Background / History

Clear Sky Sect Heir

Tang Hao was the son of a Clear Sky Sect master, the younger brother of Tang Xiao, and the grandson of Tang Chen. He regarded the reputations of his sect and grandfather as things he had sworn to protect. His talent earned him the position of sect heir and an inherited Soul Bone at thirty 29.

His father sent him and Tang Xiao out to travel for ten years. The brothers became known as the Clear Sky Twin Stars, and Tang Hao received the treasured title of “Clear Sky” even before reaching Level 80. Tang Chen had previously held that title 29.

Ah Yin and Spirit Hall’s Pursuit

During their travels, both brothers fell in love with Ah Yin. Tang Xiao quietly returned to the sect so that Tang Hao and Ah Yin could remain together. Tang Hao felt guilty toward his brother but admitted to himself that he would not give Ah Yin up even if he could choose again. On the night Tang Xiao departed, Ah Yin revealed that she was a Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast in human form 25 29.

According to Tang Hao, Qian Xunji subsequently sent Spirit Hall forces to search for them and intercept their movements. Tang Xiao, by then a Titled Douluo, prevented Spirit Hall from gaining an advantage at the Clear Sky Sect. Their gravely ill father learned of the situation and died before Tang Hao could see him again 30.

Tang Hao recounted that Qian Xunji finally found them on the day their child was born. Ah Yin sacrificed herself to the newly Level-90 Tang Hao, allowing him to escape with the child. His battle with Qian Xunji left serious injuries that remained unhealed years later 30 47.

Han Yu doubts this account, particularly the timing of Tang Hao’s breakthrough and Spirit Hall’s discovery of Ah Yin. These remain suspicions rather than a confirmed explanation of her sacrifice 30 33.

Life in Holy Soul Village

An incident involving lightning left Tang Hao with two nearly identical babies and no reliable way to identify his own son. He raised both as Han Yu and Tang San, unsuccessfully attempting to distinguish them through a supposed connection between blood relatives 1.

Grief over Ah Yin contributed to his neglect: he acknowledged that he only began paying attention to the boys when they were three. Old Jack’s assistance was essential to their survival, while Tang Hao lived as the village blacksmith 9 33.

Appearance

  • Build: Tall and muscular, with thick arms and prominent veins when angered 1 11.
  • Face: Stubbled, with a frequently gloomy or impatient expression 1 4.
  • Everyday presentation: A slovenly blacksmith whose room is dirty and untended 4 5.
  • Change in demeanor: When Han Yu confronts him as Clear Sky Douluo, his formerly dejected eyes appear bright and alert beneath his hood 27.

Personality

Tang Hao’s affection is strongly tied to whom he believes to be his biological child. Initially, Tang San’s Blue Silver Grass convinces him that Tang San is his son, and he considers making Han Yu support the younger boy’s future. After seeing Han Yu’s Clear Sky Hammer, he reverses his judgment and directs his affection and resources toward Han Yu instead 4 5 6.

His treatment of Tang San becomes both violent and calculating. He nearly kills him over the apparent destruction of Ah Yin’s surviving grass, then interprets his unusual childhood behavior as proof that he is a disguised Soul Beast. Even his later concern for Tang San’s survival is motivated by preserving a future Soul Ring and Soul Bone for Han Yu 8 9.

Pride influences his behavior as both a father and a fighter. He refuses to cry out when Han Yu badly injures his arm, enjoys Han Yu recognizing his former fame, and pushes himself against the Dark Demon Evil God Tiger while Han Yu watches. That pride has limits: faced with Di Tian, fear eventually drives him to flee 11 27 47 49.

His grief for Ah Yin remains intense. Her keepsake ring brings him to tears, and Han Yu’s Blue Silver Domain reminds him of her. He also recognizes Han Yu’s mischief and dishonesty as resembling his own childhood 5 11 33.

Abilities & Skills

Clear Sky Hammer

Tang Hao wields the Clear Sky Sect’s inherited Tool Martial Soul 29.

  • Can enlarge the hammer’s head and handle during battle, using its size and Soul Power to block incoming attacks 47.
  • Defeats Flender and Zhao Wuji, both Soul Saints, within roughly a dozen breaths 37.
  • Advises Han Yu to seek strength-type Soul Rings for his own Clear Sky Hammer 45.

Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer

A hammer technique Tang Hao demonstrates to Han Yu at the forge, explaining its movements while repeatedly striking heated iron 12.

  • Serves as Han Yu’s early instruction in hammer handling 12.
  • Is described as less practical for actual combat than the Clear Sky Nine Absolutes 47.

Clear Sky Nine Absolutes

The Clear Sky Sect’s secret art consists of nine distinctive methods of exerting force with the hammer 47.

  • Designed for practical combat rather than forging alone 47.
  • Allows Tang Hao to land a heavy blow on the Dark Demon Evil God Tiger and pursue it with repeated attacks 47.

Great Sumeru Hammer and Ring Detonation

The Great Sumeru Hammer concentrates Soul Ring power into the Clear Sky Hammer, converting it into overwhelming strength and attack power. Ring Detonation is its ultimate secret 45.

