History
Fighting the Burning Legion
Jarod fought with the Resistance against the Burning Legion. During the battle in which he first met Naisha, he disabled an Infernal by severing its leg with a frost-enhanced blade, then ordered nearby soldiers to finish it. When demonic reinforcements arrived, he coordinated the scattered units and held the line until Naisha intervened with a rain of arrows 40.
He later teleported in front of Naisha to shield her from a Fel Reaver’s attack. She destroyed the machine and pulled him clear before it exploded. Exhausted by successive battles, both were defeated by an Eredar warlock before Snyder and the Hand of the Bright Moon arrived to rescue and heal them 41 42.
Migration and the Eastern Kingdoms Expedition
At Mount Hyjal, Jarod questioned whether Snyder truly intended to leave Kalimdor. He subsequently reported trouble in Suramar City, prompting Snyder to have the Hand of the Bright Moon construct a portal there 3 5.
During preparations for the new homeland, Snyder assigned Jarod to investigate a force suppressing earth elementals in a woodland to the east. The expedition ultimately comprised one thousand elves from multiple professions, including royal troops. Jarod received an energy detector and instructions to request help rather than act rashly 10 19 21.
After crossing the Great Sea, Jarod established an outpost in the Eastern Kingdoms. He directed Shamans to contact local elements, mages to locate ley-line nodes, and scouts to survey the surrounding land. Their discovery of the Vrykul led him to arrange a meeting with Apophis, chieftain of the Tyr Clan 22 23.
Tyr’s Tomb
Apophis initially rejected the suggestion that evil could exist at Tyr’s burial site. Jarod used an elementally blessed map to show shadow energy gathering at Tyr’s Fall while Tyr’s protective power weakened. The two agreed to enter the tomb, with Jarod supplying weapons for the Vrykul warriors 23 24.
Inside, Jarod helped lead the allied force against the Faceless Ones. He killed an enemy spellcaster and held off a high-ranking Faceless One while Apophis assisted the troops. When Jarod was overwhelmed, Apophis blocked a killing blow, allied casters froze the enemy, and an unseen golden power healed Jarod sufficiently for him to deliver the finishing strike 25 26.
The allies then confronted the resurrecting Zakajz. Jarod ordered the Faceless Ones’ corpses burned to deny Zakajz a source of recovery, but could not prevent his full revival. During the attempted withdrawal, Jarod retrieved Tyr’s silver fist and stayed behind to cover the others. Zakajz shattered his blade and knocked him unconscious 27 28.
Tyr appeared in Jarod’s mindscape and granted him his remaining power. Jarod awakened, saved Apophis, and wielded the weapon formed from the Silver Hand and his broken blade. Empowered by Tyr’s strength and experience, he killed Zakajz and purified the remains before helping the survivors escape the collapsing tomb 29 30.
Teaching the Vrykul
After the victory, Apophis asked whether his people could learn magic or elemental powers. Jarod sought Snyder’s approval and then organized the prospective apprentices’ reception and aptitude testing at the elven outpost 30 31 33.
All twenty children tested possessed magical talent: three awakened Arcane magic, seven fire, and ten frost. Jarod explained the three schools, offered an escort home, and provided packed food when Apophis declined further assistance 34.
Jarod remained among Apophis’s people for ten years. Before departing, he gave his friend a communication stone. During the return voyage, his fleet rescued an injured Night Elf calling herself Aisali, whom he invited to stay in the elven homeland while recovering 36.
Return Home
Snyder and Maiev welcomed Jarod’s fleet back to Dankfort. Learning that Naisha was the prospective partner Maiev had chosen for him, Jarod immediately left to find her. A Watcher sentry mistook him for an intruder; he injured her while defending himself, then offered healing medicine once he recognized her allegiance. Naisha’s arrival resolved the confrontation 37 38.
While visiting Faledor with Naisha, Jarod received a magical leaf as a blessing. Showing Faledor the Silver Hand caused Tyr’s remnant soul to appear. Snyder arranged for Tyr to remain with Faledor, and Jarod later gave Snyder the Silver Hand as material for reforging Nokao’si 44 45 46 47.
Twenty years without contact later, Jarod answered Apophis’s invitation and opened a portal to the Eastern Kingdoms. He noticed his friend’s failing vitality and learned of tensions between the clan’s warriors and mages. Before returning home, he offered assistance if needed 48.
Personality
Jarod prefers freedom to rank or political authority, despite possessing exceptional military talent. Maiev’s insistence that he use that talent frequently clashes with his desire for an unrestricted life. He is visibly intimidated by her disciplinary habits and initially tries to escape her matchmaking plans 3 10 19.
In battle, he is loyal, protective, and stubborn enough to endanger himself. He remains behind to cover retreats and refuses both the Faceless Ones’ invitation to serve darkness and the Burning Legion’s offer of power. His decision to confront danger without requesting help earns Maiev’s criticism 26 28 31 42.
Away from combat, Jarod enjoys teasing Snyder and treats the Vrykul children with patience and hospitality. His affection for Naisha is longstanding, though he undercuts a romantic moment by pretending to fall asleep while she recalls their first meeting 19 33 34 35 42.
