Background / History

Birth and Childhood

Tang San was born while his parents were being pursued by Spirit Hall. According to Ah Yin’s recollection, Qian Xunji and his accompanying forces reached their refuge during her delivery. Seeing Tang Hao wounded and their newborn child in danger, she sacrificed her hundred-thousand-year cultivation as a Soul Ring and Soul Bone, enabling Tang Hao to break through and drive back their attackers 122.

Tang Hao subsequently arrived in Holy Soul Village carrying the newborn Tang San. Old Jack remembers Tang San as an unusually capable child who began cooking, cleaning, and looking after his alcoholic father at three years old. His orderly speech, meticulous behavior, and maturity stood out even to the village’s adults 121.

Tang San cultivated the Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record from childhood. The narration later explicitly attributes his endurance during Soul Ring absorption partly to the will developed through living two lives 22 66.

Nuoding Academy

At Nuoding Academy, Tang San became Yu Xiaogang’s disciple and the leader of the working students in Dorm Seven. Before Yan Zu’s arrival, his Tang Sect techniques had allowed him to defeat several senior working students with ease 21 22.

He first saw Xiao Wu from a teachers’ dormitory window and was immediately attracted to her. Her obvious affection for Yan Zu prompted him to imagine taking Yan Zu’s place, although he initially suppressed the thought 21.

When Yan Zu entered Dorm Seven, Tang San fought him under the dormitory’s leadership rules. Despite cycling through his mastered Tang Sect techniques, he failed to land a hit. Yan Zu stopped a finger strike just short of his chest, and Tang San conceded both the match and leadership of the dormitory 22 23.

His subsequent cultivation and weapon-making became increasingly tied to surpassing Yan Zu. After two years of watching Xiao Wu’s closeness with Yan Zu, he confessed to her, arguing that his strength and future prospects made him a better choice. Xiao Wu rejected him unequivocally. Tang San nevertheless blamed Yan Zu rather than accepting her decision 30 31.

Shrek Academy

Tang San reached rank 29 before leaving for Shrek Academy with Yu Xiaogang’s recommendation. His resentment remained unresolved: he still measured his progress against Yan Zu’s apparently superior cultivation and combat strength 41.

At Shrek, his hostility escalated from competitive challenges to an unprovoked attack with a poisoned Hidden Weapon. Flender punished him with a verbal warning and one month of cleaning the training ground. The lenient response helped convince Yan Zu and his companions to leave the academy 68 69 71.

Appearance

  • At Nuoding Academy: Black hair, an ordinary face, and plain clothing; initially carries himself with a calm, scrutinizing gaze 22.
  • At twelve: Considerably taller, with delicate features and a gloomy expression between his brows 41.
  • Distinctive combat feature: His eyes glow violet when using his visual ability 31 66.

Personality

Tang San initially maintains outward composure even when defeated. After his first loss to Yan Zu, he recognizes the difference in their movement techniques and timing, acknowledges that Yan Zu spared his dignity, and formally yields his position 23.

That restraint increasingly gives way to pride and obsessive comparison. He declares that his path is to surpass everyone, including Yan Zu, and treats other people’s affection and recognition as things superior strength should secure. His sustained attention to Xiao Wu develops into possessiveness: he imagines himself as her rightful protector despite her repeated rejection 30 31.

He is industrious, devoting extensive time to cultivation and Hidden Weapon construction. However, his ambition also makes his approach to relationships transactional. On Yu Xiaogang’s advice, he attempts to befriend Ning Rongrong partly to obtain the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect’s wealth, resources, and support 30 35.

When frustrated, Tang San rationalizes increasingly dangerous behavior. After shooting a poisoned arrow at Yan Zu, he calls it a “probe” and later claims to have controlled the dose. Conversely, after Xiao Wu defeats him while avoiding serious injury, he interprets her restraint as a source of personal sweetness rather than a continuation of her rejection 58 68 69.

Abilities & Skills

Blue Silver Grass

Tang San uses Blue Silver Grass primarily for battlefield control, combining restraint, thorns, and poison 35 54 61.

Soul Skill Ring Applications and Limits
Blue Silver Entanglement First; yellow Sends grass toward targets to bind them. Restrains three Canghui students in quick succession, but fails to catch Xiao Wu’s rapid movements and cannot penetrate Yan Zu’s Jade Blessing 58 61 68.
Parasite Second; yellow; obtained from a roughly six-hundred-year-old Ghost Vine Uses parasitic seeds and thorn-bearing grass. Against the Canghui students, the thorns pierce skin and release paralyzing toxin; against Yan Zu, the seeds are destroyed on contact with his shield 30 61 68.
Spider Web Restraint Third; purple; obtained from a fourteen-hundred-year-old Crypt Spider leader Weaves a purple web more than five meters across, coated with mucus and venomous spines. The web adheres to a boulder while its venom corrodes the surface 66.

Tang Sect Secret Arts

Tang San possesses the Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record and employs its cultivation and combat methods independently of his Martial Soul 2 22.

  • Mysterious Heaven Skill — Provides inner force for his techniques and Hidden Weapons; its resilience helps him withstand his third Soul Ring’s violent energy 66 68.
  • Mysterious Jade Hand — Turns his hands lustrous white like jade during close combat 22.
  • Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track — Unpredictable movement technique used to flank opponents and launch sudden attacks 22 68.
  • Controlling Crane Capturing Dragon — One of the mastered techniques he unsuccessfully employs during his first fight with Yan Zu 22.
  • Meridian knowledge — Allows him to target bodily acupoints despite lacking a dedicated acupoint-striking technique. He attempts a strike beneath Yan Zu’s ribs intended to numb and pain half an ordinary person’s body 22.

