Background / History
Chu Feng is a transmigrator whose memories of novels, comics, martial arts, and religious scriptures become the basis of his teaching. Before gaining cultivation, he displays exceptional aptitude for miscellaneous arts: academy elders recall that he learned skills after watching them once and surpassed Chief Kong in a hundred arts within a year. His inability to cultivate eventually eclipsed that earlier reputation 21 30 80 151.
At the beginning of the story, he heads the low-ranked Miscellaneous Dao Institute and seeks a disciple to prevent its disbandment. He offers to accept the crippled Xiao Chen so that the young man can remain at Dao-Seeking Academy. The Disciple Acceptance System activates during this visit, creating a route to cultivation through recruiting and teaching disciples 1 4.
His first teaching problem is that he possesses accumulated cultivation but does not actually know how to cultivate. He responds by adapting remembered fictional techniques, initially regarding the process as bluffing. As his disciples succeed, their achievements grant him genuine mastery, and he begins researching the world’s Dao rules to make increasingly specialized methods workable 4 8 123.
Appearance
- Youthful and handsome: Described as a young man whose looks and bearing stand out even among cultivators 149 160 200.
- Scholarly dress: Wears a scholar’s headscarf and carries a folding fan or feather fan, giving him the appearance of a noble young master 200 492.
- Restrained presence: Can appear like an ordinary mortal without the slightest cultivation despite being a Half-Saint 204.
Personality
Chu Feng openly prefers comfort to danger. Early on, he plans to gain cultivation through disciples so that he can live an idle life rather than pursue battles or fortuitous encounters. Fishing, reading, tea, cooking, wine, and sleeping late remain recurring pleasures even after he becomes powerful 4 88 196 285 540.
His confidence combines theatrical promises, teasing, and a strong concern for looking impressive. He privately recognizes familiar protagonist patterns in Xiao Chen’s circumstances and uses sweeping assurances to encourage his disciples. He also considers the Extreme Dao Divine Fist insufficiently graceful for his preferred image, despite acknowledging its strength 4 5 80 191.
Beneath the jokes, he is protective and attentive to individual needs. He refuses to treat a disciple’s life as his property, encourages rest alongside training, and helps students resolve emotional obstacles as well as technical ones. His willingness to confront stronger factions on their behalf becomes a defining part of his reputation 3 11 148 190 328.
His caution does not disappear with his strength. After defeating the Hongyuan Continent’s Three Ancestors, he acknowledges that their incomplete cultivation system and imperfect domain mastery helped make his victory possible 656.
Abilities & Skills
Disciple Acceptance System
The system converts his disciples’ achievements into personal cultivation and mastery 4 8 77.
- Recruitment rewards: Accepting Xiao Chen supplies his initial ten years of cultivation 4.
- Breakthrough rewards: Disciples’ realm advances grant accumulated cultivation; later achievements can grant True Essence of the Great Dao 26 185 638.
- Amplified mastery: Xiao Chen’s success with Ten Thousand Swords Return to the Origin gives Chu Feng the technique at Great Perfection through a tenfold reward 8.
- Physique acquisition: Disciples’ awakenings can grant corresponding physiques and intents to Chu Feng 285 303.
- Creation restriction: Wang Baole’s progress in the Five Elements Art gives no reward because Chu Feng did not create that art 77.
- Indirect teaching rewards: Xiao Chen’s guidance of his own disciples also produces rewards for Chu Feng 638.
Technique Creation and Individualized Teaching
Chu Feng adapts remembered material to a disciple’s constitution, interests, and circumstances. His later process includes consulting the institute’s library and revising ideas to fit the world’s Great Dao 29 72 123.
| Creation / Teaching | Purpose and Method |
|---|---|
| Ten Thousand Swords Return to the Origin | Adapted from Fengyun for Xiao Chen, whose lost cultivation satisfies the technique’s unusual prerequisite. It also requires exceptional Sword Dao talent 21. |
| Chaos Body Refining Art | Created for Cao Youqian’s cultivation difficulties by combining remembered fantasy body-refining methods. Divided into Five Elements Body Refining and Yin-Yang Body Refining 29 30. |
| Extreme Dao Divine Fist | Directs Cao Youqian to develop his bodily potential, comprehend different Fist Intents, and fuse the strengths of many schools 61. |
| Food-based cultivation | Guides Wang Baole toward a path matching his love of eating and develops techniques associated with the Ice and Fire Immortal Chef 72 77. |
| Confucian cultivation guidance | Uses the Analects of Swinging, martial practice, and the six arts to challenge Xu Caichen’s rigid book learning 152. |
| Lord Lao’s Heart Sutra of Purity and Tranquility | Inscribed on Dao jade over forty-nine days to help his disciples stabilize their Dao hearts 329. |
| Abnormal Fire Artifact Refining Method | Synthesizes Great Sage Thunderclap’s forging method with a body-tempering method; recorded on a jade slip for Rocket Turtle 351. |
- Teaching philosophy: Cultivation should suit the disciple, rather than forcing every student into the same method 72.
