Finding Some NPCs (Part 2)
library.
To be honest, Xiao Ling had hardly ever been here since entering university. With science and technology so advanced now, a mobile phone can solve the problem of reading novels or looking up information. Therefore, the function of the library is more like providing a quiet and comfortable working environment for teachers and students.
Unlike usual, there were many more students today, as if the library held some rare treasure that drew everyone to come.
"That's really strange," Xiao Ling said with a surprised expression. "There are usually very few people here, so why is it so lively today?"
"So this isn't normal?" Chisa asked, puzzled.
"Yes, this place is quite far from the dormitories and teaching area, so generally not many people make a special trip here."
"Let me ask and see what's going on."
Aemeath, being a woman of action, immediately stopped a female student passing by and asked, "Excuse me, are there any events happening in the library right now?"
"An event? No, there isn't one," the female student denied when asked. "It's just that everyone heard there's a super cute librarian here, so they all came to see her."
A cute librarian?
"Little Ai, who did you think of?" Xiao Ling had already guessed roughly who it was, and asked Aemeath's opinion with a smile.
"Hmm... if we're talking about the most suitable person for this position, it has to be that senior student!"
"Just as I thought."
Although the two did not name names, Lynae and Chisa clearly understood what Aemeath and Xiao Ling meant, and they also showed knowing expressions.
"I don't quite understand...?" Yangyang said, completely bewildered.
"They're probably acquaintances of Brother Ling and the others," Suisui explained to her younger sister. "Anyway, let's just go with them and take a look."
"Good."
Finally, led by Xiao Ling, the group followed the crowd into the library.
Miss Iris has run into some trouble.
If it were just about handling her regular duties, it would be a piece of cake for her. As the actual manager of the Star Torch Academy Deep Space Documentation Center, managing a library would be more than enough for her.
After all, the school library has already implemented intelligent management. Coincidentally, its full name is Intelligent Retrieval and Indexing System. As long as it is connected to the management network here, it can know which floor, which shelf, and which book every single book is on.
But the current situation...
IRIS rested his chin on his hand, observing the group of students in the library.
Fortunately, although the library was crowded, everyone was well-behaved and didn't disturb other students who genuinely wanted to read, which is commendable.
However, being constantly watched like this would make her feel uncomfortable, so IRIS still hoped someone would come and take her away.
Just as she was thinking this, the person who came to take her away appeared.
"Hello~" Aemeath walked briskly to her and greeted her with a sweet smile.
"Good afternoon~ I'm Iris, the librarian. How can I help you?" Iris recognized the person at a glance, but didn't make a sound, acting as if it was their first meeting.
"Um, when I was browsing in the library just now, I noticed a book that was clearly still on the shelf, but it wasn't there when I went to check it. Could you please come with me to take a look?" Aemeath asked with a sweet smile.
Such an obvious mistake couldn't possibly happen under IRIS's nose, so she quickly realized that the other party was making excuses for her to run away.
"Really? Maybe there was a mistake in the recording," IRIS said cooperatively. "Then I'll trouble you to take me there to take a look."
"Good!"
In this way, Little Ai easily led the senior student out of the students' sight, and the students, seeing this, wisely left in groups.
"I'm saved..." IRIS sighed. "It's really uncomfortable to be the center of attention..."
"IRIS is quite popular at school," Aemeath said with a squinty smile. "And, it seems you have a physical form now?"
"Yes, that's right, but I've still retained my original functions, which feels quite amazing," IRIS remarked. "Back at the Star Torch Academy, my activities were limited to the Deep Space Documentation Center, since my true form is a machine, and this appearance was something I chose for myself."
"And you tell me, isn't that absurd? I inexplicably arrived here and suddenly found myself in a human body. Even science fiction wouldn't dare to write something like this—but for me, of course, it's all good; at least I can enjoy delicious food on my own."
"That's a good thing."
This time, it was a boy who spoke. IRIS looked in the direction of the voice and saw Xiao Ling waiting for her by the bookshelf with people she knew and didn't know.
"Hey, hello senior." Xiao Ling greeted her warmly.
"Logically speaking, you should be considered my senior now," IRIS said playfully. "Rover Wanderer, it's been a long time. You're surrounded by many admirers!"
"This is a blessing I've earned." Xiao Ling smiled and shrugged. "Getting back to the point, you have a physical form now?"
"That's right... Hey, hey, hey, what are you two doing!"
Before IRIS could finish speaking, Lynae and Chisa immediately began checking if her development was normal.
"... It seems my senior was right," Chisa confirmed. "There are no traces of mechanical construction, and veins are visible on the back of her hand, confirming that she does indeed possess human characteristics."
"Amazing! How did you do that? You managed to turn IRIS-senpai from an AI into a real person?!" Lynae exclaimed in astonishment.
"Is there anything wrong with your body?" Xiao Ling asked again to confirm.
"Nothing's wrong," IRIS denied. "At least, apart from having normal physiological reactions, I haven't experienced any major problems."
"That's good." Xiao Ling nodded. "Are you comfortable here?"
"To be honest, I'm a bit free," IRIS said honestly. "After all, my job now is much easier than it was at the Star Torch Academy. Compared to searching for various technical terms, remembering which book is on which floor, which row, and which number is much easier."
"For you, categorizing things is actually the easiest part?" Xiao Ling raised an eyebrow.
"Otherwise what? Don't underestimate my computing power!" IRIS said, hands on his hips. "Anyway, I'm quite comfortable here. Of course, I'd be even more comfortable if not so many people were watching me."
"What, afraid of being caught slacking off and having it posted on the school forum?"
"Don't say things that are so obvious!"
