Background / History
Ernst Institute and Wharton’s Protection
In Yulan Calendar year 9991, Linley studies at the Ernst Institute and practices stone sculpting under Doehring Cowart. Monica approaches him after he defeats Land in a year-level competition and offers to teach him Wind Element magic. In exchange, he must attend her weekly music class. Doehring helps him recognize that Monica’s abilities far exceed her publicly claimed Sixth-level Magus rank 140.
Linley brings Monica to the Baruch estate hoping she might teach Wharton. Instead, her investigation reveals the danger surrounding the family’s bloodline, and she takes Wharton to the Rhine Empire for protection. The separation drives Linley to train harder. A later letter reassures him that Wharton is safe and studying under Veronica, prompting Linley to plan a visit once he becomes a Level Seven Mage 141 142 143 144.
Mist Canyon and Jason’s Patronage
After six more years of study, Linley enters the Mountain Range of Magical Beasts. In Mist Canyon, he awakens his Dragonblood Warrior bloodline and removes the Purple Blood Sword from a formation, damaging a seal connected to the Gebados Plane. Jason arrives, introduces himself as Wharton’s protector and an elder by marriage, and refuses Linley’s offer of the sword. Linley and Bebe flee when Jason engages a Deity-level beast nearby 145 147 148.
Jason’s public display of power discourages the major factions from competing over Linley. Returning home, Linley learns of his father’s supposed death and holds a funeral, unaware that Hogg is alive. He asks Jason to deliver Slaughterer to Wharton and transfer the Baruch Clan’s leadership to his brother, while he remains behind to investigate his parents’ enemies. Jason supplies investigative and restraining scrolls and arranges for Doehring Cowart’s soul to be moved out of the Coiling Dragon Ring 153 154.
The Knight Order and Dragonblood Castle
After reuniting with Hogg, Linley declares his intention to destroy the Radiant Church because Clayde offered his mother’s soul to the Radiant Sovereign. Jason directs father and son toward the Four Directions Knight Order’s campaign against the churches, while making clear that Linley’s independently awakened bloodline leaves him under no obligation to serve Jason 161.
Linley reaches Saint level, marries Delia, and has children. As the strongest member of the Four Ultimate Warrior Clans at the time, he becomes the knight order’s secretary-general, supervising discipline with ten subordinates. After his ascension to godhood, Dragonblood Territory becomes foremost among the Four Way Territories, with Dragonblood Castle serving as their center 162 163 174.
The Infernal Realm and Clan War
Linley eventually reaches the Baruch Clan’s Yulan branch in the Skyrite Mountains. During his reunion with Jason, he demonstrates Seven Star Fiend strength despite remaining a Midgod. Their spar exposes weaknesses in his reliance on Blackstone Space: Jason bypasses its forces with Arc Flash and withstands its soul interference, leading Linley to concede 218.
Linley later enters Blood War Valley, alarming Monica and Bebe. During the fighting against the Eight Great Clans, he and Jason exchange defensive artifacts to match their opponents. Linley survives Ashcroft’s Soul Annihilation and keeps the Nether Serpent slowed with Dragon Roar, creating the opening Jason uses to kill him. Linley subsequently becomes an Earth Element Highgod while the Blood Peak Sovereign is ending the feud 223 232 235.
Revenge and the Planar Battlefield
On returning to the Yulan Continent, Linley learns that the Evil King killed Yale, George, and Hazer. He enters the Gebados Plane with Jason and his companions, obtains Odin’s imprisoned Wind Clone, and tears out its Divine Spark after beating him alongside Bebe and Reynolds 238.
Seeking help for the dead, Linley fails to meet the Netherworld’s King of the North and instead reaches the Sovereign of Death on Nether Mountain. She offers to save two friends or relatives for each Golden Badge earned on the Planar Battlefield. There, Linley meets Leisjing, becomes involved in a dispute with the Augusta Clan, and suffers Clementine’s attack. Leisjing’s Soul Stone helps him survive a four-element soul mutation. His subsequent feat of throwing a Paragon into Spatial Turbulence leads others to describe him as a Paragon 244.