- Practical instruction: Incorporates cooking, chopping firewood, and observing nature into cultivation lessons 11.
- Independence: Expects disciples to acquire resources and gain real combat experience once ready 100.
- Limits of presentation: His attempt to write the Thirty-Six Heavenly Transformations repeatedly sets the paper on fire, forcing him to seek help 310.
Sword Dao
Chu Feng possesses Great Perfection Sword Intent early in his development and later advances to True Essence of Sword Dao and Dao-derived sword arts 27 96 583.
- Ten Thousand Swords Return to the Origin: Commands masses of swords and combines their Sword Qi into a single attack. Against Diwu Qingyun, he summons swords from within a hundred li, including the opponent’s nine holy swords 150.
- Invincible Sword Dao: Identifies his path as an invincible sword that cuts down whatever stands in its way; teaches Xiao Chen to forge an invincible sword heart through victory 29.
- Taiji Sword Technique: Demonstrates yin-yang principles and a measure of True Essence of Sword Dao for Xiao Chen and Bing Yan 88 105.
- Large-scale suppression: Destroys Great Sage Sacred Heart’s massed Buddhist manifestations with one sword strike 370.
- Law-infused swordsmanship: Gathers the Laws of the Great Dao onto his divine sword when confronting the Three Ancestors’ domains 655.
Fist Arts and Taiji
- Extreme Dao Divine Fist: Produces exceptionally fierce fist force and Fist Intent; Chu Feng considers its power comparable to Ten Thousand Swords Return to the Origin 80.
- Taiji Fist: Draws upon yin, yang, and the five elements. During his renewed practice, he controls their power within one li and becomes one with his surroundings 80.
- Defensive application: Uses Taiji against Diwu Qingyun’s sword formation, dispersing its starlight and violently shaking its swords 150.
Physiques and Regeneration
Chu Feng accumulates multiple physiques through system rewards rather than relying on a single constitution 96 583.
- Early perfected physiques: Heaven-Collapsing Physique, Tyrant Divine Physique, and Void Physique 96.
- Later recorded physiques: Primordial Chaos Divine Physique, Wenqu Divine Physique, Prison-Suppressing Divine Physique, and Longevity Dao Physique 583.
- Indestructible Divine Physique: Acquired at major completion through Fang Mu’s breakthrough 303.
- Undying and Indestructible: Allows rebirth through Nirvana while a drop of blood or strand of divine sense survives. Before perfection, an opponent capable of annihilating the surviving remnant can still kill its practitioner 303.
- Demonstrated durability: Takes Great Sage Tianhui’s palm strike without visible injury or concern 534.
Eye of World Destruction and Fortune Reading
- Recorded mastery: Reaches major completion by the time Chu Feng has 500 years of cultivation, and later reaches Dao derivation 96 583.
- Fortune inspection: Reveals the colors, scale, and changes within another person’s fortune 374.
- Destiny diagnosis: Identifies Shi Xuan as a Great Villain of Destiny by observing black fortune consuming his purple-gold fortune and considering his circumstances 374.
- Interpretive guidance: Explains how a Great Villain of Destiny can seize a different future by defeating a Child of Destiny and absorbing that person’s fortune 374.
Primordial Chaos and the Great Dao
- Primordial Chaos purple qi: Purifies his spiritual power and is used to cleanse his body after he acquires major mastery of the Primordial Chaos Creation Art 174.
- Primordial Great Dao: Chooses an “all things returning to one” path after recognizing Sword Dao and Fist Dao as branches of the three thousand Great Daos 143.
- Fusion over specialization: During his later deduction, refuses to abandon the other Great Daos in favor of a single path and decides to merge them 582.
- Divine King cultivation: Compresses Dao Resonance into divine power, which gathers in his sea of consciousness as Divine Spark fragments 656.
Divine Sparks and True God Totems
After becoming a Divine King, Chu Feng can convert every 99 points of Dao Resonance into one Divine Spark fragment. Nine fragments form a Divine Spark, which can be used to derive a True God Totem 658.
- Totem function: Each totem acts as a counterpart of its owner controlling a different power 658.
- Final documented achievement: Derives twelve totems after accumulating twelve Divine Sparks over a century 674.
- Identified forms: Include a Taiji-bearing Dao Ancestor figure, a sword-wielding figure, a muscular fist-oriented figure, an Abnormal Fire and pill-furnace figure, an Eye of World Destruction figure, a Primordial Chaos figure, and a book-and-wine-bearing Confucian figure 674.
- Resource cost: Deriving the first three exhausts his divine power, requiring a pill and recovery before he continues 674.
Miscellaneous Arts, Scriptures, and Fire Control
- Hundred arts: Excels in music, chess, calligraphy, painting, tea, cooking, farming, and raising pigs 151.
- Cooking: An accomplished cook in both lives; uses food preparation to teach balance and precise control of Sword Intent 11.