  • Each Soul Ring can be detonated once to release its power into an attack 45.
  • Higher-quality rings produce greater power but also greater backlash 45.
  • Requires exceptional talent and physical conditioning; unsuitable practitioners risk their lives 45.
  • Tang Hao detonates five of his nine rings against the Dark Demon Evil God Tiger, leaving his already injured body close to its limit 47.
  • Promises to teach Han Yu after recognizing the recovery advantage provided by Ah Yin’s Soul Bone 45.

Physical Prowess and Combat Experience

  • Speed: Moves slightly faster than Flender despite the latter’s agility-type Cat Owl Martial Soul 37.
  • Durability: Possesses a body much tougher than an ordinary person’s, though Han Yu still severely injures his unreinforced arm 11.
  • Battle awareness: Uses extensive combat experience to respond to the Dark Demon Evil God Tiger’s rapid repositioning 47.
  • Limitations: His old injuries remain unhealed, and prolonged use of powerful hammer techniques causes bleeding and severe strain 47.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Blacksmith’s hammer — Used in his village trade and to demonstrate the Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer 1 12.

  • Blue-gold storage ring — Gives Ah Yin’s keepsake to Han Yu. Its band is made from Blue Silver Grass, and it contains ten cubic meters of storage space 5.
  • Ah Yin’s Hundred-Thousand-Year right leg bone — Hidden near her surviving Blue Silver Grass and intended for his child; Han Yu finds and absorbs it 6 8 9.

Relationships

  • Han Yu — Adopted son whom Tang Hao mistakes for his biological child after seeing his Clear Sky Hammer. Becomes his secret protector and instructor, unaware that Han Yu remains deeply distrustful of him 5 12 22 33.
  • Tang San — Biological son whom he wrongly identifies as a Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast. Plans to preserve him until Han Yu can receive his supposed Soul Ring and Soul Bone 8 9 24.
  • Ah Yin — Beloved partner whose sacrifice supplied his Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Ring. He mourns her and believes Tang San destroyed her surviving grass 8 30.
  • Tang Xiao — Elder brother and fellow Clear Sky Twin Star. Tang Hao feels guilty over Tang Xiao withdrawing from their shared affection for Ah Yin 29.
  • Tang Chen — Grandfather and previous Clear Sky Douluo, whose reputation Tang Hao deeply admires 29.
  • Old Jack — Village chief who helps raise the boys, confronts Tang Hao over their treatment, and intervenes during his abuse of Tang San 2 8 33.
  • Xiao Wu — Recognizes her Soul Beast identity. His letter to Tang San invokes his own romantic past to discourage Tang San from interfering with her relationship with Han Yu 25.
  • Qian Xunji — Spirit Hall pursuer whose battle with Tang Hao left lasting injuries 30 47.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Mistaken Parentage

  • Initially favors Tang San after his Blue Silver Grass awakening, reserving the academy opportunity for him and making unspecified plans for Han Yu 4.
  • Changes his conclusion after Han Yu reveals the Clear Sky Hammer, then gives Han Yu Ah Yin’s storage ring 4 5 6.
  • Believes Han Yu’s claim that Tang San trampled Ah Yin’s grass. After inspecting the valley, he attacks Tang San and fractures his wrist 7 8.
  • Concludes that Tang San’s meditation, unusual behavior, and recovery indicate a disguised Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast 8 9.

Village Incident and Secret Instruction

  • Throws the injured Tang San outside at night, persuading him that doing so is a considerate sacrifice for his family’s sleep 10.
  • Blocks Han Yu’s hammer when Han Yu mistakes the rain-soaked Tang San for a ghost, badly injuring his own arm 10 11.
  • Allows villagers to restrain him rather than expose his strength to Spirit Hall. Escapes their proposed skull-opening treatment by passing Old Jack’s questions 11 12.
  • Teaches Han Yu the Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer and warns him to conceal his hammer Martial Soul—or leave no witnesses if he exposes it 12.

Hidden Protection and the Two Letters

  • Spends most of his time protecting Han Yu in Nuoding City. Briefly follows Tang San to the Soul Hunting Forest to ensure his supposed future resource does not escape 22.
  • Leaves separate letters for the boys: Han Yu’s presents Tang San as a future ring and bone, while Tang San’s sustains the impression that Tang Hao regards him as his own son 24 25.
  • Reveals his history to Han Yu after the boy identifies him as Clear Sky Douluo 27 29 30.
  • Punishes Flender and Zhao Wuji after their confrontation with Han Yu, then orders them to keep his appearance secret 37.

Star Dou Great Forest

  • Accompanies Han Yu to obtain another Soul Ring and agrees to teach him Ring Detonation 45.
  • Nearly attacks the Three-Eyed Golden Lion before Han Yu redirects him toward the pursuing Dark Demon Evil God Tiger 46.
  • Uses the Great Sumeru Hammer, Ring Detonation, and Clear Sky Nine Absolutes against the tiger, leaving both combatants near exhaustion 47.
  • Remains at the battle site after Han Yu disappears into the tiger’s separate space, but ultimately flees when Di Tian’s arrival overwhelms him with fear 48 49.
