Background
Zhu Lianqing is a professional mission-taker who enters secondary worlds created from books, paintings, games, and similar works. Her assignments involve intervening before villains turn destructive, healing their childhood trauma, and reducing the worlds’ resentment values. Unchecked resentment can allow a villain to gain independent consciousness and threaten the primary world 1.
In this world, she undertook the “Yandere Disciple Rescue Plan” and accepted Xie Lingchuan as her only disciple. His original storyline involved an abusive master who coveted his spiritual root and arranged his sacrifice to a sword. He would subsequently awaken his demonic bones, devastate the cultivation world, and kill himself. Under Zhu Lianqing’s guidance, he avoided being sacrificed at sixteen and instead became a promising sword cultivator 1.
Upon joining the Luoyu Sword Sect, she bowed directly to its founding patriarch’s portrait rather than accepting a living sect leader as her master. She established her own branch and became Evergreen Peak’s lord. Her swordsmanship earned her recognition as the cultivation world’s foremost sword cultivator 1 38.
To leave the mission world, she arranged a public death within an inner-demon illusion. Her original body genuinely died, but the return portal failed. System 191 placed her soul in the Heavenly Silkworm Cave and reconstructed a replacement body over two years. With portal repairs originally estimated to require at least five years, she adopted the name Wang Xianren and set out to enjoy her remaining stay anonymously 1 2.
Appearance
Reconstructed Body
Her replacement body was deliberately made dramatically different from her original appearance so that acquaintances would not recognize her 1.
- Build: Approximately her former height, but scrawny and frail-looking, with slightly darker skin 1.
- Face: Monolids and upturned eyes; an ordinary, easily forgotten appearance that she considers ideal for concealment 1.
- Clothing: A smoky-gray, long-sleeved outer robe over a white inner robe, accompanied by a matching veiled hat. She weaves these from heavenly silkworm silk using spiritual power 1.
Original Body
- Features: Raven-black hair, snow-white skin, and exceptional beauty 6 31.
- Usual dress: Favored green and blue robes while living at the sect 1.
- Dream appearance: Appears pale and motionless in an opulent palace, wearing red lip rouge and elaborate clothing and ornaments. Zhu Lianqing states that she never dressed this way herself 31.
Personality
Zhu Lianqing’s aloof reputation contrasts sharply with her private behavior. At the sect, she maintained the bearing of a detached expert; as Wang Xianren, she jokes freely, follows gossip, drinks, and enjoys sightseeing. Her supposed indifference to romance partly resulted from keeping her interest in other people’s love affairs to herself 1 4 13.
She is practiced at improvising believable cover stories. She invents explanations for her wealth, lack of equipment, apparent weakness, and suspicious actions without visibly losing composure. Nevertheless, Xie Lingchuan’s close attention repeatedly exposes inconsistencies in her disguise 2 7 8 24.
Despite insisting that her former disciple is no longer her responsibility, she remains instinctively protective. She secretly assists him in battle, takes his inferior fruit so that he will eat a better one, and risks entering his inner-demon illusion to save him. She also recognizes mistakes in her teaching: after upsetting him by pushing him to socialize, she apologizes and stops trying to change his quiet disposition 1 7 10 41 43.
Her actual moral teaching distinguishes wickedness from species: humans and demons alike can be good or evil. Her later declaration that all demons should be killed is a deliberate attempt to make Wang Xianren seem unlike Immortal Master Zhu, not an expression of her genuine beliefs 20.
She treats romantic involvement with her disciple as unacceptable. When others mistake them for Dao companions, she objects but cannot explain her real reason without exposing her identity 37.
Abilities & Skills
Swordsmanship
Formerly revered as the foremost practitioner of the sword, Zhu Lianqing genuinely loves swordsmanship and spent her original life using it against evil demons 1 25.
- Taught Xie Lingchuan sword techniques and formation-breaking principles; she recognizes when he independently develops an advanced version of a method she taught him 18.
- Cuts the Yesheng Flower from its vine with a borrowed sword 41 48.
- Flies on Jiang Tingxue’s sword while carrying her toward Pingjiang City 48.
- Avoids displaying her distinctive techniques because they could reveal her identity 1.
- Recognizes Ten Thousand Swords Return to the Origin and Autumn Water’s sword force in Xie Lingchuan’s illusion. Her estimate of “at least late Nascent Soul” concerns the illusion’s version of herself, not a confirmed realm for her current body 42.
Spiritual Power and Formations
She retains substantial non-sword combat abilities despite her weak-looking body.
- Creates an array that traps and grinds a corpse-eating demon to pieces 6.
- Summons wooden chopsticks into her hand with spiritual energy and uses them against a moth demon 6.
- Kills a moth demon with a barehanded slash while continuing to claim that she can handle only weak opponents 17.
- Secretly forms balls of spiritual power to assist the younger disciples against Thousand Vines 40.
- Uses spiritual power to weave clothing from silkworm threads 1.
Divine Sense and Illusion Intervention
Zhu Lianqing can join her divine sense with another person’s and enter their inner-demon illusion 41.
- Enters Xie Lingchuan’s illusion while giving him air underwater 41.
- Uses strands of divine sense to reach him after ordinary mental calls fail 43.
- Remembers her route through the illusion and leads him back to its exit before it collapses 43.
- Risks damage to her spiritual consciousness from contact with the illusion’s manifestations; remaining too long could trap both participants permanently 42 43.
Concealment and Binding Spells
Her disguise combines a replacement body, altered behavior, suppressed cultivation, and misleading explanations 1 8 24.
