Power Progression

Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Innate Soul Power: tier two 9 Shared his father’s initial aptitude, but advanced faster through sustained training.
Rank-ten Soul Power 9 Reached this rank the previous year. Refused a Soul Ring so he could continue following Chen Mo.
Blood Refiner: Health Preservation Realm 35 Developed exceptional vitality and recovery, though these did not provide equally exceptional defense.
Heart Blade: first layer nearing perfection 35 Improved through two years of Soul Arena battles. Still a ringless level-ten Soul Scholar, he could defeat Soul Ancestors.
Level twenty 40 Absorbed a twelve-thousand-year Bitter Bamboo ring. His accumulated Soul Power immediately carried him to the next ring threshold.
Level twenty-seven Soul Grandmaster 40 Absorbed a second ten-thousand-year ring from a roughly twenty-thousand-year poppy flower, gaining Excitement.
Level thirty-eight Soul Elder 44 Obtained his third ring from a World-Purifying White Lotus over thirty thousand years old, gaining Purification. Defeated a level-sixty-eight Soul Emperor.
Level thirty-nine Soul Elder 61 Fought Flender and Zhao Wuji simultaneously with three black Soul Rings, holding a slight advantage before an outside attack interrupted the spar.
Level forty-seven Soul Ancestor 71 Possessed four ten-thousand-year rings; the fourth was sixty thousand years old. Had defeated every Soul Douluo on the continent and three Titled Douluo.
Body refinement: bones tempered 72 His defenses and vitality had grown enough that ordinary minor injuries healed within minutes.
Level fifty-two Soul King 87 His fifth ring came from a hundred-thousand-year Bloodthirsty Vine. Had completed Chen Mo’s requirement to defeat ten Titled Douluo.
Level sixty; five hundred-thousand-year rings 95 Absorbed heaven-and-earth energy, repeatedly compressed his Soul Power, and upgraded his first four rings. Used his fifth Soul Skill to survive the final push.
Level sixty-three Soul Emperor 98 Possessed six hundred-thousand-year rings and a complete Soul Bone set that enabled short-duration flight.
Heart Blade: second realm, Qi Blade, at its limit 98 His attacks already showed traces of the third realm, but the Douluo World’s restrictions prevented his breakthrough.
Heart Blade: third realm; Warrior System: Planetary Level; Soul Power: level seventy 115 Completed the Heart Blade method and entered Planetary Level. Still needed another Soul Ring to become a Soul Saint.
Planetary Level Four 138 After nearly nine years on Earth, defeated ten Angel Church Super Douluo in under a minute without using a Soul Skill.
Eight-Ring Soul Douluo 141 Following another enhancement through Chen Mo’s Fifth-Tier God Card, all eight rings reached six hundred thousand years and became bloodred.

Background / History

Academy Years and Chen Mo’s Recognition

Chen Mo made Lin Yaodong his underling at Haier Junior Soul Master Academy, imposing strict obedience and physical punishment. Lin’s improved behavior persuaded his parents to bring gifts and ask Chen Mo to continue educating him. His training included the Seven Forms of the Martial God, medicinal baths, and meditation in place of sleep 4 5 9.

After reaching rank ten, Lin chose Chen Mo’s guidance over immediately becoming a Soul Master. His father believed Chen Mo was obstructing his future and attacked him with Thorn Lashing. Lin endured the blows without retaliating, then physically prevented his father from confronting Chen Mo. Their dispute led to a year-long estrangement 9 10.

Chen Mo used that year to test Lin’s patience and loyalty. After Lin completed the test without asking for a Soul Ring, Chen Mo told him to stop saying “Boss” and call him “big brother.” Chen Mo then accompanied him home, where Lin apologized to his father and was welcomed back 10 11.

Continental Travels and the Gale Falcon Trial

After graduation, Lin accompanied Chen Mo across the Douluo Continent. Regular Soul Arena matches exposed him to progressively stronger opponents, while practical errands taught him investigation and negotiation. In Heaven Dou City, he researched Dugu Bo’s steward and used bribes and a warning about poisoning to get Chen Mo’s letter accepted 10 27 35.

Chen Mo eventually permitted him to obtain Soul Rings, requiring even his first ring to be at least ten thousand years old. His subsequent trial involved retrieving a card from an eighty-thousand-year Gale Falcon’s nest. The card absorbed one egg and another burst; Lin used the surviving egg to provoke a fight between the falcon and a Titan Python, creating an opportunity to flee 38 40 41.

The escape nearly killed him. Underground Soul Beasts and the falcon’s pursuit forced repeated use of Excitement at the expense of his vitality. He reached the formation around the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well and collapsed. Much later, he returned, defeated the falcon, and deliberately spared it 41 42 71 72.

Saber Emperor and the Tang Family Conflict

Lin participated in Chen Mo’s confrontation with the Heaven Dou Empire. After Heaven Dou City’s destruction, rumors spread identifying him as the Saber Emperor. He subsequently became a prominent traveling challenger whose victories regularly attracted continental attention 52 54 60.

