History

Rule of Bifang Commandery

The Bi Household initially governs five counties: Fire Crow, Black Crane, Cuckoo, Wildebeest, and Pit Viper. Following the Du Household’s destruction, the Ya Household occupies Cuckoo County and renames it Cuckoo Town, temporarily reducing the number of functioning counties to four 95.

Although its heritage exceeds a millennium, Bifang Commandery is comparatively newly developed beside Qinggeng Commandery. Its smaller number of counties and weaker subordinate lineages leave it with a shallower regional foundation 359 451.

Southern Mountains Campaign

The household launches an offensive against the Demon Race in the mountains south of Demon-Suppressing Pass. During the campaign, a demon undergoes a lightning tribulation and reaches the Fifth Tier, only to be swiftly killed by a Bi Household True Lord 104 106.

The victory makes further settlement in the southern mountains more feasible. The Kong Household consequently begins preparing to establish Peacock County after allowing several years for conditions to settle 107.

First Invasion and the Defense of Black Crane County

Bi cultivators fight beside the He Household when Demon Race forces and True Martial World martial cultivators invade the Mystic Crane Secret Realm. Water shaman opponents weaken the Bi Household’s fire-based combat power, contributing to a deteriorating situation that requires reinforcements from the county lineages 321.

During the counteroffensive, the household uses the Bifang True Spirit Star projection, the Commandery Governor’s Official Seal, and Bifang Dao Soldiers to support its troops. It subsequently leads a commandery-wide assault on the True Martial Hall to stop the invaders from plundering Origin Fragments 325 326 335.

Qinggeng Relief Campaign and Defensive Reform

The Bi Household joins the Kong, Ya, and Jiao Households in an expedition to aid Qinggeng Commandery. Its agreement with the Geng Household offers Origin, merit, and medicinal-pill rewards for killing or expelling the invaders 359.

The campaign exposes weaknesses in Bifang’s forces: at Azure Sparrow County, its contingent initially trails the Qinggeng, Zhuyan, and Huodou contingents in kills and progress toward the enemy’s True Martial Hall 372.

After witnessing Qinggeng’s Origin-protecting formation, the Bi Household prepares its own commandery-wide defense: the Myriad Fires All-Encompassing Origin-Fortifying Grand Array. Securing the county lineages’ cooperation—particularly that of the wary Ya Household—is a major obstacle 404.

Second Invasion and Fifth-Grade Promotion

When the Black Crane True Spirit Star falls, the Bi Household uses its fragments to divert invading enemies into the Mystic Crane Secret Realm. This temporarily protects Black Crane County while the household summons reinforcements 448.

The household deliberately preserves the rift connecting the secret realm to the Heavenly Demon Grotto-Heaven as a potential counterattack route. To sustain the prolonged defense, it opens a merit-exchange treasury and offers access to its normally restricted cultivation ground 451 452 471.

The invasion escalates when Fifth-Tier enemies widen the breach and lead more than one hundred thousand attackers into the realm. Bi Zongcheng calls down the Bifang True Spirit’s Calamity Fire, while the county leaders activate their subsidiary formations 460.

After victory, the household seals the rift with starlight and pays the promised fivefold compensation for the dead and wounded. It then advances to Fifth Grade and holds a promotion celebration six months later 471 474 475.

Expansion and Counterattack

Following its promotion, the household supports five additional lineages in Star Inlaying, enlarges Bifang Commandery’s territory, and expands its capital. Six years later, the city has become more prosperous and attracted additional cultivators and bloodline households 480 483.

Divine Lord Bi Sitong later reopens the sealed rift and leads the first wave of the Bifang, Qinggeng, and Huodou alliance into the Heavenly Demon Grotto-Heaven. At Spirit Taming Pass, Bi cultivators face Bifang demons whose bloodline matches their own 521 525.

After the pass is rebuilt, the household establishes quarters in its eastern district and helps organize elite teams to hunt scattered Demon Race forces. Bi Yanhong recruits Kong Wenxuan for these missions and later invites him to join a Vermilion Bird Royal Court operation 555 599 600.

Governance and Influence

Commandery Administration

• Household officials: Bi members occupy the commandery’s administrative offices. Its delegation to the Kong Household’s housewarming includes Golden Core revenue chief Bi Yanshu and six Purple Mansion officials 229.
• Revenue authority: Bi Yanshu directs the Kong Household to complete its tax-revenue handover through the revenue office 229.
• Military mobilization: The household summons county True Spirit Lineages and servant cultivator households for commandery-wide campaigns 335 448.
• Protected dependents: Servant cultivator households pay taxes, provide service, and answer military orders in exchange for Bi protection 160.
• Limits of policing: Repeated bandit suppression produces only temporary peace. Suspected bandits often belong to protected servant households, making punishment difficult without direct evidence 160.

• Prefecture-wide network: Its caravans travel among Extended Net Moon Deer Prefecture’s commanderies and reach the prefectural capital, purchasing goods originating in other prefectures and regions 282.
• Commercial monopoly: The household controls Bifang Commandery’s trade in prefectural-capital goods. Other commandery lineages may sell their own specialties locally but do not intrude on this business 282.
• Selective access: Inviting the Kong Household into its caravan opens a limited exception to that monopoly and deliberately cultivates closer ties 282.
• Dependent participation: The He, Lao, and Egret Lu Households accompany its caravans both to serve the Bi Household and to conduct their own trade 486.
• Expanded interests: At its Fifth-Grade celebration, the household places second in the inter-lineage Law discussion, behind the Chongming Ming Household and ahead of the Qinggeng Geng Household. The results influence the division of prefectural trade routes and other interests 480.

Sponsored True Spirit Lineages

Myriad Fires All-Encompassing Origin-Fortifying Grand Array

A commandery-spanning formation designed to secure Origin Fragments, strengthen defenses, and nurture fire-related cultivation resources 404 451 452.

• Structure: A Bi-controlled parent formation linked to county subsidiary formations and numerous arrays across the intervening mountains and rivers 406 409.
• County control: Peacock County’s subformation is operated through its magistrate’s official seal rather than a separate control plate 408.
• Construction: Bi Qingqing’s team completes Peacock County’s subformation in four months, using a fire pool connected to the Kong Household’s Five Elements Grand Formation as its core array eye 408.