- Seals her own spiritual meridians, making her cultivation appear much lower than it is 24 45.
- Correctly casts the Spirit Connection Spell after Xie Lingchuan’s initial attempt fails 24 25.
- Unilaterally dissolves that connection to escape his supervision 34.
- Does not expect her concealment to withstand examination by the Luoyu Sword Sect’s senior leaders 24.
Invention and Demon Investigation
- Demon-Detecting Needle: Developed during her first year teaching Xie Lingchuan. This compass-like device points toward demonic energy, including its strongest concentration 19.
- Luminous-phosphorus tracking: Proposes marking moth demons with modified luminous phosphorus to follow them to White Bone Cavern 15.
- Demonic-energy perception: Continues sensing dense yao qi deep inside White Bone Cavern even after most of its ghouls have been eliminated 20.
Equipment & Items
- Autumn Water Sword, “Little Qiu” — A divine weapon obtained by defeating an ancient beast in Non-Delusion Heaven, the final secret realm of the Myriad Sword Tomb. It accompanied her through her earlier battles, but her reconstructed body has only a faint connection to its sword soul 10 25.
- Silkworm-silk robes and veiled hat — Self-made clothing chosen to distinguish Wang Xianren from her former identity 1.
- Fox-shaped jade pendant — Purchased for her by Xie Lingchuan while they browse stalls in Falling Snow City 28.
- Young Master’s Intoxication — A wine she seeks out in Flowing Light City and subsequently carries at her waist 2 4.
Relationships
- Xie Lingchuan — Her sole direct disciple and mission target. She believes her guidance prevented his original tragic fate, but repeatedly misreads the depth of his attachment and grief. As Wang Xianren, she becomes both the subject of his suspicions and someone he insists on protecting 1 24 38 42 48.
- 191 — Her assigned system, responsible for reconstructing her body after the portal failure. She frequently berates it, but relies on it for mission information and investigation of possible anomalies 1 15 35.
- Qin Man / A Man — A traveling companion whose relationship with Wei Mingchi draws Zhu Lianqing’s concern. Zhu Lianqing later encourages her to pursue admission to Seven Splendors Mountain despite hostile rumors about the sect 6 26 33.
- Shen Ji — A junior sect relative who knows her as Senior Xianren. She appreciates his tact and kindness, becomes suspicious when he plays music from her home world, and later rescues him from Yesheng 11 15 41.
- Jiang Tingxue, Song Wensheng, and Yan Qing — Junior sect relatives traveling with Xie Lingchuan. She offers guidance and covert assistance; Jiang Tingxue becomes particularly curious about her after seeing her swordsmanship 11 40 48.
- Liu Xiuzhi and Liu Er — Initially her hosts in Wuxia Village. After their role in the travelers’ deaths is exposed, she condemns their crimes and calculates that at least 1,440 people were killed 4 17 19.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Return as Wang Xianren
After awakening in her new body, Zhu Lianqing visits Flowing Light City and overhears a debate about Xie Lingchuan’s standing on the Youth Ranking. She stakes all her remaining gold and a spirit stone on his victory, then unexpectedly encounters him and other Luoyu Sword Sect disciples while leaving 1 2 3.
Wuxia Village and White Bone Cavern
Her leisurely river journey brings her to Wuxia Village, where she begins having recurring dreams of an eerie palace. After Wei Mingchi’s death, she destroys a corpse-eating demon and reunites with Xie Lingchuan during a moth-demon attack. She remains with the disciples as they expose the village’s practice of sacrificing travelers and investigate White Bone Cavern 4 5 6 17 19.
Her own Demon-Detecting Needle subsequently points at her. Xie Lingchuan refuses to kill her without evidence of wrongdoing, but insists on keeping her under supervision and eventually taking her to the Luoyu Sword Sect for examination. She agrees to a Spirit Connection Spell while privately planning to escape 24 25.
Northern Territory and Failed Escape
The party travels north with A Man. In Falling Snow City, Zhu Lianqing’s drinking leads Xie Lingchuan to retrieve her from a pleasure house. Her palace dream later reveals that its mysterious woman has the appearance of her original body; the accompanying man remains unseen 26 30 31.
After supporting A Man’s attempt to join Seven Splendors Mountain, she breaks the Spirit Connection Spell and slips away. Two months later, Xie Lingchuan catches up with her near sealed Pingjiang City. She concludes that he planted a tracking gu on her while helping her back from drinking 33 34 35 36.
Thousand Vines and Xie Lingchuan’s Illusion
While investigating monsters near Pingjiang City, the group falls into a trap. Zhu Lianqing eventually intervenes openly to rescue Shen Ji and Xie Lingchuan from Yesheng’s effects 39 41.
Inside Xie Lingchuan’s illusion, she sees an unusually cheerful younger version of him and then a devastating vision of her own death. His grief becomes so intense that he cries blood. She brings him out before the illusion traps them both, but collapses after returning to the surface. During their subsequent conversation, she admits to concealing her cultivation without revealing her identity 42 43 45.
Ghost Wedding in Pingjiang City
When Liu Mingzhu is abducted into Pingjiang City, Zhu Lianqing joins the rescue party to protect her disciple and junior sect relatives. Before they enter, Xie Lingchuan casts Live and Die Together, causing injuries she receives to fall on him despite her objections 48.
At the He family courtyard, a ghost matchmaker selects her as a bride. She allows herself to be escorted inside, telling Xie Lingchuan that they should adapt to the situation and discover what the ghosts are planning 50.