His spar with Flender and Zhao Wuji was interrupted by a poisoned crossbow attack. He refused to dismiss an attempt on his life merely for Flender’s sake. Later, after learning of Tang San’s hidden-weapon plans, he resolved to handle Tang San and Tang Hao himself rather than trouble Chen Mo 61 62 77.

As Moon Shadow Wind Spirit Academy’s deputy director, Lin joined its tournament team. He intended to use Tang Hao to complete Chen Mo’s remaining challenge: defeating a level-ninety-five Super Douluo. In Spirit City, he intercepted Tang Hao’s attempted escape with Tang San and repeatedly disrupted his hammer attacks with precise saber strikes 83 87 91.

Earth and the War God Temple

Lin left the Douluo World with Chen Mo and entered the world of Swallowed Star. While traveling with Xiao Bufan’s military unit toward Jiangnan Base City, he initially concealed his true strength. During a beast tide, he abandoned that restraint and killed four Lord-level monsters, earning the name Wargod Donglin and credit for saving the 73rd Legion and Hongcheng City’s million citizens 98 102 107 108.

Over the following five years, Lin developed a mutually beneficial relationship with China’s Military. He established a scripture repository, supplied cultivation methods, and nearly eliminated King-level monsters within China’s sphere of influence. The War God Temple emerged because of his activities, and many of its civilian Wargods became his followers or disciples 116.

His prestige made him the preferred leader for China’s expedition into newly opened ruins. The state authorized him to distribute the expedition’s gains, and the Military accepted his chosen personnel without alteration. His later sparring with Hong demonstrated that Hong’s domain had overtaken his earlier advantage 117 124.

Later Journeys and Fatherhood

After returning to the Douluo World, Lin answered Xiao Wu’s request to confront Spirit Hall over the deaths of her Soul Beast friends. His training on Earth allowed him to overwhelm ten Angel Church Super Douluo at once. Before leaving again, he provided his family with resources intended to sustain its prosperity 138 149.

In the Bad People World, Lin challenged members of the Xuanming Sect, Illusory Sound Workshop, and Tongwen Hall. He intervened when the Xuanming Sect pursued Ziyi, declaring that he would protect her. Their intimate relationship resulted in a daughter, for whom he accepted responsibility 161 166 188.

He later accompanied Chen Mo to Han in the world of The Legend of Qin: Nine Songs of the Moving Heavens. Now a father, he declined Chen Mo’s suggestions of romantic entertainment. During this journey, he also demonstrated rudimentary spatial techniques in combat 188 190.

Appearance

Lin Yaodong’s Blood Refiner training made him unusually tall and physically imposing from an early age. He is later described as handsome, resolute, and masculine, with a calm bearing 10 72.

  • Height: Over 1.8 meters by the confrontation with his father, noticeably taller than him 10.
  • Facial features: Thick eyebrows and large eyes 188.
  • Physical presence: His vigorous blood and Qi distinguish him from the deathly aura associated with Xuanming Sect members 166.
  • Battle injuries: Returned from the Gale Falcon rematch with bandages on his body and right hand despite his strong natural recovery 72.

Personality

Lin’s loyalty to Chen Mo rests on his belief that the training has genuinely transformed his future. He accepts discipline as repayment for that guidance and refuses to divulge Chen Mo’s secret methods, even when doing so might explain his choices to his father. Nevertheless, he recognizes Chen Mo’s petty tricks and privately complains about being set up 9 11 27.

He is disciplined, persistent, and willing to risk his life for advancement. His routine on Earth consists largely of cultivating and killing monsters. During his Soul Ring enhancement, he continues after exhausting his potential and most of his vitality; Chen Mo acknowledges that Lin’s courage and resolve surpass his own 95 116.

Lin can be ruthless toward enemies without treating every contest as a death match. He spares Li Yan and the Gale Falcon after defeating them. His reputation for revenge is similarly selective: he generally does not hunt down escaped enemies, but may kill them if they cross his path again 35 72 83.

He respects family obligations and people who protect others. He refuses to strike back at his father, praises soldiers for risking their lives for civilians, and accepts responsibility for his daughter. Although uninterested in political authority for its own sake, he understands the limits of favors and deliberately builds loyal civilian forces alongside his military connections 9 108 116 117 188.

Abilities & Skills

Heart Blade and Saber Combat

Heart Blade is a third-tier Martial Dao cultivation method with three realms: Hand Blade, Qi Blade, and Heart Blade. Lin selects it partly because its emphasis on mind and soul supports the absorption of older Soul Rings 13.