Alliance with Jason and the Final Battle
Linley helps Jason pursue the Red Caltryp Diamond by forcibly searching its holder’s soul. Recognizing that the diamond matches a socket in the damaged crown he obtained on the Planar Battlefield, he shows Jason the Amethyst Iron Crown and freely gives it to him when asked 245.
When Hongmeng’s influence makes others reluctant to risk themselves for Jason, Linley remains an ally. Jason instructs him to guard and temporarily seal the Silver Ring Plane’s teleportation array. In the final confrontation, Linley claims the Life Divine Sword, enters Spatial Turbulence to join his Sovereign clone, and fights the arriving Sovereigns. He kills Teresia and secures his Wind Element Lower Sovereign Spark 248 249.
Appearance
Linley has brown hair and is slightly over 1.7 meters tall when Jason first meets him in Mist Canyon 147.
- After bloodline awakening: His skin is described as smooth and fair 147.
- Dragon Transformation: He fights with dragon claws and a dragon tail; his late-stage transformed body reaches Sovereign Artifact toughness 218 249.
- Divine-beast manifestation: Dragon Roar produces the image of a giant azure dragon behind him 232.
- Frequent companion: Bebe often rides on his shoulder or rests in his chest pocket 140 147.
Personality
Linley is disciplined and strongly motivated by family. After Wharton leaves for the Rhine Empire, he pushes himself until Doehring warns him against damaging his body. His school routine includes morning reading, afternoon sculpting, and nighttime meditation; his reading extends beyond magic to history and the humanities 143 144.
His early trust can outrun his caution. He brings Monica home after knowing her for little more than a month, without fully considering whether she might threaten his family. Removing Purple Blood likewise leaves him questioning his recklessness once he witnesses the resulting Deity-level battle 141 148.
He remains grateful to his teachers and protectors. He continues addressing Jason as “Lord” long after being invited to treat him as family, finally adopting “Uncle Jason” after reaching Seven Star Fiend strength. Later, he credits Jason with helping him come so far and gives him the Amethyst Iron Crown without demanding payment 174 218 245.
Abilities & Skills
Dragonblood Warrior Transformation
His awakened bloodline grants a dragon-form combat transformation with immense physical durability 147 218.
- Uses claws, punches, and tail strikes in close combat 218.
- As a Midgod, his transformed body rivals a supreme Highgod Artifact 218.
- By the final chapter, his body reaches Sovereign Artifact toughness, enabling him to fight ten Paragons simultaneously 249.
Earth and Wind Cultivation
Linley develops both Earth and Wind magic, with Monica’s teaching preventing the imbalance present in his original-story counterpart 145.
- Earth Pulsation: A principal focus after reaching Saint level 162 164.
- Fast and Slow: Wind Element Profound Mysteries pursued alongside Earth Pulsation 164.
- Wind magic instruction: Monica introduces her improved Wind of Perception, designed for second-level magi and incorporating enhanced detection and close-range attacks 140.
Blackstone Space
Blackstone Space combines adjustable gravitational forces, a solidified castle form, and soul interference 218.
- Attraction and repulsion support his punches and claw strikes, raising their effective strength 218.
- Can assist allies as well as hinder enemies 232.
- Its castle form cuts off Jason’s Arc Flash route and allows Linley to merge into its walls 218.
- Limits: Jason’s movement technique evades its attractive and repulsive forces; effective soul protection resists its mental interference. Its forces also have little effect on Ashcroft’s Nether Serpent body 218 232.
Azure Light and Dragon Roar
His Azure Dragon lineage supplies innate defensive and restraining abilities 174 232.
- Azure Light: Protects his soul; Jason considers it sufficient to place his natural soul defense among the best of the Lowgods 174.
- Dragon Roar: Slows powerful enemies. Wenna takes three seconds to break free, while its lingering effect on Ashcroft enables Jason’s killing strike 232.
- Azure Light, Ink Soul, and the Soul Stone collectively weaken Ashcroft’s Soul Annihilation enough for Linley to survive 232.
Four-Element Soul Mutation
Linley’s soul mutation encompasses earth, water, fire, and wind 244.
- Enables fusion of divine power from different elements 244.
