20 22.
- Lightning: Countless bolts surround its body and can take the form of attacking serpents 21 22.
- Blood: Blue to deep-blue blood containing visible lightning 22 23.
- Second attacker: Larger than the first, emerging amid golden light and rolling thunder 22.
Abilities & Skills
Lightning Manipulation
- Releases lightning that forms serpents capable of blasting sword cultivators apart 21.
- Uses an electrical eruption to drive Dean Chen away 22.
- Numbs Li Shangjue with a lightning strike before following with a headbutt 22.
- Together, the two Kui Bulls unleash enough lightning to suppress Li Shangjue while he uses a sword formation 23.
Physical Strength and Durability
- Breaks Sword Capital’s defensive formation and towering walls in a single assault 20.
- Withstands the city defenders’ attacks without its hide being cut; Li Shangjue’s intervention finally draws blood 21 22.
- Produces bellows that generate destructive winds and waves of air 19.
- The second individual’s emergence fractures the ground across several kilometers and destroys surrounding buildings 22.
Thunder Bull Progeny
- Thunder Bulls are descendants bred by the Kui Bull; the Extreme Realm reports a population exceeding ten thousand 16 19.
- Most are second- or third-tier, though Xihe warns that those spawned by an ancient Kui Bull should be more dangerous than ordinary second-tier fierce beasts 16.
- Their attack on civilians is understood by Ziwei and Dean Chen as a means of gathering blood Qi for a Kui Bull’s revival or recovery 19 20.
Blood Essence and Spirit Essence
| Form | Properties |
|---|---|
| Blood essence | Improves a martial artist’s strength, aptitude, and physique. Consuming enough can produce a fierce beast manifestation 21. |
| Spirit essence | Worth hundreds or thousands of times as much as blood essence. A single drop guarantees a manifestation of substantially higher quality 24. |
Lin Tian’s Acquisition and Refinement
- Acquisition: Li Shangjue’s attack spills more than a dozen drops of lightning-bearing blood essence. While he is occupied by both beasts, Lin Tian collects every drop and wounds a rival claimant 22 23.
- Refinement: Lin Tian spends all three of his Advancement Jade Talismans to transform the blood essence into spirit essence. A roaring Kui Bull phantom appears within it 23 24.
- Physical transformation: Absorption expels impurities, renews his skin, and strengthens his physique. The released lightning remains painful despite his existing lightning power 23 24 25.
- Innate lightning talent: The Kui Bull’s thunder power merges with power taken from Thunder Bulls and penetrates Lin Tian’s marrow, gradually becoming an innate talent 25.
- Sword enhancement: His linked Heavenly Sword gains ten percent toughness during the initial transformation and ten percent attack damage when he breaks through the first level of the Sword Heart Body Refining Art 24 25.
- Continued cultivation: After ten days of absorption, Lin Tian reaches Mystic Core Eighth Layer. A Kui Bull image also becomes increasingly distinct on the Heavenly Sword’s blade 27.
- Completion: Lin Tian finishes absorbing the spirit essence by Chapter 30 and possesses the Kui Bull manifestation by Chapter 33 30 33.
Kui Bull Dharma Idol
Manifestation and Combat Uses
- Appears as a mountain-sized Kui Bull phantom blazing with golden light and lightning, resembling a second sun 47.
- Produces a golden-blue lightning pillar that annihilates incoming Bi Fang Divine Fire 47.
- Intercepts a giant palm and forms a lightning disc above Lin Tian to resist further flames 48.
- Its lightning collapses a mountainside, while its radiance disperses darkness for several thousand meters 48.
- Helps Lin Tian kill the Bi Fang Dharma Idol wielder and forces Su Rou’s surviving allies to retreat 48.
- Its solidity and power lead observers to conclude that ordinary blood essence alone could not have produced it 47 48 49.
Costs and Limits
- Continuously consumes Lin Tian’s Spiritual Qi and blood Qi while active 48.
- Can be pierced: an enemy arrow penetrates the phantom and draws lightning-like blood 48.
- Dismissing it leaves Lin Tian severely exhausted and unable to summon it again for a short period 48.
- After it dissipates, his blood Qi drains so sharply that he nearly falls and must recuperate 49.
