Background / History
Captivity in Blood Town
Li Musheng deceived Ling Qiuzi into accompanying him on a sect mission and brought her to Blood Town two months before she met Lin Tian. As one of the Joyous Immortal Sect’s ten great inner disciples and the son of a supreme elder, he occupied a position far above hers 7.
The Moon God Pill’s poison erupted monthly and could only be suppressed—not removed—by a subsidiary pill, commonly called a Sub-Pill. Too weak to compete successfully for the limited supply, Ling Qiuzi developed black spots across her skin as the poison spread. She initially cultivated diligently, but abandoned the effort after the poison made progress increasingly difficult 7 8 24.
Senior Brother Li’s Assault
Senior Brother Li offered her a Sub-Pill in exchange for intimacy. After learning that his dual-cultivation companion, Senior Sister Gu, had died competing for a pill, Ling Qiuzi firmly refused him. He attacked her, crushed her right shoulder, and attempted to drag her away 8.
Ling Qiuzi called for Lin Tian’s help, hoping to make the two men fight so she could escape. Instead, Senior Brother Li bound her with spiritual power and carried her into the forest while pursuing Lin Tian. Lin Tian eventually killed him with One Sword to the Ends of the Earth. Left beside the corpse, Ling Qiuzi found and swallowed his Sub-Pill, immediately ending her poison-induced agony 9.
Life in Lin Tian’s Courtyard
Ling Qiuzi began preparing Lin Tian’s meals and maintaining the household. She also shared what she knew about Blood Town, including its farmland, the rapid draining of corpses’ blood Qi, and Hongyu’s practice of offering protection and pills to male favorites 10.
She took in Qingcheng and sheltered her in her room. When five men tried to seize the courtyard and demanded that Ling Qiuzi remain behind, Lin Tian crippled them. Ling Qiuzi later sewed him a white robe to replace his worn clothing 12 13 14.
A mysterious white mask subsequently arrived directly in Ling Qiuzi’s hand. Only she could see it, although the Heavenly Sword detected its presence and Lin Tian could touch it. Lin Tian took the mask in exchange for a promise to obtain her monthly Sub-Pill, adding that he would secure more for Qingcheng if circumstances allowed. The mask later enabled him to enter the Extreme Realm as Zhenwu 15 16.
Seclusion and the Sub-Pill Scramble
During Lin Tian’s seclusion, Ling Qiuzi tried to prevent Young Master Bai from disturbing him. Bai kicked her aside and entered with his companions. After Lin Tian killed Qingcheng’s captor and maimed the other intruders, he gave Ling Qiuzi a Body-Healing Pill for her injuries 24 26.
When the next pill distribution approached, she feared that Lin Tian’s continued seclusion would leave Qingcheng without a means to survive. Lin Tian lent her the Heavenly Sword, promising that it could act on their behalf. Unable to hold it directly, she respectfully negotiated permission to wrap it in cloth and carry it in a basket 29.
Ling Qiuzi obtained one scattered Sub-Pill but continued fighting because she wanted pills for Qingcheng and Lin Tian as well. A stronger cultivator injured her, and Liu Xiu drew the crowd’s attention to her unconsumed pill. An eerie little girl then seized her and immobilized her with a blood-red gaze. The Heavenly Sword severed the girl’s arm, saving Ling Qiuzi before Lin Tian arrived, collected additional pills, and returned with her 30 31.
Appearance
- Build and complexion: A graceful figure, fair skin, slender hands, and delicate brows 8 10 14.
- Clothing: Frequently wears red, including a thin gauze skirt 7 14.
- Poison symptoms: Black spots cover her skin, while fine black lines spread up her neck during a severe outbreak. Her complexion improves after taking a Sub-Pill 8 9 10.
Personality
Blood Town makes Ling Qiuzi fearful and pragmatic. She considers escaping but recognizes that she has nowhere to go, and she initially tries to use a confrontation between Lin Tian and Senior Brother Li as an opportunity to flee. Nevertheless, she refuses to surrender herself to Senior Brother Li even when the offered pill could save her life 7 8 9.
Her care for Qingcheng repeatedly outweighs her concern for herself. She shelters and feeds the child, comforts her during Lin Tian’s cultivation, and enters the pill scramble knowing that Qingcheng cannot survive another outbreak without medicine 12 24 29.
Ling Qiuzi also preserves small comforts despite captivity. She gathers herbs, honey, and osmanthus blossoms to improve their meals. Lin Tian is surprised that she can take such care over daily life in a place as harsh as Blood Town 25 32.
Abilities & Skills
Swordsmanship
Ling Qiuzi learned a sword art for self-defense but does not qualify as a true sword cultivator 7.
- Nineteen Swords of Autumn Leaves: Uses thrusts and turning slashes accompanied by faint sword light and Sword Qi 30.
- Limitations: A stronger cultivator catches her blade barehanded and counters with a palm strike. Her limited strength also makes hunting Demon Pigs dangerous 12 30.
Cooking and Household Skills
- Prepares porridge, Demon Pig meat, vegetables, and osmanthus tea 10 32.
- Gathers herbs and honey to improve the available food 25 32.
- Sews Lin Tian a white robe and handles his laundry 14 15.
Knowledge of Blood Town
- Reports that corpses inside the formation rapidly become dried husks after losing their blood Qi 10.
- Tracks the declining monthly Sub-Pill allotment: fifty-two on her arrival, then fifty-one, then fifty 13.
- Explains the poison’s effects and the fatal consequences of failing to obtain a pill 8 13.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Personal longsword — Used for her self-defense sword art and during the Sub-Pill scramble 29 30.
- Spatial ring — Noticed by Lin Tian when she presents the hand-sewn robe; she had not worn it openly during their earlier days together 14.
- Sub-Pills — Suppress her monthly poison outbreaks without eliminating the underlying poison 8 9.
- White mask — A mysterious object initially visible only to her; transferred to Lin Tian in exchange for help obtaining pills 15.
- Heavenly Sword, temporarily entrusted — Carried in a cloth-lined basket. It rejects her attempt to grasp it and acts under Lin Tian’s control rather than becoming her weapon 29 30.
- Body-Healing Pill — Given by Lin Tian after Young Master Bai injures her 26.
Relationships
- Lin Tian — Protector and fellow resident. Her early fear develops into gratitude and a strong sense of security, though he remains guarded. She explicitly denies Liu Xiu’s claim that they have a sexual relationship 10 14 29 31.
- Qingcheng — A child she takes in and treats affectionately as a younger sister. Obtaining medicine for Qingcheng becomes one of her chief concerns 12 24 29.
- Li Musheng — Fellow sect member and captor. Her hatred of him deepens as the poison and confinement erode her prospects 7 8.
- Senior Brother Li — An unwanted pursuer who attempts to coerce her into intimacy and then assaults her after she refuses 8 9.
- Unnamed senior brother — Someone she longs to see again. When she believes she is about to die, his remembered figure gradually gives way to Lin Tian’s 8 30.
- Liu Xiu — A jealous antagonist who mocks her relationship with Lin Tian and exposes her to attackers during the pill scramble. Lin Tian later severs Liu Xiu’s limbs 29 30 31.
- Hongyu — Addressed by Ling Qiuzi as “Senior Sister.” Ling Qiuzi visibly trembles during their encounter, while Hongyu ignores her 31.
