The abandoned capital
Bai Mo drew his knife, and the light blade on Melusine's wrist made a clicking sound, as if a bullet was being chambered. The undead assumed a fighting stance, as if determined to defend their territory to the death.
"The items are up there. My task as the sage Grimr was to bring you here. There are two things on there, one to be given to Chaldea, and the other to the Child of Prophecy."
As Grimr spoke, he turned his gaze to Artoria Caster and Morgan.
"Well, which chosen one of the Child of Prophecy it's given to is none of my business."
"There is only one Child of Prophecy here," Morgan said coldly. At the same time, Tristan's Demon String had already killed a ghost who had drawn his bow and was aiming at Ritsuka, as a signal to start the war.
"Aaaaaah--!"
But the instant the undead head fell to the ground, Tristan suddenly let out an indescribable wail. He clutched his head, veins bulging on his forehead. Ritsuka immediately crouched down to check on Tristan's condition.
"What's going on? Is it a psychological attack?"
Bai Mo sent out a calming force, but there was still no improvement. After a while, Tristan finally recovered, panting heavily.
"I'm sorry to have worried Master and everyone."
"What happened? Is it one of those enemies that inflicts a curse upon being killed?"
"It does take effect after being killed, but it's not a curse... If I had to say, I just saw the life of a fairy, and all his memories flooded into my mind."
Although most of the memories are repetitive, this sudden shock is a bit overwhelming.
"Just like that time with the Great Qin?" Bai Mo asked Ritsuka, while Morgan, who was standing to the side, focused his attention on the undead guards and then came to a conclusion.
"These guys have been infiltrated with remnants of the Mirror Clan's souls. No wonder I haven't seen a single vengeful spirit from the Mirror Clan; they've been used in this kind of place."
The Mirror Clan is born with the power of prophecy, but the power of prophecy varies; some see images of the past, while others are immersed in those past events.
This is absolutely man-made; someone used this power to cram such a massive amount of memory into the brain, creating a burden.
At this point, Morgan looked worried. The worst-case scenario was that someone would beat them to it and take the Clan Bell first. But along the way, Bai Mo and he had actually been quite discreet in their actions, and they had even replaced the original Earth Clan bell.
If only one person is gathering intelligence, then their purpose might not be discovered.
Meanwhile, Melusine's face was filled with anger. She clenched her fists. In the past, she had destroyed the Mirror Clan for Aurora's sake. Although most members of the Mirror Clan believed that death was inevitable, they were also fairy clans willing to atone for their sins, and most of them were willing to accept death.
But Melusine, the executioner, was not happy. The Mirror Clan was a shame she could not erase. She had thought that things would end like this and the Mirror Clan would rest in peace, but she never expected that someone would even tarnish that peace.
The murderous intent was growing ever stronger.
"Tsk, there are quite a few of these guys. What should we do? Should we share the load? Or..."
Grimr asked a question, but the next moment, Bai Mo whispered a few words, and a strange rune appeared in its eyes. Then, several cold lights flashed.
The Magnetic Field Heavenly Blade sliced through all the enemies before it, and wisps of faint black energy surged toward Bai Mo, then merged into his brow.
"Brother Bai!"
Ritsuka and the others were startled by Bai Mo's actions. Even Morgan and Melusine's hearts nearly stopped, but Bai Mo waved his hand to indicate that everything was alright.
"It's nothing, I've been in this situation before, and I already have a solution."
Among the crowd, Ritsuka breathed a sigh of relief first. Bai Mo had indeed encountered a similar situation in Great Qin. All of this discarded intelligence was stuffed into the mental abyss created by Abigail, and then thrown back when encountering the enemy.
Caster was somewhat amazed, but also a little worried. "It seems like you've encountered all sorts of strange situations, so you've come up with countermeasures for them. What kind of life did you lead before, Mr. Bai Mo?"
"Me?... Just an ordinary person living an insignificant life. Let's not talk about that, let's go up." As they spoke, the group stepped into the Bell Tower Hall, which is divided into two parts: the church and the bell tower. As soon as they entered, strands of silk threads, like a spider web, blocked their way.
Inside the church were three knights, whose silhouettes looked rather familiar.
"Hey, you redhead, isn't that you?"
Bavan pointed to the necromancer holding the bow, whose appearance was exactly the same as Tristan's. Moreover, Ritsuka recognized the other two at a glance: Gawain and Lancelot.
Tristan did not refute, but the three knights stepped forward and asked sternly:
Are you qualified to come forward?
"Whether we're qualified or not, we have to step forward." Bai Mo walked forward step by step, the Beginning and End in his hand gleaming coldly. Just when everyone thought a confrontation was about to take place, the sound of a staff striking the ground echoed in the empty hall.
Morgan stepped forward; she was still in Ash's form. Upon seeing her, the three undead knights sheathed their swords.
"It's surprising that it can still be recognized even though a foreign object has been inserted into it."
They stood motionless, like statues.
"Let's go. They're just afterimages, but they've likely been injected with something else. The guy who set this up is a really twisted bastard. Let's try to avoid fighting."
Bai Mo nodded; it would be best to avoid a battle if possible.
Morgan said nothing, but everyone except the naturally gifted Bavan Sheehan guessed what was going on. From the moment they entered Orkney, Morgan knew the roads like the back of his hand, as if he were walking in his own garden.
Moreover, when the topic of the Rain Clan came up, she clearly knew a great deal about them, and now she acted as if she were a princess returning home.
"Let's go. Perhaps something else awaits us up there. I'm quite curious what's up there that these knights are assigned here."
Morgan walked up the steps with a hint of mockery, while on the outskirts of Orkney, two figures stood at the edge of the Sea at the End.
"It's a pity, it seems you haven't fulfilled your purpose at all, Beryl. I truly pity those remnant souls of the Mirror Clan."
The other man, dressed in red, was naturally Beryl. Realizing that his setup was only one step away from completion, his face also looked quite grim.
"This makes absolutely no sense. What do you mean by 'having encountered this situation before'? Where did this guy even come from? Is he Marisbury's backup plan? Or did some supreme god personally intervene?"
Beryl felt like he had seen a ghost. He had already exhausted the remnant soul of the Mirror Clan, thinking that he should either put everyone under mental pressure or have his junior give up on someone.
However, it didn't achieve anything and was resolved very easily.
"Sigh, it seems like the memories have been erased and the remnant soul has been released. But with the fairy's remnant soul's memories being damaged like this, it's no different from disappearing."
Beryl, what are you planning to do next?
"What you're saying is... Now it'll depend on your methods, Mr. Dream Oberon. Although I'm only going to give you a heads-up, if you can hold off Morgan and Bai Mo, then the rest can be taken care of."
"I can assure you about the dream, but you'll have to take responsibility for the accident with Melusine. I can't handle that guy."
Oberon, dressed in pure white, looked at the butterfly on his finger, but a hint of coldness flashed in his eyes.
This guy is completely planning to use up those pitiful Mirror Clan and then throw them away... Honestly, it would be one thing if it were other fairies, but for fairies who have already made atonement, treating them like this is a bit too much.
This team is absolutely terrible.
