Personality

Qian Daoliu is stern, devout, and intolerant of disrespect toward the Angel God. He treats the Worship Hall as sacred ground and uses overwhelming Soul Power to discipline Qian Xunling for his irreverence. His anger can exceed his intentions: after injuring his son, he privately recognizes that he may have struck too hard 5 6.

His concern for Qian Xunling often takes a controlling form. He confines the gifted child to Spirit City and plans around his future as the Angel God’s successor. Nevertheless, when Qian Xunling is endangered, Qian Daoliu abandons deliberation and personally searches for him, later fighting Tang Chen over the attack 6 31 35.

He respects conviction even in opponents. Chen Jianjun’s willingness to risk death for his sword path reminds him of his own commitment to the God Trial, prompting him to answer with a stronger technique. That respect does not make him sentimental: after the duel, he offers a possible route to treatment but leaves Chen Jianjun’s survival to others 41 42.

Family brings out a markedly softer side. He longs for grandchildren, becomes openly affectionate toward Qian Ningxue, and accepts his Soul Beast daughters-in-law while insisting that they coexist peacefully with humans. His high moral standards also make him reluctant to initiate war or damage Spirit Hall’s reputation 66 96 97 112.

Family Estrangement and Qian Xunling’s Departure

Qian Daoliu’s wife died giving birth to Qian Xunling. Golden Crocodile later confronts him over whether lingering blame for her death explains his harsh treatment of their younger son. From childhood, Qian Daoliu recognizes Qian Xunling’s extraordinary talent, forbids him from leaving Spirit City, and treats him as the intended successor to the Angel God 6.

Their estrangement erupts into open conflict in the Worship Hall. Qian Daoliu’s pressure forces Qian Xunling to one knee and makes him cough blood before Golden Crocodile intervenes. Qian Xunling subsequently rejects his offer of the Pope’s position and escapes Spirit City with Bibi Dong. Although Qian Daoliu detects the disappearance, he orders the others to let him go 5 6.

Conflict with Tang Chen

After sensing the Angel God’s intervention in Heaven Dou City, Qian Daoliu initially orders the worshippers to investigate and recover Qian Xunling. His anxiety quickly overtakes that plan, and he decides to go himself 31.

According to Yu Yuanzhen’s report, Qian Daoliu learns that Tang Chen attacked his son and fights him in a battle that destroys half of Heaven Dou City, including the imperial palace. Both men suffer grave injuries. The clash breaks down a relationship previously marked by brotherly friendship and an agreement between them 35 65.

Duel with Chen Jianjun

Chen Jianjun comes to Spirit City seeking a battle to advance his sword path. Qian Daoliu warns that their Soul Power gap may make the attempt fatal, but accepts his determination and moves the duel outside the city to avoid damage 41.

He counters Chen Jianjun’s Seven Kill True Body with Angel’s Punishment. When Chen Jianjun stakes everything on Ten Thousand Swords Return to the Sect and begs him to use his full strength, Qian Daoliu replaces Angel’s Light with Angel’s Breath. The attack consumes the incoming sword Qi and engulfs Chen Jianjun 41.

Afterward, Qian Daoliu explains that he cannot withdraw Angel Soul Power once it has entered another person’s meridians. He suggests seeking treatment in Spirit City, then leaves. Chen Jianjun survives and later meets him again on Sea God Island 42 69.

Hunting the Deep Sea Demonic Whale King

Qian Xunling returns to Spirit Hall seeking help obtaining the Deep Sea Demonic Whale King’s Soul Ring. Qian Daoliu initially refuses, but reconsiders after learning that Bo Saixi will participate in exchange for Qian Xunling’s position as a partial Sea God inheritor. He agrees on the condition that his son give him a grandchild within three years 65 66.

During the hunt, Qian Daoliu and Bo Saixi confront the whale after Qian Xunling draws it out with the Vast Sea Cosmic Shroud. Qian Daoliu’s sacred attacks injure it, but its resilience and human-form assault expose the limits of his defenses 70 71.

Despite being severely disadvantaged underwater, he holds the whale back while Bo Saixi prepares Sea Burial. He spends stored Angel Divine Power to intercept its escape and risks grave injury to secure the Soul Ring for his son. Once the whale is trapped, he contributes Angel’s Breath to the finishing assault 72 73.

He celebrates Qian Xunling’s successful absorption with an unusually spontaneous embrace. Their reunion is short-lived: after Qian Xunling kisses Bo Saixi and escapes her retaliation, Qian Daoliu returns to Spirit Hall determined to find him 74 75.

Welcoming Qian Ningxue and His Daughters-in-Law

Qian Xunling later returns with the Snow Empress, Ice Empress, and Qian Ningxue. Qian Daoliu initially recognizes the two women as powerful Soul Beasts and becomes wary, but his granddaughter’s arrival immediately changes his mood. He senses their blood connection, eagerly holds her, and introduces himself as her grandfather 96.

He approves a wedding for Qian Xunling and both women. Although conscious that their identities could provoke opposition, he promises to protect them as members of the Qian Family, provided they do not persecute humans 97. He subsequently stands with the other worshippers beneath the Angel God Statue during the wedding 101.

Renewed War with Tang Chen

Qian Xunling warns that Tang Chen is pursuing the Asura God’s inheritance in Slaughter City and could return stronger than Qian Daoliu. Although initially reluctant to act against his former friend, Qian Daoliu ultimately allows his son to direct preparations against the Clear Sky Sect 98.

After the sect’s destruction, Tang Chen attacks Spirit City. Qian Daoliu takes the lead in intercepting him away from the population, but finds himself overpowered by Tang Chen’s strengthened hammer attacks 108.

The allies move the battle to the Far North through Qian Xunling’s wormholes. Qian Daoliu helps force Tang Chen through the first portal, then fights alongside his family and the Deep Sea Demonic Whale King. He suffers further injuries while opposing Tang Chen’s Ring Detonation attacks 109 110.

When Tang Chen escapes, Qian Daoliu pursues him until Qian Xunling warns that the enemy’s remaining strength suggests divine assistance. He agrees to mobilize Spirit Hall to locate Tang Chen and the surviving Clear Sky Sect elders, but remains reluctant to make Spirit Hall the aggressor in a wider war 111 112.
