Personality
Tang San is reserved, disciplined, and methodical. At Nuoding Academy, he avoids public boasting and steadily practices under Yu Xiaogang's guidance. He studies unfamiliar history and factions attentively and later endures Shrek's demanding physical training without complaint 9 15 36.
His loyalty to his teacher is especially strong. He follows Yu Xiaogang's cultivation advice closely, welcomes his arrival at Shrek, and directly confronts Lin Chen when he believes his teacher is being insulted 10 36 45. He is also capable of accepting responsibility: after Shrek's forest defeat, he reassures Ning Rongrong and attributes the loss to his own insufficient strength and failure to anticipate Lin Chen's spatial skill 50.
Competition with Lin Chen brings out both his resilience and his pride. Their departure from Nuoding is marked by mutual recognition rather than hostility, but the widening gap repeatedly frustrates him. Defeats drive him to train harder rather than withdraw 18 46 53 73.
His protectiveness toward Shrek can override his judgment. He defends the academy's internal affairs despite recognizing that Ma Hongjun has been harassing Jiang Zhu, then proposes a wager involving whether Lin Chen may intervene. During the resulting spar, he escalates to a lethal poison weapon that endangers nearby classmates, drawing condemnation from Xiao Wu and Tai Nuo 128 129 132 133.
Abilities & Skills
Twin Martial Souls
Tang San possesses Blue Silver Grass and the Clear Sky Hammer, but primarily develops and publicly uses the former 1 36.
- Blue Silver Grass: His main Control System Martial Soul, used for binding, poisoning, concealment, and battlefield management 15 73 131.
- Clear Sky Hammer: A black hammer with ancient markings and a heavy, imposing presence. Tang Hao instructs him to keep it secret and avoid using it lightly 2.
- Backlash risk: Twin Martial Souls carry a cultivation risk that Yu Xiaogang later acknowledges while arranging to supervise him at Shrek 36.
- Unrevealed combat option: Tang San considers using the hammer's Power Attack strength against Lin Chen, but does not reveal it during their later garden duel 117 133.
Blue Silver Grass Soul Skills
| Soul Skill | Ring Source | Applications and Limits |
|---|---|---|
| First Soul Skill: Entanglement | Four-hundred-year Mandala Snake | Binds targets with Blue Silver Grass and incorporates the snake's poison. Lin Chen can repel the vines and purify their poison with Chaos Soul Power 14 15. |
| Second Soul Skill: Parasite | Six-hundred-year Ghost Vine | Conceals Blue Silver Grass seeds inside an enemy, then causes them to sprout into restraints at a chosen moment 17. |
| Third Soul Skill: Spider Web Restraint | Two-thousand-year Man Faced Demon Spider | Restrains opponents over a wide area and carries a paralyzing toxin, expanding both the reach and strength of his battlefield control 73. |
Additional applications include:
- Obstructing an opponent's view with spreading vegetation 16 29.
- Creating curtains of grass and pollen that interfere with vision and Soul Power sensing 131.
- Wrapping himself in a replenishing grass cocoon to force a passage through a suppression domain, at the cost of more than half his Soul Power 131.
Mysterious Heaven Skill
His internal cultivation method supports both steady advancement and the circulation of power under pressure 15 73.
- Reaches its third level during his years at Nuoding Academy 17.
- Refines the violent, venom-laced energy of his third Soul Ring 73.
- Can be driven to its limit to briefly force an opening against Lin Chen's concentrated suppression domain 131.
Purple Demon Eye
An ocular technique used to observe movements, locate openings, and aim Hidden Weapons 12 43.
- Tracks a Mandala Snake's movements during his first Soul Ring hunt 12.
- Supports precise attacks through gaps in Yu Tianheng's lightning 43.
- Cannot reliably follow Lin Chen's spatial movement or penetrate his Chaos concealment 48 49 131.
- Suffers a mental backlash inside Lin Chen's concentrated suppression domain 130.
Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track
An elusive movement technique built around light steps, rapid changes of direction, and unpredictable positioning 7.
- Integrates with his hand techniques to provide both offense and defense 7.
- Allows him to narrowly evade Zhao Wuji's Great Strength Vajra Palm 27.
