Background / History

Tang San retains memories and the complete Tang Sect inheritance from his previous life. He recognizes Chu Feng’s Martial Dao as resembling the martial arts of that world and initially considers his own otherworldly knowledge a source of uniqueness. He also remembers stealing secret techniques in his former life 4 19.

In his current life, Tang San studies under Yu Xiaogang, who looks after him and teaches him about Soul Masters. During their search for his first Soul Ring, Yu Xiaogang initially recommends Ten-Year Solitary Bamboo. A Mandala Snake ultimately becomes available instead; the account attributes its appearance to Tang Hao’s secret intervention 5 6.

Tang Hao instructs him not to reveal his second Martial Soul casually. Tang San follows this advice closely, initially refusing to expose the Clear Sky Hammer even when doing so might prolong his fight against Chu Feng 2 33.

Personality

Tang San is proud of his Tang Sect inheritance and strongly dislikes losing. After his first defeat by Chu Feng, he declares that he will win their next encounter. Being defeated again—this time in martial arts—shakes him more deeply because Chu Feng defeats him in a field he considers his own specialty 2 4.

His loyalty can conflict with his judgment. Although he recognizes the advantages of remaining at Shrek, his obligations to Yu Xiaogang and fear of being branded an ungrateful disciple nearly make him leave. Conversely, Chu Feng’s protection, generosity, and willingness to share valuable knowledge earn his profound gratitude and commitment 6 7 19.

Usually calm enough to coordinate his teammates in battle, Tang San becomes reckless when Xiao Wu is threatened. His protectiveness also has a lethal edge: he considers killing the Canghui Academy group and later reacts violently when a noble threatens his companions. Chu Feng explicitly cautions him against treating an academy dispute as grounds for murder 10 17 74.

Abilities & Skills

Twin Martial Souls

Tang San possesses Blue Silver Grass for control and the Clear Sky Hammer for direct offense 22 33.

  • Blue Silver Grass: Restrains enemies and controls their movement. Its original weaknesses include intense fire and the Man Faced Demon Spider’s corrosive venom 2 17.
  • Clear Sky Hammer: Provides a close-range striking option, including when enemies resist his grass. Before receiving Soul Rings, however, it is not powerful enough to replace his hidden weapons as his principal damage source 19 32.
  • Long-term development: Both Yu Xiaogang and Chu Feng advise postponing the hammer’s Soul Rings until he becomes a Titled Douluo, allowing him to pursue nine hundred-thousand-year rings 87.

Blue Silver Grass Soul Skills

Skill Applications and limits
Blue Silver Entanglement Binds opponents with vines. Against Yu Tianheng, Tang San uses it to contain his berserk state rather than exchange direct attacks 4 59.
Blue Silver Myriad Life Bind His third Soul Skill; infuses the grass with life force, making its restraints harder to destroy 59.
Familiar-presence sensing An additional Martial Soul ability that lets him recognize Chu Feng’s return from a distance 58.
  • After acquiring his contract ring, his grass gains greatly increased vitality, resilience, and regeneration; vines shattered by Yu Tianheng’s lightning rapidly restore themselves 20 59 82.
  • Restraint is less useful against an opponent content to remain stationary. Tang San acknowledges this limitation against the Swamp Thorn Alligator Snapping Turtle 87.

Contract Soul Ring

Tang San’s third ring comes from Little Spider, a 6,000-year Azure-Patterned Tenacious Life Spider. Chu Feng teaches him the Contract Method and assists with their first life-symbiosis contract 19 20.

  • Obtains the ring without killing the Soul Beast or suffering the backlash associated with a hunted ring 20.
  • Inherits the spider’s toughness, vitality, and self-healing qualities; these also enhance his first two Soul Skills 20.
  • Estimates that using the contract ring consumes half the Soul Power of a conventional hunted ring 20.
  • Can summon Little Spider from the ring; a spider-shaped mark appears on his arm when the contract forms 20.
  • Future contract rings must be compatible with its life and resilience attributes, or their Soul Power seeds can conflict and cause internal-injury-like effects 82.

