Background / History

Persecution in the Soul Master World

Born a commoner without a powerful family or faction behind him, Zhao Wuji acquired a fearsome reputation while struggling against stronger organizations. After accidentally injuring a younger male relative of Tai Tan, patriarch of the Strength Clan, he was hunted by the clan, one of the Clear Sky Sect’s four subordinate sects 37.

After he reached the Seven-Ring Soul Sage realm, Spirit Hall attempted to recruit him. Zhao Wuji valued his freedom and politely refused, angering Platinum Bishop Salas, then stationed at the Heaven Dou City branch. Salas dispatched sixteen black-robed bishops to pursue him. Zhao Wuji escaped their encirclement, further spreading his reputation as the Immovable Wisdom King, but remained on Spirit Hall’s blacklist and concealed his whereabouts 37.

Founding Shrek Academy

Zhao Wuji and the other founding teachers established Shrek Academy partly to escape the Soul Master world’s violence and find a peaceful place to spend their later years. All came from commoner backgrounds; they also wanted to nurture talented commoner Soul Masters and find successors to inherit their abilities 12.

When Dai Mubai enrolled, Zhao Wuji and Li Yusong both wanted him as a personal disciple. Zhao Wuji’s Beast Martial Soul was more compatible with Dai Mubai’s White Tiger, and his cultivation exceeded Li Yusong’s Level 63 Soul Emperor realm. Their competition led to several private sparring matches. Dai Mubai’s prolonged despondency eventually disappointed both teachers, though Zhao Wuji retained hope longer than Li Yusong 12.

Appearance

  • Build: Tall and burly, with broad shoulders and a thick back likened to a small mountain 11.
  • Hair and face: Neat, short hair; a square, resolute face; thick brows and heavy jowls 11 12.
  • Eyes: Sharp and bright, conveying experience, steadiness, and determination 11.
  • Presence: Fierce and imposing, despite his warmhearted nature 11 13.

Personality

Zhao Wuji’s intimidating exterior conceals a kindhearted teacher who values talent and cares deeply for Shrek’s students. He is more perceptive than his rough appearance suggests: a few changes in Dai Mubai’s expression and routine were enough for him to notice the boy’s renewed determination 12 13.

His concern for students takes precedence over excitement about their achievements. When Dai Mubai suddenly gained three Soul Power levels, Zhao Wuji worried that he had damaged his foundation through medicine or Evil Soul Master methods. He likewise opposed a ten-thousand-year Third Soul Ring until Dai Mubai explained his confidence and the deadly succession struggle behind his urgency 14 29 30 31.

He expresses affection through teasing, practical help, and demands that his students cultivate properly. He takes pride rather than offense when Dai Mubai’s attacks push him backward during testing. Good wine is his recurring request for repayment, while his exchanges with Flender frequently descend into affectionate insults and arguments over money 21 28 37.

Abilities & Skills

Great Strength Vajra Bear

  • A high-tier Power Attack System Beast Martial Soul renowned for strength and defense 12 27 37.
  • Its bloodline is described as no lesser than the Diamond Tiger’s 31.
  • Martial Soul Possession alone, combined with his lower-numbered skills, was sufficient to disable a six-thousand-year Holy Light Tiger without using his Martial Soul Avatar 23.

First Soul Skill: Immovable Bright King Body

  • A defensive Soul Skill used alongside Martial Soul Possession when testing Dai Mubai’s attacks 26.
  • Dai Mubai’s fully charged White Tiger Mountain-Shaking Charge drove him back five steps while it was active; Zhao Wuji had been slightly distracted 27.
  • A prepared Zhao Wuji was also pushed back five steps by White Tiger Holy Light Blast, and nearly ten by a charge followed by a point-blank blast. These tests did not represent his full combat strength 28 31.

Second Soul Skill: Great Strength Vajra Palm

  • A powerful palm-strike technique used to cripple Soul Beasts for students to finish 23 31.
  • Broke the Holy Light Tiger’s limbs and jaw in a few moves 23.

Third Soul Skill: Gravity Enhancement

  • Creates a powerful gravitational field that forces targets against the ground 23.
  • Immobilized both the Holy Light Tiger and the ten-thousand-year Diamond Tiger, leaving them vulnerable to follow-up attacks 23 31.

Fourth Soul Skill: Position Tracking

  • Listed in Zhao Wuji’s system information panel; its effects are not disclosed 13.

Fifth Soul Skill: Gravity Squeeze

  • Applies crushing gravitational pressure from every direction 31.

  • Combined with his palm and gravity skills, allowed him to subdue a newly ten-thousand-year Diamond Tiger in less than a minute 31.
  • His display made Dai Mubai recognize that Zhao Wuji had deliberately held back during their earlier sparring 31.
