The Phoenix Bone Catches Fire
At that moment, symbols flickered across the surface of Lei Chong's body.
They were all True Phoenix runes, each one turning into a flame that danced ceaselessly over his skin, lending him an air of profound mystery.
The True Phoenix Precious Technique was extraordinarily complex, and comprehending it was not something that could be done in a day. But Lei Chong analyzed it from its roots, breaking the technique apart so he could comprehend it from the source.
As his comprehension deepened, the flames on his body multiplied. Lei Chong seemed to have become a True Phoenix, being reborn amid the flames.
Bang!
A terrifying fluctuation pierced the void and shook Lei Chong out of it.
Too many people had attacked. No matter how fast Lei Chong was, he was bound to run into some fluctuation that would shake him out of the void.
Crack!
Lei Chong erupted with terrifying might, unleashing his full strength.
A terrifying battle began. It was the hardest battle Lei Chong had fought since putting out to sea, and he used nearly every means at his disposal.
He brought out nearly all his treasures, unleashing their power in battle.
He killed five Venerables and wounded more than ten, but he was injured as well, struck by several deities.
If he had not still possessed immunity to magical power, he would have had a hard time withstanding so many attacks.
Fortunately, he had memorized the runes by now. All that remained was to take his time and comprehend them.
"Cough." Lei Chong opened his mouth and coughed up bloody foam. His injuries were rather severe this time; even his internal organs had split open.
"Hand over the rune bone," Jin Gang said coldly.
After resting for a while, his primordial spirit had temporarily stabilized.
Lei Chong swept his gaze over the crowd, lightning flashing in his eyes. Then he glanced at the rune bone in his hand and squeezed it gently.
Crack!
The rune bone shattered into several pieces, which drifted off in every direction.
The pieces turned into streaks of light and flew in all directions.
Boom!
"You..." Jin Gang was furious. Now that the rune bone had been shattered, gathering all the pieces would be difficult and would come at a great cost.
Before he had time to dwell on his anger, Jin Gang rushed in another direction to fight the others for the pieces. The longer he delayed, the worse his position would be.
Lei Chong seized the chance to rush into the crack and enter the first hall.
Fighting was forbidden there. He intended to comprehend and master the precious technique within the rune bone there, then thoroughly investigate the place.
Whoosh!
Lei Chong turned into a streak of golden lightning and returned to the first hall through the crack.
The first hall was spacious and empty. Apart from Lei Chong, no one else had come out; clearly, they were all fighting over the rune bone.
Lei Chong paid them no mind. He immediately sat down cross-legged, scarlet flames curling and circling around his body.
He wanted to use the True Phoenix Precious Technique to heal his injuries.
Whoosh!
Flames burned and curled around Lei Chong's body. They contained a mysterious power that helped mend his injured body.
But the precious technique within was incomplete, and it always fell somewhat short.
Lei Chong was in no hurry, though. The battle above would last a long time and would not end immediately, leaving him plenty of time to comprehend it.
Whoosh!
Suddenly, a fluctuation came from overhead. Someone was trying to descend through the crack.
Lei Chong looked toward the crack. It was someone from Immortal Mountain who had seized a piece of rune bone and wanted to bring it into this space.
The newcomer was an ordinary Venerable, of course. The deities were still fighting above, vying for the other pieces of rune bone, and would not leave so easily.
Whoosh!
The moment the person stepped out of the crack, the rune bone began to tremble. At the same time, a burst of flame poured out and set him completely ablaze.
Before he could even scream, he turned into a heap of black ashes.
The rune bone broke free of his hand and returned to the palace above.
It seemed the rune bones here could not be taken away; they could only be studied within that space.
Lei Chong was also somewhat relieved that he had not rushed down as soon as he seized the rune bone. Otherwise, he too would have turned into a heap of ashes.
When he had been under siege, Lei Chong had also thought of rushing down, but a deity had guarded the crack, and he had been unable to break through it.
After this turn of events, the cultivators above were all horrified.
Some factions had already seized pieces of rune bone and had intended to send someone down with them, but after witnessing that scene, they immediately abandoned the idea.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Terrifying fluctuations came through the crack.
The battle above had reached a white-hot pitch, and more and more Venerables were dying.
Even the deities had suffered serious injuries.
Three figures among them were especially distinctive. They were not true Venerables, but their methods were so heaven-defying that they could fight those Venerables.
Boom!
That was the Divine Flame Man. A Bi Fang appeared behind him, and terrifying flames swept out in all directions, keeping some Venerables from approaching.
Hum!
The Reincarnation Disk emitted a fluctuation, and a wisp of Chaos Qi descended from it.
A Venerable failed to dodge in time and was struck by the Chaos Qi. He let out a scream as his body was crushed into a pulp.
In that Venerable's hand was a red piece of bone.
The Divine Flame Man picked up the rune bone and began studying it intently.
That fragment of the Reincarnation Disk let down Chaos Qi, protecting the Divine Flame Man beneath it.
It was because of this protection that no one dared approach him.
In two other parts of the hall, Yue Chan and the Witch each used her own methods to seize a piece of rune bone, then began their respective journeys of comprehension.
It was not just the three of them. Jin Gang had also obtained a piece of rune bone, though he was fighting while studying the runes on it.
He was simply that powerful, which was why he had the confidence to do this.
After all, throughout the battle, the only thing that had truly managed to wound him severely was Lei Chong's God-Striking Technique. Everyone else had found it difficult even to shake him.
Even if they did manage to hurt him, the injuries were only minor.
But too many Venerables had died in this battle. At least half were dead by now, and the rest had all suffered serious injuries.
In the first hall, Lei Chong was studying the True Phoenix Art. He did not yet know what was happening on the level above.
Hum!
More scarlet flames appeared around his body, dancing like clusters of True Phoenixes as they slowly healed Lei Chong's injuries.
But the process was simply too slow, the healing proceeding at a pitiful pace.
He had many spirit medicines, holy medicines, and even divine medicines on him. Any one of them could quickly heal his injuries.
But Lei Chong did not do that. He was studying the True Phoenix Precious Technique, which was said to grant rebirth through nirvana. Cultivating the technique while healing his injuries would be of great benefit in the future, and was a form of insight in itself.
Rumble!
Another fluctuation came from above, as though something had been triggered.
Then the Venerables burst out of the crack and rushed into the palace on this level.
The deities, the Witch, Yue Chan, the Divine Flame Man, and the others had all fled as well, not daring to remain inside.
"The phoenix bone is on fire! These flames are terrifying! What on earth happened?" a Venerable cried out in fear.
Lei Chong immediately looked up. Sure enough, flames had appeared above.