- Helps him reposition around stronger opponents, though concentrated suppression can disrupt its rhythm 16 130.
Mysterious Jade Hand
A hand-strengthening technique that produces a faint jade sheen when driven to its limit 12.
- At beginner level, allows him to crush ordinary stones 7.
- Supports forceful grappling and direct strikes 7 12.
- Disperses much of the force from a Soul Saint's attack, but cannot prevent serious injury from the remaining impact 28.
Controlling Crane Capturing Dragon
A Tang Sect grappling and force-manipulation technique 7 15.
- Uses wrist catches, pressure-point attacks, and joint control in close combat 7 122 131.
- Can exert an invisible pulling force to disturb an opponent's balance 15.
- Combines with Blue Silver Grass tension to propel him into an attack 48.
- Helps him defeat the physically stronger Tai Long at close range 119 120 122.
Hidden Weapon Mastery and Battlefield Control
Tang San combines concealed projectiles with restraints, poison, and precise timing rather than relying solely on Soul Power 15 43 74.
- Attacks during the transition between an opponent's movements or bursts of power 43 48.
- Targets joints and vulnerable areas to create openings for teammates 43 44.
- Coordinates particularly well with Tuo Mushuo's poison techniques in their “Thousand-Handed Hell” doubles partnership 73.
- His control is highly effective against peers, but Lin Chen's shield, suppression, and spatial movement repeatedly counter it 48 49 130.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Twenty Four Moonlit Bridges — Worn at his waist; he retrieves Dragon Whisker Needles from it during Shrek's admission assessment 29.
- Sleeve Arrows — Concealed projectiles used alongside Blue Silver Grass. An arrow to Yu Feng's calf slows him enough for Zhu Zhuqing to follow up 15 44.
- Flying Locust Stones — Thrown in coordinated patterns at vulnerable targets such as the face, throat, and chest 15.
- Bone-Piercing Needles — Fine needles used for precise attacks. Hits to Yu Tianheng's waist and knee cause numbness and briefly slow his movements 43.
- Dragon Whisker Needles — Golden, hair-fine weapons made from threads found in Plate Crystal. Designed to penetrate protective Soul Power and cause internal damage; nevertheless, Lin Chen's Chaos Shield stops them 29 131.
- Godly Zhuge Crossbow — A black crossbow loaded with sixteen armor-piercing bolts. Its anesthetic-coated ammunition can penetrate a Soul Elder's protective Soul Power; Tang San also uses it during his third Soul Ring hunt 49 73.
- Mother-Child Soul-Chasing Life-Taking Orb — Paired iron orbs that collide and burst, releasing anesthetic fog and hundreds of steel needles coated with bone-dissolving and paralytic toxins. Its speed and destructive reach increase with the user's Soul Power. Lin Chen contains its release during their garden duel to protect bystanders 132 133.
History
Holy Soul Village and Awakening
Tang San grows up in Holy Soul Village with his father, Tang Hao, whose home is a dilapidated smithy. At the village awakening ceremony, he reveals Blue Silver Grass and Innate Full Soul Power while quietly concealing the Clear Sky Hammer in his other hand. After seeing the hammer at home, Tang Hao orders him to keep it secret and exercise caution with Soul Rings 1 2.
He already possesses Tang Sect techniques at this age. Lin Chen later recognizes that Tang San's technical expertise reflects two lifetimes spent studying those arts 7 16.
Nuoding Academy
Su Yuntao provides Tang San with a recommendation to Yu Xiaogang, whom he accepts as his teacher. In Dorm Seven, Tang San challenges Lin Chen to a restrained, Martial Soul-free spar, establishing their rivalry 1 4 7.
Under Yu Xiaogang's guidance, he acquires a four-hundred-year Mandala Snake as his first Soul Ring. He subsequently defeats several older Soul Grandmasters in the lower-grade tournament, but cannot break Lin Chen's Chaos Shield in the final 12 14 15 16.
By graduation, Tang San has reached peak level twenty-nine and places second behind Lin Chen, with Xiao Wu third. Following his teacher's recommendation, he leaves for Shrek Academy while Lin Chen and Xiao Wu choose Heaven Dou Royal Academy. Before separating, the two boys acknowledge one another as rivals and promise another contest 17 18.
