Background / History
Upbringing and New Moon Ambitions
Fang Ping'an was raised by his grandfather, Fang Tiankuo, who died when Ping'an was eighteen. Tiankuo had lived on New Moon before returning to Wuling City, and instructed his descendants to return there if any awakened the Upper Astral Aspect Sun-Devouring Python. This wish deeply influenced Ping'an 10.
His father, Fang Zhiyuan, named him with the hope that he would live a peaceful, carefree life. Instead, Ping'an became a hardworking businessman and restored much of the family's prosperity. Recognizing that his own martial talent was insufficient to establish himself on New Moon, he hoped to earn enough money to immigrate 10 12.
The names he gave his children reflected that ambition: Fang Yu and Fang Long's names evoked a python transforming into a dragon, while Fang Siyue's name expressed the hope of returning to New Moon 10.
Business and Family Life
Ping'an experienced several major financial rises and falls. After one business failure left him deeply in debt, Zhiyuan gave him 400,000 Star Coins, enabling him to rebuild. Ping'an believed this was the last of his father's savings and continued to respect and support him despite their conflicting outlooks on life 6 12 31.
He married Bai Qing and had three children. During their early childhood, Bai Qing was frequently away cultivating while Ping'an worked, leaving Zhiyuan and a nanny to handle much of their upbringing. After Bai Qing died on Primordial Star without her body being recovered, Ping'an held the family together; her death remained a source of lasting pain 6 10 11.
Investing in His Children
When Fang Siyue and Fang Long both awakened the Sun-Devouring Python, Ping'an began calling in money and favors to secure their foundation-building resources. That same evening, Fang Yu demonstrated Greater Mastery of Minute Subtlety with a 1,867-kilogram punch, convincing Ping'an that all three children had exceptional prospects 9 11.
Ping'an opened negotiations to sell his supermarket and placed a six-million-Star-Coin resource order. Zhiyuan intervened with a 5.1-million-Star-Coin transfer, revealed that he had preserved inherited Galaxy Group shares, and persuaded Ping'an not to sell the business yet 11 12.
Fang Yu's direct admission to Huguang Martial Arts University and Elite Contract exceeded Ping'an's expectations. Nevertheless, he refused a share of his son's university funds, insisting that Fang Yu needed them for cultivation and was not yet responsible for supporting his younger siblings 28.
Appearance
- Build: Burly, with a rugged face 9 10.
- Age: Middle-aged, with slightly graying temples 10.
- Clothing: Casually dressed when returning home from work 10.
- Health: Shows visible fatigue and has chronic illnesses associated with neglected training, business dinners, and drinking 10.
Personality
Ping'an treats providing for his children as a parental responsibility rather than a debt they must repay. He rejects Fang Yu's offer to surrender his living allowance and refuses to sacrifice one child's development for another's. Although apologetic about the limits of his resources, he continues backing Fang Yu despite others advising him to stop investing in a child without an awakened Astral Aspect 10 13 28.
His business experience makes him cautious about trust, contracts, and unnecessary confrontation. He teaches Fang Yu to preserve evidence and leave room to maneuver rather than expose an opponent he cannot decisively defeat. At the same time, he encourages accepting genuine help and repaying kindness, rather than trying to advance alone 2 28 29.
Zhiyuan considers him capable but impatient and prone to taking risks. Ping'an recognizes that Fang Yu shares his determination without the impulsiveness he had in his own youth 12.