- Three fused Highgod powers already approach Sovereign’s Might while his Fire Clone remains a Midgod 244.
- His strengthened soul can forcibly search another person’s soul without specialized Profound Mysteries 245.
- He reports no perception of the “Laws of Space and Time” Jason had speculated about 244.
Flat Blade Style Stone Sculpting
Doehring Cowart teaches Linley the Flat Blade Style, which becomes both an artistic discipline and part of his cultivation routine 140 143.
- Helps accelerate his spiritual development 145.
- Provides a change of pace from intensive study and meditation 143.
- Does not replace meditation needed to refine magical power 143.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Coiling Dragon Ring — A Soul Defense Sovereign Artifact that initially houses Doehring Cowart’s soul. Jason temporarily receives it to relocate Doehring, then returns it. It later blocks Jason’s soul attacks during their spar 153 154 174 218.
- Purple Blood Sword — A flexible, high-quality Highgod Artifact removed from the Mist Canyon sealing formation. Linley can wrap it around his waist when not in use 147 148.
- Earth-element shield — A wooden divine artifact that houses Doehring after his transfer from the ring. Its presence changes Linley’s fighting style toward sword-and-shield combat 154 164.
- Black jade one-handed longsword — Forged instead of the Black Jade Heavy Sword so he can wield it alongside his shield 164.
- Soul Search scroll — Jason’s necromantic scroll can examine a target below seventh-rank spiritual power. Linley must be at full spiritual strength and prevent violent resistance 153.
- Vine Bind scroll — A Saint-level Life Magic scroll supplied by Jason. Requires no spiritual power to activate and can temporarily restrain a Saint Warrior 153.
- Sovereign Power — The ring contains Water Sovereign Power. Jason later gives Linley a drop of Earth Element Sovereign Power to replace the water-element drop he took and used in Fenlai City 174.
- Soul Stone — Given by Leisjing; contributes to his survival against Soul Annihilation and later Clementine’s attack 232 244.
- Frost Chill and Ink Soul — Temporarily borrowed from Jason during the battle against Wenna and Ashcroft, respectively providing physical and soul defense 232.
- Amethyst Iron Crown — Obtained on the Planar Battlefield and later given to Jason after Linley recognizes its connection to the Red Caltryp Diamond 245.
- Life Divine Sword — An Overgod Artifact claimed in the final chapter and used to kill Teresia 249.
Relationships
- Hogg — Father. Linley initially believes him dead, holds his funeral, and pursues revenge before their later reunion 153 161.
- Wharton — Younger brother. Protecting him is a central motivation; Linley transfers the Baruch Clan’s leadership and Slaughterer to him 143 153.
- Delia — Schoolmate and eventual wife. Saves him seats in Monica’s music class; they later marry and have two children 140 163 228.
- Bebe — Closest companion, linked to him through soul communication. Accompanies him from his school years through his travels and major battles 140 147 238 244.
- Doehring Cowart — Mentor in magic and stone sculpting, affectionately called “Grandpa Doehring.” His return in a new divine-artifact vessel ends Linley’s sense of emptiness after their separation 140 154.
- Monica Rhine — Wind magic teacher and elder figure. Protects Wharton, guides Linley’s development, and regards both brothers as younger siblings 140 142 154 223.
- Jason Rhine — Protector, elder by marriage, benefactor, and eventual battle partner. Their relationship develops from formal deference to Linley calling him “Uncle Jason” 147 153 218 232.
- Veronica Rhine — Baruch relative from an older generation and Wharton’s teacher. Her marriage to Jason connects him to Linley’s family 144 146 147.
- Yale, George, and Reynolds — Dormitory brothers. Yale and George’s deaths drive his pursuit of Odin; Reynolds joins the Gebados Plane expedition 144 238.
- Beirut — Powerful supporter who promises Linley a Divine Spark Weapon upon reaching Highgod level 235.
- Leisjing — Planar Battlefield ally whose Soul Stone helps Linley survive his soul mutation 244.
- Radiant Church — Enemy implicated in the Baruch Clan’s persecution and his mother’s fate. Linley resolves to destroy it 142 161.
