The Last Night
In a secluded space in Salem, where no one could find him, was Raum's location. The place looked like a huge junkyard, with countless things piled up all around, forming a high mound.
These unidentified, ghostly things surrounded it, and viewed from above, it resembled a bird's nest. Calling it a bird's nest wouldn't be entirely wrong, because the creature's appearance was clearly that of a crow.
"I didn't expect there to be such a big problem. If we hadn't already completed six cycles, we probably would have failed by now." The raven spoke in human language, with a large map in front of it. It was a detailed map of Salem, with names written on it.
In Randolph Carter's house, surrounded by a dense array of English names, Raum stared at the names Abigail and Lavinia, which were pasted together, and sighed deeply.
"Ah... this body seems to have reached its limit, and the Singularity's energy is almost depleted. Tomorrow is the final battle, Abigail, Key to the Gate, please don't let me down."
"Goetia or those Faction of Jie, I will prove you right. I will show you that I am right."
Its eyes seemed to be gazing at a work of art, looking at the name on it— Abigail.
Inside Randolph Carter's mansion, the tempting aroma of food filled the dining table. Abigail's mouth watered as she watched Bai Mo slice off a whole roasted beef leg, the juicy meat filling wrapped in a tortilla with pickles, tomato sauce, and fries.
"So delicious~ Is this called shawarma? It tastes really good... It looks like it can sit for a while like a hot dog. Can I take this to the ship to eat?"
"Of course, there's plenty of meat."
Bai Mo sat back down in his chair, watching Abigail, who was eating with Lavinia and her mouth was dripping with oil, his eyes slightly narrowed. Not only him, but everyone else at the table fell silent, except for Mata Hari and Robin Hood, who kept the atmosphere light at the dinner table.
"Brother Bai, do you think Raum's imposter is Randolph?"
"Although I don't know why they chose this name, it's probably true. You've checked the Salem personnel list, and Randolph's name isn't on it, is it?"
Moreover, this uncle was the perfect person to get closer to Abigail.
Bai Mo answered Ritsuka in a low voice. Just now, Abigail, who had disappeared, suddenly appeared in the town of Salem, like a child who had gotten lost in an amusement park. She waited at the entrance for a while and then came back.
"So, Abigail, are you sure that was your uncle's decision?"
"Yeah, it's a bit sudden. Leaving Salem for Newport, but my uncle says it'll be better there. I'm a little reluctant, but there's nothing I can do..."
Besides, after something like this has happened, maybe going out for a walk would be better.
Abigail took the boat ticket from her bosom, saying that her uncle had approached her shortly after she left the theater and then informed her that they were about to leave Salem.
Under normal circumstances, leaving Salem for Newport would indeed be a good choice. But Bai Mo had already scouted the area and found that there was nothing outside the mist; it was simply a barrier.
"What is this, a challenge for the final battle?"
"Almost."
The personnel in Salem have been identified. As outsiders, the only ones are Hopkins' group, the Whateley Family, and Randolph Carter. Now, by process of elimination, we have already pinpointed Raum's true identity.
"After all, maintaining the barrier is becoming increasingly difficult. At this rate, it will likely disappear by the day after tomorrow at the latest. Using tomorrow for the final battle is indeed the last chance."
Circe nodded in agreement. If they delayed until the day after tomorrow, they might run into a shortage of magic power, since maintaining such a large barrier was quite strenuous.
"Get a good rest tonight."
At night, Bai Mo sat on the roof of Randolph Carter's house, overlooking the entire town of Salem. The ghoul corpses on the road had mostly disappeared, and there were no people left. The whole town was incredibly quiet.
"Leave the night watch to the familiar, you should also take a rest."
Circe leaned out of the window and looked at Bai Mo. The suppressed power had clearly weakened. Although he still couldn't unleash his full strength, it was enough for reconnaissance.
"I don't need to sleep, you should get some rest."
"Is it possible that I can't sleep even if you're awake right now? Don't make me worry, Carter's room just happened to become available."
Hearing Circe's words, Bai Mo nodded and casually wrote a few Runes on the window. Back in his room, there was a cup of hot barley tea on Carter's bedside table. Bai Mo sat on the edge of the bed with the tea in his hand, closing his eyes and meditating.
Perception remained elusive; it seemed that even though Raum was on the verge of starvation, it was determined to limit its senses. In this light, Bai Mo's arrival here had inadvertently incurred a significant drain on its resources.
Knock, knock, knock. Two petite figures walked in. Abigail carried Yog and led Lavinia by the hand into the room.
Is there something you need?
"Well, Lavinia seems to be having trouble sleeping; something's not right..."
"Abby, don't say that. It's just that your bed is too small. Mr. Bai Mo, can I borrow half of your bed?"
Lavinia's eyes held a different meaning. Bai Mo nodded, and then Abigail also stayed there under the pretext of a late-night chat.
For her, tomorrow would be her departure, and this might be her last night with her friend. The two talked for a long time, with Abby doing most of the talking. Neither of them had any aversion to Bai Mo, so they chatted happily.
Not long after, seemingly exhausted, Abigail fell into a deep sleep on Randolph's bed. Lavinia, still with her eyes open, tiptoed to Bai Mo 'Bai Mo side and handed him a packet of powder.
"This is..."
"The recipe, made with my grandfather's ashes and some other things, was obtained by the Queen of Sheba, which I asked to do. With this, it will be impossible to hide."
The stage is a world where characters can appear. Once it loses the character of ' Abigail's uncle,' it is no longer part of the stage and can no longer mobilize any of the stage's resources.
This is... karma... for dragging my family into this."
