Benevolence Hospital
Meanwhile.
Su Han had just walked out of the hotel.
The streets were in chaos, packed with people, with ambulances and patrol officers coming and going.
He stood by the roadside and tried to flag down a car. It took him a long time to stop a taxi.
The driver was a middle-aged man in his forties, his face weary.
"Where to?" the driver asked.
"Benevolence Private Hospital."
The car started up and pulled onto the street.
As he drove, the driver struck up a conversation.
"Brother, did you hear?"
"The commotion last night scared the life out of me."
Without waiting for Su Han to reply,
the driver carried on by himself.
"I'm telling you, I happened to be picking up fares nearby last night, and I got trapped. I couldn't get out all night."
"First I heard explosions, then I saw a red glow in the sky, like clouds on fire."
"People were running all over the streets. Patrol officers were shouting through loudspeakers, telling everyone to hide and stay inside."
"Then..."
The driver lowered his voice further, a note of terror creeping into it.
"Then I saw a building collapse. A lot of people died. Blood... there was blood everywhere."
"In all my years, I've never seen anything like it."
His hands were shaking as he spoke.
Su Han said nothing, only gazing out the window.
After they had driven for a while, they found the intersection ahead blocked off.
Several patrol officers were directing traffic, and a police cordon had been set up.
"We can't get through," the driver said. "We'll have to go around."
He turned the car around and took another road.
But they hadn't gone far before they were blocked again. Fallen rocks obstructed the road ahead.
"Another detour." The driver sighed.
They went around three or four times like that.
Every time, the road was impassable, either collapsed or sealed off.
Su Han gazed out the window, his heart growing heavier.
As expected of an operation between major powers. In a single night, the entire city center had been reduced to this state.
After another detour, the car finally made it out of the worst-hit area.
The streets gradually returned to normal, and there were more people around.
Twenty minutes later.
The car stopped outside Benevolence Private Hospital.
Su Han paid and got out.
The hospital wasn't large, just a four-story building with white exterior walls.
The sign bore the words "Benevolence Hospital" in large characters.
Several ambulances were parked outside, and medical staff were busy carrying patients in.
There were a lot of people, and it was chaotic.
The surroundings were noisy, filled with cries, screams, and calls for help.
Su Han entered the lobby, looked around, then headed straight for the stairs and began searching.
Su Han searched floor by floor.
He walked slowly, his eyes sweeping over every ward.
Fortunately, the hospital wasn't large, and Su Han soon found a lead in a secluded ward.
Ward 309.
Su Han pushed the door open.
The ward was small, with only one bed. A person lay on it.
It was a woman.
A white blanket covered her body.
But bandages could be seen on the exposed parts, stained through with dried black blood.
She had a breathing tube inserted, and her chest rose and fell ever so faintly.
It was as if she could die at any moment.
Su Han recognized her.
It was his older sister, Su Yuyun.
He couldn't help feeling a pang of heartache.
He hurried forward, went to the bedside, and crouched down.
"Sis," Su Han called out.
The person in the bed didn't respond.
He called again.
This time, that eye moved slightly.
Her eyelids trembled. One eye was swollen, while the other opened slightly.
Her pupil was somewhat unfocused, but it quickly focused.
When she saw Su Han, her pupil contracted sharply.
"Mmm..."
A muffled sound came from her mouth. Her body began to tremble, making the breathing tube shake along with it.
"Don't move." Su Han held her still.
But his sister kept shaking her head desperately, her eye fixed on him as she continued making sounds.
Su Han moved the breathing tube aside a little.
"Run..." His sister struggled to speak, finally forcing out a few words.
"Run, quickly..."
"Don't worry about me..."
"Leave Yunfu District... leave Jinghai City..."
"Run far, far away..."
Her chest rose and fell with every word, and her breathing grew increasingly rapid.
Su Han looked at her, warmth welling up in his heart.
Sure enough.
There really was something wrong with the recording Zhang Qu had given him.
His sister had never identified him.
"It's all right now," Su Han said softly. "I'll take you away."
His sister was still shaking her head, her eye full of anxiety.
But Su Han had already stood up, preparing to check the tubes attached to her.
Just then, the ward door was pushed open.
A nurse came in and froze when she saw Su Han.
"Y-you, who are you?" the nurse asked.
Su Han ignored her and continued checking on his sister.
The nurse came to her senses and hurried over.
"What are you doing?! The patient..."
Before she could finish,
Su Han's figure flashed.
Before she knew it, he was right in front of her, one hand clamping around her throat in an instant.
The nurse looked at Su Han, her face full of terror.
"Ah, don't kill me! Please don't kill me..."
"I'm asking you," Su Han said. "What's the story with this patient?"
The nurse shook her head frantically and struggled to answer.
"I-I don't know..."
"The director said she was in a car accident and was brought here for treatment."
"But her family had no money, so she wasn't treated. She's just been left here to die."
Seeing that she didn't know much, Su Han immediately pressed her.
"Where's the director?"
"In the office at the other end of the corridor..."
Su Han nodded, then knocked the young nurse unconscious with a palm strike.
Then he left the ward and walked down the corridor.
At the end was an office with its door closed.
Su Han pushed the door open.
A middle-aged man in a white coat sat inside, reading a document.
Sensing the man's aura, Su Han found that he was actually a practitioner of Secret Martial Arts.
But his realm was only Baodan.
The man was startled to see Su Han enter, then frowned.
"Who are you?"
"This is the director's office. You can't just come in."
Su Han closed the door.
"Are you the director?"
"Yes." The man stood up. "What do you want?"
"What's the story with the patient in ward 309?"
The man's expression changed, and his voice immediately turned cold.
"That's hospital business. It has nothing to do with you."
"Now please leave immediately."
"If you don't leave, don't blame me for calling security."
Su Han looked at him and chose a more direct approach.
He took a step and was already in front of the man.
His right hand shot out and seized the man by the throat, pinning him against the wall.
"I ask, you answer."
The man's eyes widened, and he tried to struggle.
But with his throat gripped, he couldn't move at all.
"You... you dare attack someone in a hospital..."
"Crack!"
Su Han pressed down on one of his fingers with his left hand and snapped it.
The man let out a scream.
"I'll ask again. What's the story with the patient?"
"It-it was the hospital president's instruction..." Cold sweat poured down the man's face from the pain. "Just make sure she doesn't die. Don't worry about anything else..."
"Where's the hospital president?"
"Fourth floor, the office..."
Su Han nodded and released him.
The man slumped to the floor, gasping for breath.
Su Han turned and left the office.
About a minute later.
Sounds came from the office.
The man struggled to his feet, went to the desk, picked up the landline, and dialed a number.
"President, someone's come looking for the patient in 309."
A deep, cold voice immediately came from the other end.
"I'll send someone to handle it. They'll be there right away."
"All right, I understand."
The call ended.
The man breathed a sigh of relief and turned to sit down.
But as soon as he turned, he saw Su Han standing in the doorway, staring fixedly at him.
"Y-you!" The man's face changed drastically.
But before he could react,
Su Han had already lunged forward, driving a punch into his chest.
"Bang!"
A bloody hole burst open in the man's chest, and he spewed blood.
His eyes widened, and he fell to the floor, dead.
Su Han withdrew his fist, turned, and walked out of the office.
