Temporarily Settled
After ending his communication with Jarod, Dath'Remar felt a sense of relief.
After obtaining the map from Snyder, you will find a new land for the Highborne as their new home. Now, all you can hope is that Snyder's map will reach them soon, as they don't have many magic crystals left.
Dath'Remar was very pleased with what he had gained on this trip, and his mood improved considerably.
"Strange elf, please stop." A voice reached Dath'Remar's ears.
"Who is it?" Dath'Remar drew his Flamestrike and looked around, trying to find the voice.
"You just dug out the communication stone my brother gave me from the ground beneath me, and you've already forgotten about me so quickly?" the voice said again.
"In the soil beneath you?" Dath'Remar returned to the tree where he had dug out the communication stone.
"Is that you?" Dath'Remar asked, looking at the huge tree beside the mound.
"It is a strange elf." A voice came from the huge tree, and a figure emerged from it.
"A soul?" Dath'Remar said, gripping Flamestrike.
"I don't know you, ghost. What do you want?"
"Relax, strange elf. I don't know you either. I only know a group of Eternal Elves, and their leader is called Jarod," the spirit said, but one could see the longing for the past in his eyes.
"Jarod? You know him too?" Dath'Remar was very curious that this soul also knew Jarod.
"Of course, we're best buddies."
"Would you like to hear my story, strange elf?" the spirit asked Dath'Remar.
"Of course, it's still early." Dath'Remar accepted the soul's invitation, partly because it was still early and partly because he wanted to learn more about the continent from the soul.
"Let me introduce myself. My name is Apophis, and I was once the chieftain of the Vrykul Horde here."
Apophis recounted his life story, the battle Jarod had experienced, and everything he had done after Jarod returned home to Dath'Remar.
"This is my life. Although it was short, I experienced all the joys and sorrows of life."
"Alright, I've finished my story. Now it's your turn, Strange Elf. Let me introduce you first," Apophis said, sitting down on the ground and facing Dath'Remar.
"My name is Dath'Remar, and I am the leader of the Highborne who crossed the sea to come here."
Dath'Remar also told Apophis was in a spirit state, his entire experience.
He also told him why he and Snyder had led their people away from their homeland and across the ocean to this place, and he also told him a lot of information about the Night Elf.
In his view, this spirit Apophis posed no threat to them.
"Being driven out of one's own people is a terrible feeling, but having an unreasonable leader is even more infuriating. When Jarod and I decided to eliminate the minions of the Old Gods, I defied all opposition and ordered that he be killed so that my descendants would not be in danger because of the Old Gods," Apophis said proudly.
"That battle was truly glorious; you did something great." Dath'Remar also affirmed what Apophis and Jarod had done.
"You are a good leader; you have brought lasting peace to your people. What I have encountered are cowards." Dath'Remar emphasized the word "cowards."
"But you will be a good leader. You are decisive, and you have chosen a new path for your people. Even if this path is difficult at first, you will walk it for your people, right?"
"Of course! I can give anything for my people," Dath'Remar replied without hesitation.
"You've found the stronghold that Jarod built, haven't you? Are there still people stationed there to protect it?" Apophis asked.
"That abandoned outpost? If it is, we've found it, but there's no one guarding it."
"No one? That's impossible. I clearly assigned people to guard it."
"It could also be due to the time; after all, I didn't expect Jarod to take so long to arrive," Apophis consoled himself.
"Here's what we'll do," Apophis suggested to Dath'Remar, "There are some of my clans nearby; you can seek their help."
"Nearby Vrykul clans? I sent scouts to explore this unknown continent from the moment we landed, but we haven't found any large Vrykul clans, only some small and medium-sized Vrykul." Dath'Remar told Apophis what he had learned about the continent from his scouts.
"How could this be! I made sure everything was settled before I died. It must be that brat Leo who failed to manage the clan properly!" Apophis was furious. The clan he had painstakingly built had been ruined by his descendants.
"Perhaps they've moved to another place?" Dath'Remar comforted him.
"Impossible! Although Jarod and I led the men to deal with the minions of the Old Gods in Tyr's Tomb, guarding this place is an order left by our ancestors!" Apophis clearly did not believe that his clan would migrate elsewhere.
"People change, especially after so much time. Successive chiefs will make decisions that are best for the people, even if it goes against the commands of their ancestors."
"After all, the commands of our ancestors are dead, but our own people are alive."
Dath'Remar comforted the angry Apophis in his own way.
"I can understand that the chief is making the best decisions for his people, but he should also come here to check on things every now and then."
"I haven't seen a single person come here in all these thousands of years," Apophis said.
"By the way, I've been wanting to ask you something, why have you been able to exist for so long? Shouldn't the soul dissipate quickly after death? But you've been able to exist for so long."
"I don't know either. That day, I dragged my aging body to this tree, intending to quietly await death. But the death I expected didn't come. I only felt my soul slowly leave my body and enter this tree."
"I survived for a long time by relying on this method."
"This might be the reward I'm getting for eliminating Tyr, the guardian of Zakajz, with Jarod, but it would have been better if I hadn't received it at all. I've been alone here watching the seasons change, enduring thousands of years of solitude."
Apophis lamented that longevity was not a reward but a torment for their short-lived species.
"Alright, you should go back now. You still need to settle your people."
"Then I'll be going now. Jarod might come in a few days, and I'll bring him to see you then. It'll be a good opportunity for you old friends to reunite and have a chat," Dath'Remar revealed to Apophis.
"Really? I haven't seen him in so long." Apophis was overjoyed to hear that Jarod had returned.
"Then I'll be waiting for your news." With that, Apophis returned to the large tree where he had been staying.
When Dath'Remar saw Apophis return, he turned and left as well.
