Background / History
Su Clan Succession
Su Nan is the eldest son of the Su Clan of Willow Capital. He uses a wheelchair and describes himself as disabled, but secretly possesses cultivation. His mother once told him that, if nobody else in the clan could be trusted, he could rely on Uncle Jian 34 35 39 40.
He competes against his younger brother and two younger sisters for the clan headship. Each candidate may bring ten retainers into the Fire Nether Forbidden Land; the candidate with the most surviving retainers wins. Although Su Nan initially says he is unwilling to let the position slip away, he later explains that he never wanted the struggle and that his father forced his hand 35 39.
Recruiting Lin Tian and Ziwei
In Willow Capital, Lin Tian and Ziwei approach Su Nan under identities supplied by the Extreme Realm, claiming to belong to the Wenren Lineage. Su Nan initially rejects them because their Mystic Core cultivation appears insufficient for the forbidden land. He changes his assessment after recognizing Ziwei as a formation master and witnessing Lin Tian fight Uncle Jian, his nominally ninth-layer Void Insight elder 34 35.
Su Nan apologizes and offers each of them an earth-grade Mystic Spirit Grass. Having investigated the Wenren Clan and found no known lightning specialist, he asks them to reveal their identities. Lin Tian identifies himself as Zhenwu of the Extreme Realm, while Ziwei also reveals her affiliation. Su Nan keeps their identities private and continues introducing them publicly as Wenren Zhen and Wenren Zi 35 37.
Attacks Aboard the Immortal Ship
Before departing, Su Nan mediates a dispute between Lin Tian and Qi Liancheng. He warns his recruits that the succession contest has already begun and that attacks may occur before they reach the forbidden land 38.
Aboard the immortal ship, Lin Tian kills an assassin disguised as a maid. Su Nan removes her human-skin mask and identifies her as his younger brother’s Dao companion. When Qi Liancheng subsequently clashes with Lin Tian, Su Nan dismisses Qi from the expedition, publicly explaining that losing Lin Tian would also mean losing Ziwei 39.
Su Nan deliberately leaves his recruits dispersed to draw out assassins sent by his siblings. By the time the attacks end, only five of his original ten recruits remain: Lin Tian, Ziwei, Han Xianshu, Yu Xiu, and Li Xin 39 40.
During a private confrontation, Su Nan reveals that he has noticed Uncle Jian’s reduced cultivation. Uncle Jian admits lowering it to meet the contest’s third-layer Void Insight limit. Su Nan asks him to return to his side, but Uncle Jian instead threatens to kill him and his companions. Su Nan unleashes his concealed power and kills him, later telling the survivors that he believes Uncle Jian had defected to his younger brother 39 40.
Entering the Forbidden Land
After the attacks, Su Nan reveals that Han Xianshu is his Dao companion and distributes his entire supply of five Soul Palace Pills among the remaining group. He asks for their continued help and promises not to withhold rewards from those who remain beside him 41.
At the forbidden land, Su Rou openly threatens to kill him. When Su Ming demands an explanation for his wife’s death, Su Nan claims responsibility, but Qi Liancheng identifies Lin Tian as the actual killer 42.
Su Wushi publicly asks whether Su Nan now understands the clan’s brutal succession system. Despite a pained expression, Su Nan answers that he does. He subsequently leads his companions through the entrance, where spatial turbulence separates him and Ziwei from Lin Tian 43 44.
Personality
Su Nan is courteous and willing to acknowledge mistakes. After underestimating Lin Tian and Ziwei, he apologizes sincerely and offers valuable gifts. He also tells them that he does not expect them to die for him 35.
His attachment to trusted people survives considerable suspicion. Even after exposing Uncle Jian’s betrayal, he offers him another chance and recalls his mother’s faith in him. Uncle Jian calls him too kindhearted to become clan head, while Su Nan’s grief centers on losing the last person he believed he could trust 39.
That kindness coexists with calculation. Su Nan investigates prospective allies, conceals his cultivation, protects Lin Tian’s identity, and uses the shipboard attacks to draw out enemy agents. He reserves his scarce Soul Palace Pills for the companions who remain after the initial losses and departures 35 37 39 41.