Shrek Admission and the Forest Defeat
Tang San arrives at Shrek as a twelve-year-old level twenty-nine Soul Grandmaster, surprising Dai Mubai with the strength he has achieved using Blue Silver Grass 26. During Zhao Wuji's assessment, he continues directing the group despite injury and prepares concealed weapons as ordinary attacks prove insufficient 27 28 29.
Yu Xiaogang later joins Shrek to supervise his cultivation and guard against Twin Martial Soul backlash 36. During a dispute with Heaven Dou students over a Phoenix-tail Crested Serpent, Tang San initially creates openings with Hidden Weapons. Once Lin Chen joins the confrontation, however, Shrek loses its support members and battlefield controller in succession. Tang San is suppressed by Lin Chen and struck down by Xiao Wu 43 44 49 50.
He admits defeat, reassures Ning Rongrong, and commits himself to the harsher training that follows 50 53.
Third Soul Ring and Suotuo Great Soul Arena
After breaking through to level thirty, Tang San accompanies Yu Xiaogang to the Star Dou Great Forest. He defeats a two-thousand-year Man Faced Demon Spider using Blue Silver Grass, Parasite, and crossbow volleys, then absorbs its ring to reach level thirty-three 73.
Shrek subsequently begins competing at Suotuo City's Great Soul Arena. Tang San controls team battles and partners with Tuo Mushuo in doubles. Within half a month, the Shrek Seven Devils achieve seven consecutive team victories 73 74.
New Shrek Academy and the Garden Duel
After Shrek establishes itself at the former Blue Tyrant Academy, Tai Long accuses Yu Xiaogang of favoritism and provokes Tang San by comparing him unfavorably with Lin Chen. Now level thirty-seven, Tang San defeats Tai Long through restraints and close-range martial arts 118 119 120 122.
A later dispute over Ma Hongjun's harassment of Jiang Zhu leads to another duel with Lin Chen. Tang San proposes that victory determine whether Lin Chen stops intervening; Xiao Wu objects to using Jiang Zhu's wishes as a wager 128 129.
Tang San escapes a concentrated suppression domain, fights at close range, and escalates from Dragon Whisker Needles to the Mother-Child Soul-Chasing Life-Taking Orb. Lin Chen contains the poison weapon, then overwhelms him with repeated spatially assisted strikes. Tang San is left unable to rise, with his Soul Power nearly exhausted; Yu Xiaogang arrives afterward and confronts Lin Chen over his disciple's injuries 130 131 132 133 134.
Relationships
- Tang Hao — Father and Clear Sky Douluo. Warns Tang San to conceal his hammer and avoid reckless ring absorption. His identity is kept secret because exposure to Spirit Hall would bring danger 2 36.
- Yu Xiaogang — Teacher and principal cultivation adviser. Tang San trusts his research, follows his arrangements, and fiercely defends him against criticism 17 36 45 73.
- Lin Chen — Childhood peer and central rival. Their early relationship includes mutual respect, but repeated defeats and a widening cultivation gap intensify Tang San's frustration 18 46 73 133.
- Xiao Wu — Former Nuoding schoolmate and later opponent. She repeatedly protects Lin Chen from Tang San's attacks and condemns his use of lethal weapons during their garden spar 48 49 132 133.
- Dai Mubai — Shrek teammate and frontline partner. Tang San creates openings for his attacks; Dai Mubai defends Hidden Weapons as a legitimate part of combat 43.

- Tai Long — Academy rival whom Tang San defeats after a dispute over Yu Xiaogang's training arrangements. Tai Long describes his close-range pressure-point and joint attacks as particularly vicious 119 120 122.

Notes
- Eight Spider Lances are not confirmed: Lin Chen repeatedly wonders whether Tang San obtained this External Soul Bone. After the garden duel, he concludes that Tang San apparently does not possess it, but this remains his assessment rather than a demonstrated ability 74 126 127 133.
- No Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well benefits are documented: Lin Chen specifically notes that Tang San has not received the medicinal benefits associated with that opportunity when assessing his current strength 126 127.
