Childhood and family estrangement

Keke grew up relying on Jiang Si for comfort and protection. During a childhood thunderstorm, he held her hand when their parents were away working at night. Their parents also regarded him as the capable sibling who would continue looking after her 228 389.

After their parents died in a car accident during a family trip, Keke blamed Jiang Si and maintained a cold relationship with him for three years. She later came to believe that she herself had caused their deaths, making guilt and atonement central to her actions 161 206 217 383.

At school, she was academically successful but avoided social interaction, particularly with boys. Jiang Si attended her parent-teacher meetings; although classmates sometimes laughed about this, her teacher reprimanded them, and she was not generally ostracized 7.

Becoming Magical Girl Liuli

Being saved by Larkspur prompted Keke to follow news about magical girls. Receiving a Miracle Seed did not immediately grant her powers: it was empty, and repeated attempts to transform failed until Shion intervened 8 29.

Her initial Bureau tests placed her among the weaker newcomers. Wanting to become stronger—and especially to become close to Shion—she began practicing precise magic control at home, even using Jiang Si’s unusually heavy training equipment 20.

Early battles exposed her inexperience. During the firebird attack, she helped rescue Jiang Si and lure the beast away from the Bureau, but became vulnerable after it split into two B-rank creatures. Shion intervened before one could kill her 15.

Shion’s killing of the incapacitated Witch Association member Du Juan challenged Keke’s idealized view of magical girls. She realized that her own magic could kill people, chose to remain with the Bureau, and agreed to train under Hyacinth 29.

The captain and Shion’s training

The captain targeted Keke for conversion into a powerful witch, exploiting her anger and guilt. Although she insisted she would never become one, the conversion left a lasting foundation that later allowed her to use tainted magic 66 169.

Keke subsequently identified her emergence from the captain’s witch cocoon—not her earlier forced transformation—as the moment she truly became a magical girl. Having confronted the past, she formed her own purpose: creating happiness and making up for suffering 438.

Shion rescued her from the vine-covered Calamity Beast and demonstrated the Great Desolate Heaven-Imprisoning Finger. When Keke failed to understand the technique, she pretended to have a witch personality rather than admit it; Shion exposed the excuse 70.

Further training turned that initial failure into a signature skill. Shion forced her through prolonged battles, corrected her technique, and entrusted her with a subsidiary Fallen Heart Flame. Later lessons focused on controlling her witch form and combining incompatible types of magic 96 169 176.

Reconciliation with Jiang Si

Keke eventually became overwhelmed by regret over her treatment of Jiang Si. She packed to search for him, took leave from school, and quit her Bureau job. When they reunited, she apologized for blaming him after the accident and shutting him out 160 161.

Her reconciliation brought renewed affection but also intense fear of separation. She repeatedly sought greater strength after being unable to help him, while coming to recognize that his apparently indifferent manner had always concealed consistent care 165 199 217.

When she believed the Azure Cloud Sect was hunting him as Si Motu, Keke tried to act on his behalf rather than wait for rescue. She later fought him on the beach to bring him home, using flames that healed him while weakening his power; Jiang Si reflected her final blast and defeated her 304 311.

Chongxu and the Holy Church

Keke joined the Holy Church to gain the strength to protect Jiang Si. During the Chongxu conflict, she fought Witch Shion and, with Yitaen’s assistance, caught her inside a Mental Image that burned away her authority over Chongxu 340 355.

Her allegiance to the Church ended when it forcibly detained Chongxu’s people as batteries. Supported by Yinlian and White Fox, Keke fought through its squads and rescued prisoners. This marked a change from acting only when cornered to deliberately using her strength against injustice 366.

Black Keke and the loss of identity

Black Keke arrived claiming to be Keke from another world, carrying knowledge needed to avert the world’s destruction. Her attempt to replace Keke first provoked jealousy over Shion, then became an existential threat 367.

The replacement affected people and machines alike: friends treated Keke as Black Keke, acquaintances no longer recognized her, and identity-verification systems rejected her. When Jiang Si acknowledged Black Keke as his sister, Keke’s Personal Reality and magical-girl powers disappeared 370 382.

Rather than give up, she resolved to rebuild her relationships and demand an apology from Jiang Si. She embraced her witch power and pursued the pair to Chongxu 383.

The eventual records revealed that Black Keke’s history consisted of countless cycles in which one Keke replaced another, failed to prevent catastrophe, and became the next regressor. Keke rejected the offered power of reincarnation, accepted the dead versions’ memories, and chose to live and die with the people of her present world. She reconciled with Black Keke and accepted Jiang Si’s apology 397.

Magical Kingdom and the final conflict

A partial soul exchange placed Keke in Shion’s body. Jiang Si had her temporarily stand in for Shion at the Azure Cloud Sect, but she still did not know that teacher and brother were the same person 403 406.

After returning to her own body, Keke reunited with her mother in the Magical Kingdom. When Shion began sacrificing magical girls to create a new future, Keke left her mother to help her friends. She refused Qianye’s proposal to kill Shion and instead committed herself to saving Shion, the world, and every magical girl 414 417.

During the endgame, Keke returned the power of miracles and wishes to ordinary people. She later created parallel worldlines so the worlds of different eras could coexist, relinquishing her accumulated power to build futures for their inhabitants 438 442.

Her spear pierced Jiang Si, after which history treated her as an only child and erased him from collective memory. In the finale, Bingtang’s necklace restored Keke’s Miracle Seed and memories during a world-consuming golden curse. Recognizing Teacher Shion as Jiang Si, she called his true name, restored everyone’s memories, and drew him back through time as the Immortal Emperor 439 445.

Personality

Keke initially appears withdrawn, cold, and difficult to approach. She is a good student but dislikes interacting with classmates, and her early resentment of Jiang Si dominates her behavior at home 7.

Her self-doubt contrasts sharply with her diligence. She initially assumes that an unimpressive beginning means she will never become exceptional, yet continues training obsessively. Even after becoming extraordinarily powerful, she credits Shion and Dandelion’s instruction rather than treating other magical girls as inherently inferior 20 96 207.

She is especially vulnerable to Shion’s authority. Attempts to act defiant repeatedly collapse into reflexive obedience or apologies. At the same time, she longs for Shion’s approval and fears losing their closeness once her training ends 168 315.

Guilt makes her unusually afraid of making moral mistakes. For much of the story, she treats being a magical girl as atonement and believes that hurting someone would destroy her remaining grounds for self-forgiveness 383.

Her later growth centers on responsibility without self-erasure.
