Background / History

Early Life and Shrek Academy

Chu Feng is a transmigrator from a modern information-age world who knows the original course of events involving Tang San and the Shrek Seven Devils. Rather than allow them to follow that plot, he intends to change their destinies. His system appeared when he awakened his Martial Soul at six 1 2 14.

Zhao Wuji brought him to Shrek Academy, a decision Zhao later regarded as his best. Chu Feng subsequently became influential enough that Flender consulted him on academy decisions. He also competed at Suotuo City's Great Arena, earning a Bronze Soul Fighter Badge in one month at ten before losing interest and returning to cultivation 2 29 48 49.

Training the New Students

After Tang San's group passed Zhao Wuji's entrance test, Chu Feng conducted an additional assessment to obtain their badges and plan their training. Using a fusion of Dai Mubai, Oscar, and Ma Hongjun's powers, he forced Tang San, Xiao Wu, Ning Rongrong, and Zhu Zhuqing to surrender 1 2.

Tang Hao confronted him that night and threatened him over Tang San's defeat. Chu Feng challenged Tang Hao's treatment of his son, while Flender and Zhao Wuji intervened to protect him from a hammer strike 3.

Chu Feng then introduced the newcomers to Martial Dao, demonstrating its effectiveness by defeating Tang San with Bajiquan. When Yu Xiaogang condemned the training and attempted to take Tang San away, Chu Feng used a barrier to prevent their departure; Tang San later thanked him for resolving the situation 4 5 6 7.

Contract Soul Rings and the Star Dou Great Forest

During the group's forest expedition, Chu Feng spared the Phoenix-tail Crested Serpent at Xiao Wu's request and revealed that Oscar had obtained a six-thousand-year third Soul Ring with his help. After the Titan Giant Ape's appearance, he followed its trail into the forest and met the Sky Azure Bull Python 12 13.

Chu Feng reassured Xiao Wu that he had known her Soul Beast identity since her arrival and still considered her a friend. He demonstrated that his own ring-providing beasts remained alive and proposed Contract Soul Rings as a step toward peaceful human–Soul Beast coexistence. Despite the Sky Azure Bull Python's initial skepticism, they reached a cooperation agreement 14 15 17.

Anticipating that Tang San would return to search for Xiao Wu, Chu Feng found him facing a Man Faced Demon Spider, healed him, and killed the wounded beast. He then helped Tang San contract an Azure-Patterned Tenacious Life Spider. Further expeditions secured suitable Contract Soul Beasts for Ning Rongrong and Zhu Zhuqing 17 18 19 22 26.

Research and the Theory Contest

After establishing the students' physical foundations, Chu Feng assigned individualized Martial Dao manuals to address their weaknesses. He also recruited Tang San into the Soul Guidance Research and Development Lab, directing his talent for hidden weapons toward Soul Guidance Technology and Battle Armor 28 32 33.

When Yu Xiaogang publicly accused Shrek Academy, Chu Feng demanded evidence and accepted a contest on Soul Ring configurations. He defeated Yu Xiaogang by explaining configurations for an intentionally absurd chicken-droppings Martial Soul and an alternative development path for Luo Sanpao. He then arranged Yu Xiaogang's imprisonment and took the Shrek students to the Great Arena to develop practical combat experience and teamwork 43 44 45 46 47 48.

Dugu Bo and the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well

Chu Feng sought the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well for both personal advancement and the organization's development. Having prepared a Soul Power Sealing Device nearby, he used it during his confrontation with Dugu Bo and Dugu Yan. He offered treatment for their inherited poisoning and secured Dugu Bo's agreement to join his organization 51 52 53.

Inside the well's hidden core, Chu Feng advanced to level 41. After curing Dugu Bo and Dugu Yan, he collected immortal herbs for the Shrek students and returned with Dugu Bo, giving the academy a publicly acknowledged Titled Douluo protector 54 56 57.

Academy Expansion and New Threats

As Dugu Bo's membership threatened to draw attention to the hidden organization, Chu Feng proposed separate inner and outer academies and the recruitment of commoner students. He advocated teaching technology, Battle Armor crafting, Contract Soul Rings, and theory alongside combat 68 69.

During a visit to Heaven Dou Royal Academy, he declined an invitation to transfer there. After Shrek defeated the Imperial Fighting Team, he warned Meng Shenji to investigate its suspicious black-clad leader and his Soul Tool armor 75 79.

A later ambush targeted the Shrek group's Battle Armor. Chu Feng called out two hidden Soul Douluos, who captured the attacking Soul Sage, but the captive committed suicide before revealing their organization's identity. He subsequently helped Ning Rongrong contract a thirty-thousand-year Swamp Thorn Alligator Snapping Turtle 83 88.

Appearance

  • General appearance: A handsome youth with a poised bearing; Ning Fengzhi immediately remarks on both qualities 1 29.
  • Training attire: Wears a practical outfit while teaching Martial Dao 4.
  • Fusion transformation: His Dai Mubai–Oscar–Ma Hongjun fusion gives him one gold eye, one red eye, golden-red facial markings, and flaming tiger wings. These changes disappear when he dismisses his Martial Soul 2.
  • Soul Rings: Normally transparent, but their colors can change during fusion 1 2 54.

Personality

Chu Feng combines demanding instruction with substantial personal investment in his companions. He refuses to excuse Ning Rongrong from training because of her background, but rewards achievement, provides financial support, and openly praises the students when they perform well. Their growth also benefits his badge-based abilities, making his mentorship both affectionate and self-interested 5 7 37 54 60.

