Background / History
Arrival in Hundred Stars Village
Xiao Ke'er was less than a month old when Xiao Changlin brought her to Hundred Stars Village on a day of torrential rain. Her elder brother, Xiao Feng, was then four or five years old. No one else accompanied them, and the villagers still did not know the family's origins more than ten years later. Xiao Changlin became the village's only physician, and Ke'er helped at the family pharmacy 3.
Life Before the Relocation
Ke'er showed concern for Ye Fan and Xiao Feng during their trading trip to Mang Village, finishing her pharmacy work and waiting at the village entrance before even the village chief arrived. After their safe return, she gave Ye Fan medicinal herbs for soaking his tired feet 3.
When her father accompanied the elders to find a resettlement site, she worried about his safety and asked Ye Fan whether the village could remain in the mountains. During his absence, she visited Ye Fan and his mother and took a quiet mountain walk with him, privately wishing they could spend their lives together that way 7 9 15.
Ke'er also assisted Xiao Feng during Granny Liu's medical crisis, preparing his silver needles and lighting an oil lamp for the treatment. She subsequently brewed medicine with Ye Fan over several days. Unknown to her, Ye Fan supplemented the medicine with the Spring of Life and secretly supplied Earth Spiritual Qi, enabling Granny Liu's recovery 11.
Leaving the Mountains
Before the move, Ke'er cleaned medicine boxes and counted medicinal ingredients while Ye Fan helped her family pack. After dinner, she and Ye Fan walked beneath the moon and embraced, marking a clear development in their mutual affection 16.
The relocation was her first journey outside the mountains. Initially fascinated by the broad roads and unfamiliar scenery, she became painfully exhausted after days of walking. Although Xiao Changlin and Ye Fan took her bundles, she refused Father Ye's offer to ride in a wheelbarrow and continued on foot 18.
At Phoenix Cry Village, Ma Chuang singled her out and demanded that the villagers let him take her away. Ke'er first tried to restrain Xiao Feng from rushing into a fight, then sheltered behind the villagers while Ye Fan, Xiao Feng, and Chen Yun confronted the men. Afterward, she checked on her brother, thanked Chen Yun, and privately told Ye Fan that he had been especially handsome that day 19 20.
Rebuilding and Village Livelihoods
The villagers established their temporary shelter at the abandoned Bright Virtue Academy. Ke'er helped prepare communal meals during reconstruction and quietly gave Ye Fan her remaining flatbreads to share with Xiao Feng when she thought they had not eaten enough 20 21 22.
When the new houses were completed, her family became Ye Fan's neighbors. She was delighted to have her own bedroom after living in temporary accommodation and immediately asked to see his room 32.
Ke'er replanted medicinal herbs brought from the mountains in the ground behind her family's new home. She supplied Ye Fan with Numbing Thorn Grass, Mountain Bodhi, and Qian Ginseng, which he secretly propagated inside his Inner World to sell. Later, she celebrated his successful sale of the villagers' bamboo wares and accompanied the group handing the proceeds to the village chief 35 37 43.
Appearance
Xiao Ke'er is described as a refined, gentle-looking girl with delicate skin and peach-colored cheeks 16.
- Eyes: Bright and clear; her eyes and brows curve like crescent moons when she smiles 9 16.
- Smile: Two dimples appear in her cheeks when she is pleased 16.
- Expressions: She blushes readily around Ye Fan, particularly when others tease them about their feelings 16 26.
Personality
Ke'er places her family above herself. Although she frequently quarrels with Xiao Feng, she worries about his safety, brings him food and water during the relocation, and reassures him that she felt safe behind him after the confrontation with Ma Chuang. Her father's prolonged absence leaves her anxious, and she greets his return with a tearful embrace 15 18 19 20.
Her gentleness does not prevent her from being firm. Displeased by Xiao Feng's delight at their father's departure, she stops speaking to him and cooking his meals for several days. Later, she pulls him out of bed to attend the village's livelihood discussion rather than letting him avoid contributing 7 9 35.
With Ye Fan, she is affectionate but easily embarrassed by public attention. She also respects his privacy: when he asks for herbs without explaining his purpose, she accepts his assurance; when he later offers an unconvincing excuse for an absence, she recognizes the lie but does not expose him 9 20 26 35 39.