Life Breath Spider Spears

The contract grants Tang San an external Soul Bone manifested as eight slender, sharp, emerald-green Spider Spears. He can extend and retract them from his back 20.

  • Uses them offensively against Yu Tianheng’s Thunder Dragon Claw 58.
  • Deploys them under the name Life Breath Spider Spear 58.

Tang Sect Techniques

Tang San retains a complete martial inheritance and a photographic memory, allowing him to memorize the Contract Method after reading its manual 4 19.

  • Mysterious Heaven Skill: Supports his cultivation and provides the foundation that makes activating the Contract Method straightforward 1 20.
  • Mysterious Jade Hands: A hand technique used in close combat against Chu Feng 4.
  • Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track: Footwork that creates blurred afterimages and helps him partially evade Chu Feng’s Iron Mountain Lean 4.
  • Purple Demon Eye / Purple Demon Eye: An ocular technique used to inspect mechanisms; after reaching the Mustard Seed Realm, it penetrates disguises. It still cannot reveal Chu Feng’s secrets, showing only immense Soul Power and a white expanse 32 67.
  • Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer: Uses successive hammer strikes to block the Azure-Patterned Tenacious Life Spider’s legs and batter its carapace 19.

Hidden Weapons and Soul Guidance Research

Tang San is an accomplished mechanism designer and hidden-weapon researcher. Chu Feng recruits him specifically to transfer those skills into Soul Guidance Technology 32.

  • Designs a Sleeve Arrow capable of threatening a Soul Grandmaster, or a Soul Elder when used effectively, though its materials consume his monthly academy reward 32.
  • Uses the Zhuge Shooting Crossbow to attack the Man Faced Demon Spider’s weak points 17.
  • Plans to compensate for his control-focused Martial Soul by applying more poison to his hidden weapons 22.
  • Studies Battle Armor manuals and learns Soul Guidance Technology under Wang Er 36 38.
  • Develops Number Zero Battle Armor, lowering the equipment’s entry threshold to Soul Elder, with full performance available at Soul Ancestor 72.

Battlefield Coordination

His teammates accept his commands because he can remain calm and oversee the whole battlefield 10.

  • Assigns individual duties during the Phoenix-tail Crested Serpent encounter 10.
  • Separates Yu Tianheng from Dai Mubai so the latter can engage other opponents 58.
  • Directs the team’s decision to deploy Battle Armor against the Imperial Fighting Team’s Soul Tools 78.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Sleeve Arrow — A personally designed concealed weapon worn on his arm. Tang San considers keeping hidden weapons with him at all times a rule 32.
  • Zhuge Shooting Crossbow — Used against the 7,000-year Man Faced Demon Spider; poison and exhaustion eventually leave him unable to raise it 17 18.
  • Number Zero Battle Armor — His own development, supplied to his teammates and worn during the rematch against the Imperial Fighting Team. Its plates assemble around him as Blue Silver Grass merges into their patterns 72 78.
  • Soul Guidance Communicator — A jade-token communication device that also serves as his access pass. He uses it to contact Chu Feng and speak remotely with Xiao Wu 33 36.
  • Full Moon Wearing Autumn Dew — An Immortal Herb supplied by Chu Feng and consumed to advance his eye technique to the Mustard Seed Realm 67.
  • Prospective One-Word Battle Armor — Chu Feng shows him armor intended for his future use, but Tang San cannot wear it at level 34. The promised gift requires him to reach Soul King 33.

