A Two-on-Two Soul Fight!
Tang Ya and Dugu Yanran could both be counted among the foremost beautiful girls. In theory, having two beauties present at once should have been a feast for the eyes.
Even if they were confronting each other, it should not have been a particularly frightening sight.
And so it was. The onlookers were drawn to the respective charms of Dugu Yanran and Tang Ya, and inwardly lamented that both already had someone in their hearts.
But Tang Ya and Dugu Yanran paid no attention to what the onlookers thought and continued their argument.
Dugu Yanran shouted, "Tang Ya, don't push it too far! We've already given this junior the compensation he was owed, so don't take an inch and demand a mile!"
Tang Ya replied with a look of disdain, "Taking an inch and demanding a mile? This is just the compensation he deserves!"
"You rotten grass root!"
"Snake woman!"
Before long, their argument over compensation for Huo Yuhao's losses turned into a personal quarrel.
Like children of three or four, they began calling each other all sorts of names, for no reason other than to vent their indignation!
Just as the two were locked in a furious quarrel, a voice called out, "Enough, you two, stop arguing!"
They turned toward the voice and saw a gentle, refined young man looking at them helplessly.
He was Mu En's great-great-grandson, Mu Bei Bei, and Tang Ya's boyfriend.
Dugu Yanran looked at Mu Bei Bei and said, "What, do you want to demand compensation for your Tang Sect's blue-haired boy's emotional distress too?"
Bei Bei merely raised both hands and denied it. "No. After all, Xu Sanshi has apologized for his actions and given Yuhao some compensation. If our Tang Sect keeps dwelling on this, we'll only look petty."
Hearing this, Dugu Yanran nodded in agreement and muttered under her breath that the Tang Sect finally had someone reasonable.
But no sooner had she finished speaking than Bei Bei continued, "Even so, you still wrecked my junior brother's stall. So, as the Tang Sect's eldest senior brother, I still have to defend my junior brother's dignity."
Xu Sanshi, who had thought the matter was over, could not help curling his lip. "Then what do you want? I've already taken several Dragon Whisker Needles from your Tang Ya. Isn't that enough to let you vent?"
"Of course it's not enough!" Bei Bei said sternly. "This was my junior brother's first time selling grilled fish here, and you smashed his stall. That was trampling on his dignity. How could a mere few Dragon Whisker Needles be enough?"
"If you want our Tang Sect to drop the matter, then let's meet in the Soul Fighting Zone!"
Hearing this, Xu Sanshi said impatiently, "A soul fight it is. Let's see if you can break through my defense this time!"
But just as the two were preparing to head to the Soul Fighting Zone, Dugu Yanran, who had quieted down, spoke up. "The Soul Fighting Zone? That's a good idea, but I think a fight between just the two of you would be a little boring. After all, you two end up in a draw the vast majority of the time."
"Then what do you suggest, snake woman?" Tang Ya looked at Dugu Yanran in displeasure. She loathed Dugu Yanran from the bottom of her heart for always opposing her.
Dugu Yanran ignored Tang Ya's ominous gaze and continued, "The ancients said that husband and wife are one: when one prospers, both prosper; when one suffers, both suffer. Although Sanshi and I are only engaged, we still count as husband and wife."
"And you and Bei Bei are boyfriend and girlfriend, Tang Ya. So I propose a two-on-two soul fight: Sanshi and me against you and Bei Bei!"
Her words shocked the spectators, who had been watching the drama unfold. Two-on-two matches were common at Shrek, but a fight between two couples was another matter entirely!
Seeing the spectators beginning to stir, Bei Bei could only accept Dugu Yanran's proposal.
Truthfully, Bei Bei did not think much of his chances in this match. If it were just a one-on-one fight between him and Xu Sanshi, he would still have some chance of winning. If all else failed, he could simply fight Xu Sanshi to a draw.
But with Dugu Yanran there, the scales of victory would tip in Xu Sanshi's favor.
Because of the Spirit Contract Pagoda, Dugu Yanran and Xu Sanshi's families were on excellent terms. As a result, not only were both of them exceptionally skilled in battle, but they also worked together with remarkable coordination.
Their combined fighting strength was therefore far greater than a simple one plus one.
By contrast, although Bei Bei and Tang Ya were a couple, Tang Ya's own talent was limited, and her Martial Soul was only Blue Silver Grass.
Even with the Tang Sect Secret Arts, Tang Ya's fighting strength was limited when she could not use Hidden Weapons. So if Bei Bei and Tang Ya wanted to win this soul fight, they could only rely on some outside help.
Bei Bei glanced in Huo Yuhao's direction, and when Huo Yuhao saw his look, he understood what his eldest senior brother was planning.
Although he felt somewhat sorry toward Xu Sanshi, this was for the Tang Sect's honor, so their Tang Sect could not lose this fight!
Just then, Xu Xingyu and his companions came over to Xu Sanshi and asked what was going on.
Earlier, when Dugu Yanran and Tang Ya began arguing, they had attracted the attention of Xu Xingyu's group. Seeing the two quarrel, the group decided to watch for the time being and ask what had happened once they had calmed down.
Seeing that it was their superior, Xu Xingyu, asking about the situation, Dugu Yanran and Xu Sanshi dared not be remiss and told him the whole story, from beginning to end.
After hearing everything, Xu Xingyu and his companions all wore somewhat strange expressions. This matter had indeed been Xu Sanshi's fault, and if Huo Yuhao had been dissatisfied with his compensation, it would have been reasonable for him to ask for more.
But the situation now was that Huo Yuhao had already accepted Xu Sanshi's compensation and apology, only for Tang Ya to barge in and turn the matter into a complete mess.
Xu Xingyu could only say that the Tang Sect truly lived up to its name, defending its own to an unreasonable extent as always. However, he had reason to suspect that the main reason Tang Ya had lost her temper was still that she had not gotten to eat Huo Yuhao's grilled fish.
The others present held much the same opinion, all thinking that Tang Ya's actions were somewhat unreasonable.
Wang Dong'er was especially disappointed by what Tang Ya had done. After all, she came from the Clear Sky Sect and had grown up listening to the legends of the Tang Sect.
Had her family not already submitted to the Spirit Contract Pagoda, she would have wanted to seek out a member of the Tang Sect and become their disciple herself.
And now, after finally meeting a Tang Sect disciple, who was even the current master of the Tang Sect-
Was she being told that this sect master was no different from a middle-aged woman staging an accident to extort money!?
This had completely shattered Wang Dong'er's illusions about the Tang Sect.
Xu Xingyu could only console her by saying that every sect had its moments of glory, but not every sect had the ability to preserve that glory.
Some sects would ultimately be blinded by their past glory, becoming hidebound, backward, and unwilling to make progress.
So one could not judge things solely by their past; one also had to see whether they were now capable of preserving that former glory.
