Background

Dai Mubai is a prince of the Star Luo Empire who attends Shrek Academy. He is engaged to Zhu Zhuqing, who comes from the same empire and initially travels to Shrek because of him. His visits to brothels become a major source of her disappointment in him 9 18 23.

As a member of the Shrek Seven Devils, he participates in Great Soul Arena matches under the academy’s teachers. Yu Xiaogang expects him and Tang San to cooperate toward winning the continent-wide Soul Master Tournament 8 9.

Personality

Dai Mubai is jealous and possessive toward Zhu Zhuqing. He initially presents himself as a sincere suitor, but regards Li Zhiyan’s attractiveness as a threat and supports his expulsion partly to remove a romantic rival. When Zhu Zhuqing continues to reject him, his courtship gives way to insults, threats, and an attempted sexual assault 1 8 22 24.

He reacts violently to perceived disrespect: Tang San addressing him as “Mubai” rather than “Boss Dai” helps provoke a slap, while Ning Rongrong’s criticism prompts a death threat. His aggression is tempered by fear of stronger opponents and their backing; he considers attacking Tang San secretly to avoid Tang Hao’s retaliation and begs Li Zhiyan for mercy when immobilized 8 9 18 24.

His ambition extends to becoming emperor of the Star Luo Empire. After his defeat by Bu Le’s group, he tells Oscar that he intends to grow stronger and eventually kill Tang Hao once he takes the throne 19 21.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Li Zhiyan’s Expulsion

Dai Mubai joins Tang San, Oscar, Ma Hongjun, and Yu Xiaogang in denouncing Li Zhiyan as an Evil Soul Master. His support is driven partly by his suspicion that Zhu Zhuqing favors Li Zhiyan. Flender ultimately expels Li Zhiyan, setting up the latter’s revenge against Shrek Academy 1.

Conflict with Tang San

While Dai Mubai is trying to win Zhu Zhuqing over, Li Zhiyan plants a needle-delivered note exposing his brothel visits. Dai Mubai assumes Tang San sent it and concludes that Tang San also wants Zhu Zhuqing. He confronts him and slaps him hard enough to send him flying 8.

Their confrontation becomes a Soul Skill battle and then a fistfight. Zhao Wuji separates them, and Yu Xiaogang orders them to shake hands. Dai Mubai nevertheless considers killing Tang San covertly to avoid retaliation from Tang Hao 9.

Li Zhiyan then attacks Dai Mubai, Oscar, and Ma Hongjun with stolen Dragon Whisker Needles. All three blame Tang San. Under pressure from Yu Xiaogang, Tang San apologizes and removes the needles, but Dai Mubai maintains friendship only on the surface 10 11 12.

Failed Rescue in Suotuo City

Li Zhiyan tells Xiao Wu that Dai Mubai, Tang San, and Oscar intend to hire Bu Le’s group to stage a rescue. This is a setup: when the attackers actually appear, the boys regard their arrival as an unexpected opportunity to impress the girls. Xiao Wu, Zhu Zhuqing, and Ning Rongrong instead interpret it as confirmation of Li Zhiyan’s warning and refuse to help 16 18 19.

Dai Mubai and Oscar are badly beaten by Tianya and E Kao. Li Zhiyan intervenes and kills all three attackers, frightening Dai Mubai into pretending to faint. After Li Zhiyan leaves with the girls, Dai Mubai and Oscar beat the genuinely unconscious Tang San and abandon him 19 20 21.

Assault on Zhu Zhuqing and Castration

Angered by Zhu Zhuqing’s defense of Li Zhiyan, Dai Mubai decides to force himself on her. He persuades her to accompany him by claiming to have a secret concerning their lives, then leads her into a dead-end alley and blocks her escape 22 23 24.

Li Zhiyan arrives before Dai Mubai can carry out the assault and immobilizes him with the Two Extremes Stillness Domain. Zhu Zhuqing then uses a dagger supplied by Li Zhiyan to castrate him. Li Zhiyan also takes his Soul Tool and administers poison stolen from Tang San’s belt; the poison’s exact effect is unknown 24 25.

Dai Mubai crawls to the academy authorities and demands Zhu Zhuqing’s death. The next day, Zhu Zhuqing acknowledges castrating him in response to his attempted assault, while Xiao Wu and Ning Rongrong support her account and deny Li Zhiyan’s involvement 26.

Li Zhiyan deliberately leaves him alive because Dai Mubai’s remaining luck value makes the consequences of killing him uncertain 25.
