Xiao Ling’s father is deceased. A Sonoro sequence shows his childhood home while his father was still alive, with Xiao Ling answering the door and being told to welcome visitors inside 266.

He later endured poverty alongside his mother, Xiao Yue. Their old neighborhood remained important to him even after their circumstances improved: he remembered surviving on inexpensive noodles, receiving free extra portions, and rationing cheap steamed buns. Although his relatives eventually treated them well, he never forgot the years when he and his mother depended on each other 11.

When Xiao Yue brought him back to the Xiao family, Xiao Ling initially clashed with his cousin Xiao Xue. Their shared interest in Wuthering Waves gave them common ground, and he improved her struggling account’s equipment setup. At home, he banters, makes suggestive jokes, and deliberately provokes his companions—often receiving slaps, kicks, or other comic retaliation. His confidence does not prevent him from immediately backing down before Grandma Lin or his mother 12 14 17 33.

His care for others is practical. He cooks, provides accommodation, teaches unfamiliar household routines, and notices unsafe living conditions. Cartethyia’s willingness to endure a dilapidated room does not convince him that he should leave her there, and he takes responsibility for helping the displaced students once he learns their circumstances 2 12 26 43 224.

He is fiercely protective when someone he loves is threatened. After saving Dania from a knife-wielding attacker, he continues beating the assailant, but the narration specifies that he controls his strength and understands the legal limits rather than intending to kill him 21 22.
