Background / History

Childhood and Nuoding Academy

Ning Rongrong grew up in Heaven Dou Imperial City as Ning Fengzhi’s pampered daughter. At eight, she became fascinated by Wen Yansheng’s stories and asked her father to arrange a meeting with their author. The Song of Roland deepened her admiration: she memorized Roland’s oath and preferred its ideals to lessons concerned only with fighting 28 30 34.

Ning Fengzhi eventually enrolled her at Nuoding Academy to study, settle her temperament, and make genuine friends. There she met Yan Zu, Xiao Wu, and Little Jade. Yan Zu’s understanding of her favorite books immediately impressed her, while his harp playing faintly resonated with her Martial Soul 34 35.

She became a regular visitor to Yan Zu and Xiao Wu’s dormitory, converting a neighboring storeroom into a “literary exchange room.” She later established the Glazed Tile Residence to cultivate closer to Yan Zu. Their shared cultivation, together with Little Jade, accelerated Soul Power circulation to three times its usual rate 37.

Confession and Shrek Academy

While traveling toward Shrek, Rongrong openly confessed that she liked Yan Zu. Xiao Wu subsequently accepted her into their close relationship on the condition that she remain loyal and never betray them. Rongrong nevertheless feared that her support-only abilities would leave her unable to keep pace with either of them 44 45.

Yan Zu and Xiao Wu responded by revealing their concealed Soul Ancestor strength and admitting her to the Martial Soul Mimicry Training Ground. Yan Zu taught her combat techniques, giving her a means to defend herself without abandoning her support role 45.

At Shrek, she paid for a replacement for the academy’s dilapidated dormitory and welcomed Zhu Zhuqing into the new residence. She also completed Flender’s twenty-lap exercise alongside Yan Zu, Xiao Wu, Zhu Zhuqing, and Oscar, learning more efficient breathing and footwork during the run 48 50 56.

When Tang San attacked Yan Zu with a poisoned Sleeve Arrow, Rongrong intervened and protested Flender’s lenient punishment. The incident prompted Yan Zu to apply to withdraw from Shrek 69.

Dawn Team and Blue Tyrant Academy

Rongrong became a support member of the Dawn Team, supplying well-timed boosts while its attackers disrupted enemy formations. She also partnered with Zhu Zhuqing in the doubles combination Netherworld Glazed Tile. Against the Imperial Fighting Team, she helped sustain Dawn’s endurance-based strategy after its opponents lost their healer 73 75 77.

At Blue Tyrant Academy, she supported Liu Erlong during the confrontation with Tai Tan and was later welcomed as her student. Yan Zu’s pills and the team’s cultivation methods subsequently enabled her Martial Soul to evolve beyond the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect’s inherited limit 91 93 109 110 111.

She demonstrated the ten-story pagoda to Ning Fengzhi, Chen Xin, and Gu Rong. Her father was overwhelmed with joy, recognizing the fulfillment of a goal pursued by generations of the sect. Because the evolution could attract dangerous attention, Chen Xin remained at the academy to protect her; Rongrong consequently could not accompany Yan Zu and Xiao Wu on their visit to Nuoding City 116 117 118.

During the later Soul Hunt, Yan Zu negotiated with Xuanjia on her behalf. After the group eliminated the Cave Demon Spider threat to its clan, the dragon turtle honored its agreement and entered an equal Soul Spirit Contract with her 130.

Rongrong is described as having delicate, porcelain-doll-like features and lively, glasslike eyes 34.

Personality

Rongrong is lively, outspoken, curious, and accustomed to privilege. Her spoiled behavior can be cutting: she dismisses Tang San’s offered weapon as scrap metal and openly challenges Yu Xiaogang’s authority. However, her rejection is rooted in recognizing their attempt to obtain her sect’s resources rather than establish a sincere friendship 35 36.

She values being treated as herself rather than as Ning Fengzhi’s daughter. Her affection for Yan Zu and Xiao Wu grows partly from their willingness to do so, contrasting with the flattery and fear she encountered in Heaven Dou City. She is also generous with her wealth, sharing gifts and funding comfortable living arrangements for her companions 37 48 56.

Her pride conceals a fear of becoming unnecessary. The gap between her abilities and those of Yan Zu and Xiao Wu initially leaves her feeling inferior, but reassurance and combat training turn that insecurity into determination. She promises to become their staunchest support and later resolves to work harder when Xiao Wu pulls further ahead 45 125.

Her early admiration for Yan Zu is explicitly nonromantic, centered on books, knowledge, and shared interests. It later develops into an open romantic attachment, accompanied by jealousy toward Zhu Zhuqing and Dugu Yan and playful competition with Xiao Wu 36 44 71 116 139.