Purple Demon Eye

A visual technique used to assess the Man Faced Demon Spider’s strength and ferocity 66.

  • Confirms the danger posed by the spider’s age when Yan Zu warns against absorbing its ring 66.
  • Does not eliminate Tang San’s emotional attachment to the opportunity; he still strongly wants the spider despite recognizing the risk 66.

Hidden Weapon Craftsmanship

Tang San designs and manufactures concealed weapons, using them for surprise attacks and as proposed self-defense tools for others 30 35 54.

  • Progresses from prototypes and incomplete designs to a functioning Godly Zhuge Crossbow 30 31 32.
  • Uses a concealed weapon against an opponent in the Soul Fighting Arena 54.
  • Modifies a Silent Sleeve Arrow with Mandala Snake venom and infuses it with Mysterious Heaven Skill’s inner force 68.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Twenty-Four Moonlit Bridges — Waist-worn Storage Soul Tool used to hold his Hidden Weapons 65.
  • Silent Sleeve Arrow — Concealed projectile weapon he crafts himself. He offers one to Ning Rongrong, and later uses a venom-coated version against Yan Zu 35 68.
  • Godly Zhuge Crossbow — Its design is seventy percent complete in Chapter 30 and finished by Chapter 32. Fires eighteen bolts in an instant and is described as capable of threatening a Soul Elder 30 32.
  • Sand Shooting Shadow — Among the Hidden Weapons he learns to craft during his Nuoding years 30 31.

Relationships

  • Yan Zu — Classmate turned fixation and enemy. Tang San repeatedly challenges him, blames him for Xiao Wu’s rejection, and eventually attempts a poisoned sneak attack. Yan Zu independently intends to prevent Tang San’s godhood because he considers it incompatible with his plans for the continent 14 31 32 68.
  • Xiao Wu — Unrequited romantic interest. She rejects his confession, identifies his secret following, and explicitly asks him to stop interfering in her life with Yan Zu 31.
  • Yu Xiaogang — Teacher and principal advocate. Guides his cultivation, recommends him to Shrek, encourages him to seek sect support, and repeatedly defends his prospects and conduct 24 35 36 41 58.
  • Tang Hao — Father and concealed protector. Neglectful in Tang San’s early village life, but later watches over him from the shadows. His presence causes Yan Zu to disguise the extent of his superiority during their matches 31 32 121.
  • Ah Yin — Mother of Tang San’s body. After hearing Yan Zu’s unverified claim that another soul may have replaced her newborn son, she accepts the accusation and becomes hostile toward Tang San 120 123 124.
  • Ning Rongrong — Prospective ally approached for her sect’s resources. Rejects his gift and his teacher’s pressure to befriend him, emphasizing respect and character over potential 35 36.
  • Oscar — Partner in the Blue Silver Sausage Soul Fighting team. Oscar’s support sustains Tang San’s control-oriented, drawn-out fighting style 54.
  • Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun — Stand alongside Tang San during the confrontation over Shrek’s treatment of Canghui Academy students 61.
  • Flender — Shrek’s dean. Gives Tang San only a warning and cleaning duty for the poisoned attack, despite objections that the punishment is inadequate 69.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Repeated Challenges at Nuoding

  • Loses Dorm Seven’s leadership after Yan Zu evades every attack and stops a decisive strike short of contact 22 23.
  • Completes seven unsuccessful challenges. Yan Zu deliberately presents the later victories as narrow wins because Tang Hao is watching 32.
  • Fails to recognize that Yan Zu is concealing his strength, prolonging his belief that another breakthrough could reverse their positions 32 41.

Shrek Conflicts

  • Objects that Yan Zu’s four-person entrance-test team has an unfair numerical advantage against Zhao Wuji 47.
  • Is comprehensively defeated by Xiao Wu in a spar arranged by Yu Xiaogang to improve her opinion of him. Her speed and clones prevent his grass from restraining her 58.
  • Helps escalate the Canghui confrontation by binding three students and poisoning them with Parasite; their injuries are expected to take ten days to half a month to heal 61.

Third Soul Ring and Lost Opportunity

  • Reaches rank 30 during the forest expedition, then seeks a spider- or snake-type beast for stronger control or attack capabilities 64 65.
  • Wants the more-than-two-thousand-year-old Man Faced Demon Spider, but instead absorbs the fourteen-hundred-year-old Crypt Spider leader and reaches rank 31 66.
  • Remains unaware when Yan Zu later obtains the Eight Spider Lances. The narration identifies their loss as a major departure from Tang San’s original growth path; Tang San does not acquire them in this continuity 67.

Poisoned Attack and Separation

  • Attacks Yan Zu after he refuses another duel. When Entanglement and Parasite fail, Tang San fires a poisoned Sleeve Arrow 68.
  • Demands another match in which the loser must leave Shrek, while minimizing the seriousness of the poisoning attempt 69.
  • Remains at Shrek after Yan Zu’s group departs, vowing to prove himself the “real genius” at their next meeting 71.

Ah Yin and the Bloodline Dispute

  • Yan Zu investigates the Blue Silver King as a means of preventing Tang San’s Blue Silver Emperor bloodline awakening. He rejects immediately killing the king and instead seeks out Ah Yin 120.
  • Yan Zu presents Tang San’s childhood maturity and unexplained weapons knowledge as evidence that Ah Yin’s original child may have died and been replaced by another soul. The alleged death and replacement are conjecture, not independently established events in the supplied passages 123.
  • Ah Yin accepts this interpretation and vows that Tang San will suffer for occupying her child’s body and benefiting from her sacrifice 124.