Relationships

  • Chu Feng — Initially a rival who defeats him twice; later his benefactor, trainer, and research leader. After receiving the Contract Method, Tang San’s favorability reaches its maximum, allowing Chu Feng’s Tang San badge to synchronize with his strength without repeated defeats 2 4 19 32.
  • Xiao Wu — His childhood companion and romantic partner. He risks his life trying to rescue her and accepts her completely after discovering that she is a transformed Hundred-Thousand-Year Soft Bone Rabbit 17 67 71.
  • Tang Hao — His father and the source of his caution about revealing the Clear Sky Hammer. Tang Hao also secretly intervenes in the circumstances surrounding his first Soul Ring 3 6 33.
  • Yu Xiaogang — His early teacher. Gratitude initially keeps Tang San loyal despite growing doubts, but Yu Xiaogang’s attacks on Shrek eventually destroy his remaining goodwill 6 27 41.
  • Little Spider — His Azure-Patterned Tenacious Life Spider companion. Their contract binds their fortunes together, and it affectionately nuzzles him after first emerging from its ring 20.
  • Wang Er — His guide in Soul Guidance Technology during the early research into Number Zero Battle Armor 38.
  • Shrek Seven Devils — His teammates and fellow students. They trust his tactical direction and later receive the Number Zero Battle Armor he develops 10 72 78.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Arrival at Shrek

Tang San joins Xiao Wu, Ning Rongrong, and Zhu Zhuqing in fighting Chu Feng. After his vines burn away and his hidden weapons are blocked, he surrenders rather than expose the Clear Sky Hammer. A second defeat during Chu Feng’s Martial Dao demonstration undermines his confidence in the superiority of his inherited techniques 1 2 4.

When Yu Xiaogang is expelled, Tang San nearly follows out of obligation. Chu Feng prevents his departure by invoking academy rules, giving him a way to remain without openly rejecting his teacher. Tang San subsequently thanks him and embraces Shrek’s training opportunities 6 7.

Star Dou Great Forest and the First Contract

After the Titan Giant Ape takes Xiao Wu, Tang San secretly leaves the retreating group to rescue her. A 7,000-year Man Faced Demon Spider ambushes and poisons him, and Chu Feng arrives just before it kills him 13 17 18.

With Chu Feng’s enhancements, Tang San overpowers a 6,000-year Azure-Patterned Tenacious Life Spider and contracts with it instead of killing it. The resulting ring, cultivation increase, and external Soul Bone transform his combat strength. Chu Feng then reassures him that Xiao Wu is safe 19 20.

Joining the Soul Guidance Research Institute

Chu Feng introduces Tang San to an underground research base whose Soul Tools surpass his current hidden weapons. Tang San accepts an invitation to join, seeing a chance to combine mechanism design with technology that could reduce a Soul Master’s dependence on Martial Soul quality 32 33.

He becomes the first of Chu Feng’s academy recruits assigned to the Soul Guidance Research Institute. His research into armor usable below Soul King begins as a concept and eventually produces working Number Zero Battle Armor 36 38 40 72.

Arena Campaign

Chu Feng requires the Shrek students to pursue Gold Soul Fighting Badges in team competition and their designated individual or paired events. Tang San and Xiao Wu immediately demonstrate their strength by defeating their paired opponents 49 50.

Over the following month, the group remains undefeated. Against the Imperial Fighting Team, Tang San contains Yu Tianheng with regenerating Blue Silver Grass and life-enhanced restraints, contributing to Shrek’s decisive victory 57 58 59 60.

Xiao Wu’s Identity

Chu Feng arranges for Tang San to consume his Immortal Herb privately, knowing the enhanced eye technique will reveal Xiao Wu’s true nature. Tang San discovers that she is a Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast but feels neither fear nor rejection; he embraces her and reaffirms their bond 67.

Their relationship deepens during the next five months, with her identity no longer troubling him 71.

Battle Armor Deployment

During a later confrontation with the Imperial Fighting Team, Tang San waits for Chu Feng’s approval before ordering Shrek to reveal its armor. He equips Number Zero Battle Armor himself, presenting his research as the answer to the opposing team’s Soul Tools 76 78.
