Nangong Wanyu was born into the Nangong Family and was deeply attached to her mother. When she learned her mother was secluded within the family estate, she enlisted Jiang Wan and Venerable Yu Yi to find her. The reunion revealed that her mother was gravely endangered and urged Wanyu to flee; Jiang Wan used a Random Teleportation Talisman to send her mother away. 61 62

The Nangong Family repeatedly attempted to reclaim Wanyu. Their pursuit was tied to their control over her mother, whose Water Spirit Root they intended to exploit, and to the Heart Devouring Gu threat placed through a rabbit in Wanyu’s Spirit Feeding Bracelet. Wanyu feared that returning would result in a Soul Imprint and complete loss of freedom. 62 212 240

After Nangong Shuyin attempted to forcibly take her away, Venerable Yichen removed Wanyu from the Nangong Family’s reach and accepted her as his second disciple. 76 216 She later learned that the family deliberately cultivated women with Pure Yin Bodies and single Water Spirit Roots as tools for exchange with the Joyful Union Sect. This revelation hardened her resolve to destroy the Nangong Family. 335

During the Ancient Ruins expedition, Wanyu achieved Foundation Establishment under attack and continued to travel with Jiang Wan and Xu Hengliang. After the Nangong Family’s destruction, the Divine Soul Attraction Method revealed that the residual soul of Xuanyuan Yu was Wanyu’s father. She reunited him with her mother, learning that Nangong Qingtian had been responsible for Xuanyuan Yu’s death. 406 407
