The Battle at Vampire Headquarters (1)
The vampire headquarters was a thirteen-story building, with an exterior design that drew partly on the style of medieval castles.
The car stopped by the roadside outside the building, and Xiahou watched people walking back and forth inside. If not for the conspicuous health bars above their heads, anyone would have thought it was just an ordinary office building.
After observing it over the past few days, Xiahou had figured out the rules for seeing other people's health bars. The bars only appeared above their heads when they harbored ill will toward him or were clearly hostile to him.
Vampires, however, harbored ill will toward all humans. So even though it wasn't directed at Xiahou personally, he could still see their health bars.
As Xiahou marveled at how he had become a vampire detector, he said to the other three, "Everyone in this building seems to be a vampire. At least, every single person I've seen so far is one!"
After hearing that, Blade checked his pistol and darts. "Then there's no need to hold back. Let's kill them all!"
Hannibal and Abigail each checked their equipment again, then said in unison, "Let's go!"
The four walked shoulder to shoulder toward the building, their steps steady. Sunlight fell on them, casting four long shadows.
As soon as they entered the lobby, two vampires on guard duty spotted them. The vampires exchanged a wary glance and stepped forward, preparing to ask what the uninvited visitors wanted.
But they had barely moved, and before they could speak, a cold glint flashed, followed by two muffled gunshots.
"Bang! Bang!"
The shots rang out almost simultaneously, as if the triggers had been pulled by the same person. The two vampires didn't even have time to scream before the sudden bullets struck them. They instantly turned to ash and scattered into the air.
Seeing this, Xiahou and the other two behind Blade were just as quick to act. They attacked at the same time in perfect coordination, their weapons glinting coldly as they struck like lightning at the other vampires, who had yet to react.
In an instant, flashes of fire and gunshots filled the lobby. Bullets whistled through the air, tracing deadly paths; flames roared like raging dragons, engulfing the vampires.
The sudden battle plunged the entire lobby into chaos and slaughter.
Before long, however, every vampire in the lobby had been wiped out, without causing the four any trouble.
The four headed straight for the elevator, intending to take it directly to the top floor.
The vampires on the other floors had already heard the gunshots from the first floor. Seeing the elevator rising, they hurried to pass the news to the upper floors.
After hearing the news from her men, Danica said to Drake, who stood by the window gazing down at the street, "Someone's attacking us. It's probably Blade and his people. They're coming up in the elevator now!"
Drake walked over to a nearby cabinet and took his weapon from the sword rack: a one-handed sword resembling a Tang saber. He also slipped a single-arm guard onto his left arm.
"Let's go! Let's give our Daywalker a proper welcome!" With that, Drake led the way toward the elevator on their floor.
Danica hurried after him with her men, secretly pleased with herself. Blade, you're definitely dead this time. You actually came right to our door.
Inside the elevator, Xiahou looked speechlessly at the other three and complained, "Seriously! Is it really okay for us to take the elevator so openly? Aren't we going to have dozens of guns pointed at us as soon as the doors open?"
Blade said nothing, but his expression said, I don't care!
Hannibal and Abigail pointed at Blade's back, indicating that they were following him and Xiahou should ask him.
"All right! You guys are something else! Then I don't care either! I'll revive anyway!" As Xiahou spoke, he stepped forward and stood beside Blade, shielding the other two behind them.
With a soft ding, the elevator reached the thirteenth floor, and the doors slowly opened.
But outside the doors, there weren't dozens of guns trained on them as Xiahou had imagined.
Although dozens of people were watching them, none of them drew their guns.
When Drake, who stood at their head, saw Blade, he spoke at once. "Blade, I told you that the next time we met, I'd pit my blade against yours! We'll see who the true god is! Ready to die?"
Blade simply raised a middle finger and spat out, "Born ready, motherfucker!"
Beside him, Xiahou silently complained, I really shouldn't have expected anything. Are these people all idiots? Or does the plot require them to talk tough before the fight and then openly engage in hand-to-hand combat?
Hannibal quietly reached behind his waist and touched an ultraviolet grenade hanging there.
As Blade and Drake rushed toward each other, he pulled the pin and threw it.
Seeing Hannibal's unsporting move, Danica cursed, "King Hannibal! You bitch!"
At the same time, she dove behind a nearby cabinet.
A purple radiance flashed. Aside from the few vampires who reacted and found cover,
the rest burned from the inside out, turning into piles of ash.
Blade and Drake paid them no mind. Both were vampires who weren't afraid of sunlight, and they were slashing at each other. Blade, however, was deliberately keeping Drake occupied and drawing him elsewhere.
Xiahou watched the two fight their way farther and farther away, and said to Hannibal, "Nice work! Let's deal with these ordinary vampires first, then go help Blade!"
An arrow flew past his eyes and struck a vampire preparing to ambush him. At the same time, Abigail's voice rang out: "Don't get distracted, Xiahou!"
Xiahou and Hannibal said no more and attacked the vampires as they showed themselves.
But as they fought, vampires from the other floors began converging on the thirteenth floor in a steady stream.
After killing another vampire, Xiahou said to the other two, "I'll go block the stairwell. I'm leaving this place to you!"
The two simply replied, "Go!" Then they continued dodging the bullets fired by the vampires and returning fire. Their battle had left the entire thirteenth floor in ruins.
Xiahou went to the stairwell and repeatedly emptied his magazines at the densely packed vampires charging up. Against these ordinary vampires, he had no need for Blue Rose's charged mode. As long as he hit a vital point, one shot was enough for each of them.
But although vampires sometimes acted stupid, they weren't actually stupid! They fired wildly at Xiahou with the pistols and various submachine guns in their hands.
The fire was so intense that Xiahou didn't dare show his head. At the same time, he grumbled inwardly, This isn't how it was in the movie! Weren't the ones in the movie all idiots who only knew how to charge mindlessly into melee?
Even when they occasionally fired a gun, they only showed off their ability to shoot around their targets! How come these people's firepower is so fierce?
Seeing that Xiahou no longer dared show himself, the vampires swarmed up the stairs again.