He is irreverent toward status and enjoys provoking opponents. He mocks Yu Xiaogang's claims to authority, criticizes Tang Hao despite the danger, and uses an outrageous hypothetical Martial Soul to expose weaknesses in conventional theory. His confidence is tempered by preparation: before approaching Dugu Bo, he installs a sealing device rather than relying on courage alone 3 5 44 52.

He opposes needless killing without being unwilling to fight. He stops Tang San from proposing the elimination of Canghui Academy's group and rejects using heavy weapons in ways that could endanger innocent people. He also repeatedly warns his students against arrogance and underestimating opponents 10 49 68.

Chu Feng's ambitions extend beyond producing strong fighters. He wants to alter the original plot, reduce the need to kill Soul Beasts, broaden access to education, and develop technology capable of transforming the continent 2 15 68 69.

Abilities & Skills

Debt King System

Chu Feng named his system the Debt King System because it lets him acquire other people's current abilities, including Martial Souls, Soul Rings, Soul Skills, and Soul Bones 1.

  • Acquisition conditions: Defeat a target or raise their favorability toward him 1.
  • Combat acquisition: Grants the abilities the target possessed when defeated 1.
  • Maximum favorability: Allows continued use of a person's abilities as that person grows stronger; Tang San reaches this state after learning the Contract Soul Beast method 1 19.
  • Rewards: Provides money, badges, manuals, and Contract Soul Beasts. Defeating the A-rank Meng Yiran earns him ten thousand Gold Soul Coins 7 12 26 54.

Martial Soul Fusion and Sublimation

The Martial Soul Sublimator combines badge-derived powers into new fused Martial Souls and skills 2 18.

  • Capacity: Three badges at level 39; four after reaching level 41 2 54.
  • Experimentation: He must test combinations himself, and some badges work poorly together 2.
  • Dependency: Fusion strength relies heavily on the strength represented by the component badges 54.
  • Demonstrated performance: A combination using Tang San, Zhu Zhuqing, and Dai Mubai's abilities defeats the Soul King Ye Zhiqiu almost instantly 10.
  • Projected performance: After unlocking four-badge fusion, Chu Feng believes he can challenge a Soul Emperor; this is his assessment rather than a documented victory 54.

Martial Dao

Chu Feng establishes a Soul Power-based Martial Dao discipline that strengthens the meridians, skin, and flesh before applying specialized bodily combat techniques 4.

  • Unassisted physical force: Demonstrates movements and drives a wooden post into the ground without actively using Soul Power 4.
  • Bajiquan and Iron Mountain Lean: Breaks Tang San's Blue Silver Grass, controls his arms, and defeats him at close range 4.
  • Serpentine Wandering Steps: Evades Meng Yiran's attack and closes the distance without deploying his Martial Soul 11.
  • White Snake Flicks Its Tongue: Strikes Meng Yiran's elbow and forces her to drop her Serpent Cane 11.
  • Individualized instruction: Selects techniques to correct each student's weaknesses and encourages their use as foundations for Self-Created Soul Skills 28.
  • Expanded knowledge: Receives the Complete Martial Dao Manual after all Shrek members obtain their third Soul Rings; the system identifies his earlier work as incomplete 26.

Contract Soul Rings

Chu Feng develops and teaches a method through which a Soul Beast becomes a Soul Master's companion and supplies a Soul Ring without dying 15 19 23.

  • Benefits: Generates Soul Skills and may also produce a Soul Bone while preserving the beast's life 19.
  • Higher age limits: Allows students to acquire rings far older than conventional limits, including Tang San's six-thousand-year third ring 19 20.
  • Ring quality: Tang San's resulting ring lacks the malice and backlash associated with hunted rings and conveys the beast's toughness, vitality, and self-healing properties 20.
  • Independent movement: Contract Soul Beasts can travel far from their masters 17.
  • Practical obstacle: Widespread adoption is difficult because of hostility and distrust between humans and Soul Beasts 15.
  • Personal distinction: Chu Feng states that his own way of obtaining Soul Rings differs from the method he teaches the others 26.
Contract Soul Beast Documented Connection
Spirit-Devouring Rat One of the three living beasts providing his first three Soul Rings 15.

Healing and Poison Treatment

  • Holy Light: Heals Tang San's injuries and removes the Man Faced Demon Spider's paralysis toxin 18.
  • Borrowed healing: His fused Martial Soul retains healing capabilities derived from Oscar 2.
  • Poison suppression: Supplies a reagent that suppresses Dugu Bo's accumulated toxins for one month 53.
  • Treatment: Cures Dugu Bo and Dugu Yan's poisoning following his visit to the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well 56.

Soul Master Theory and Technology

Chu Feng studies Martial Souls and ring configurations extensively to improve his badge combinations. His theoretical work includes matching rings to unusual Martial Souls and using related bloodlines to repair a flawed development path 43 45 46 47.

  • Luo Sanpao proposal: Explains how carefully chosen lightning-attribute rings could bridge its severed bloodline pathway and enable a breakthrough past level 29 47.
  • Research leadership: Recruits Tang San for Soul Guidance Technology and monitors the institute's development projects 32 34.
  • Battle Armor knowledge: Possesses the underlying knowledge but cannot yet personally produce a complete suit at the time he introduces it to Tang San 33.
  • Organizational resources: Oversees access to advanced weapons, including a Level 9 Fixed Soul Guidance Shell described as capable of killing a Titled Douluo 32.

Knowledge of the Original Plot

  • Recognizes Xiao Wu's identity, Tang San's Twin Martial Souls, and important figures before these are openly explained to him 14 29 33.
  • Presents his knowledge of the Sky Azure Bull Python, Titan Giant Ape, and Xiao Wu's original fates as an ability to glimpse the future; the narration identifies this as knowledge of the original plot, not demonstrated precognition 16.