  • Efficient technique: Uses direct cuts, precise timing, and minimal wasted movement rather than elaborate exchanges of Soul Skills 35.
  • Soul Power control: Channels energy into his saber without allowing it to leak away 61.
  • Sword-Drawing Slash: Releases a large blade of saber Qi; shattered Flender’s ten incoming Qi blades 61.
  • One-Character Slash: Wounded Tang Hao while blocking his escape 91.
  • Combat disruption: Attacks vital points during gaps between an opponent’s movements, repeatedly preventing Tang Hao from building momentum 91.
  • Limit: As a Soul Elder, his smaller Soul Power reserve made a prolonged two-on-one battle against Soul Saints unsustainable 61.

Blood Refinement and Recovery

Chen Mo teaches Lin the Seven Forms of the Martial God and supports his development with medicinal baths. The resulting foundation emphasizes vitality and recovery 5 9 35.

  • Early strength: Could lift a thousand pounds before obtaining his first Soul Ring 9.
  • Exceptional vitality: By graduation, his vitality and recovery were estimated at dozens of times those of his peers 10.
  • Poison resistance: Cleared Jade Phosphorus Snake Venom without treatment; his resistance also helped him hunt poppy flower Soul Beasts 30 40.
  • Defensive development: Later body refinement tempered his bones and greatly strengthened his defenses 72.
  • Limits: Early Health Preservation cultivation did not prevent higher-level Soul Skills from inflicting damage faster than he could heal 35.
  • Healing cost: Ye Lingling exhausted almost all her Soul Power while healing less than a tenth of his injuries because his body required far more energy than an ordinary Soul Ancestor’s 73.

Poppy Flower Martial Soul and Soul Skills

Lin’s early Soul Skills emphasize recovery, condition restoration, and survival rather than direct attacks 40 44.

Soul Skill Source / Position Effects and Limits
Recovery / Revival First ring; twelve-thousand-year Bitter Bamboo Actively consumes Soul Power to heal. Passively accelerates recovery as injuries worsen; combined with his vitality, can restore grave injuries provided he is not killed instantly 40 72.
Excitement Second ring; roughly twenty-thousand-year poppy flower Immediately restores his condition and raises physical condition, Soul Power, speed, and strength to 1.5 times normal for ten minutes. Afterwards, his condition falls to 80% for one day. Normally usable once every three days; forced reuse consumes vitality and causes mild addiction 40.
Purification Third ring; World-Purifying White Lotus over thirty thousand years old Removes negative statuses, restores peak condition, and supplies a damage-absorbing shield for up to three seconds. Has a five-minute cooldown and can affect Lin and his teammates simultaneously 44.
Immortality Named as his fourth Soul Skill Activated with his other skills during the Gale Falcon rematch; its individual effect is not explained there 72.
Immortality Fifth Soul Skill; fifth ring from a hundred-thousand-year Bloodthirsty Vine Envelops him in the power of laws, keeping him alive while he finishes upgrading his rings 87 95.
  • Excitement restriction: Chen Mo temporarily sealed the skill after Lin’s repeated overuse. Purification allowed it to be unsealed, but Chen Mo still ordered him to reserve it for life-threatening situations and avoid reuse within seven days 44.
  • Naming overlap: Both the fourth skill in the Gale Falcon battle and the fifth skill during his ring enhancement are called Immortality 72 95.

Soul Bones and Spatial Techniques

Lin possesses the external Soul Bone Willow Heart and five other Soul Bones, assembled into a set 98.

  • Short-duration flight: The set addresses his previous inability to fight in the air 98.
  • Space Penetration: His left-arm Soul Bone allows an attack to reach any location within one hundred meters; cooldown is one hour. He combines it with Sword-Drawing Slash to kill the Phantom Cheetah 107.
  • Rudimentary spatial power: Later severs more than a dozen enemies’ heads from over ten zhang away without damaging their surroundings 190.

Restrictions and Training Arrays

Through study and Chen Mo’s assistance, Lin develops adjustable restrictions tailored to his own cultivation 161.

  • Power suppression: Can seal internal power, Soul Power, mental power, and spiritual power 161.
  • Gravity training: Uses a separate restriction to place his otherwise unsuppressible physical body under dozens of times normal gravity 161.
  • Mental detection: Once unsealed, can scan the surrounding area and identify nearby pursuers 161.
  • Array knowledge: Can judge an array’s quality, though he is not an array grandmaster 161.

Investigation and Leadership

Lin applies Chen Mo’s practical lessons to negotiation, intelligence gathering, and organizing cultivators 27 116 117.

  • Targeted persuasion: Researches a gatekeeper and steward’s circumstances rather than relying solely on rank or threats 27.
  • Expedition planning: Organizes military and civilian Wargods while assigning defense and communications to a rear group 117.
  • Cultivation instruction: Supplies martial methods through his scripture repository, contributing to China’s rapid growth in warriors and Wargods 116.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Exquisite Long Saber — Second-tier weapon from the Dungeon, obtained by Chen Mo through a treasure chest and used in Lin’s Soul Arena battles 35.
  • Replacement sabers — Carries multiple weapons supplied by Chen Mo; prolonged fights against Bitter Bamboo and the Gale Falcon dull or break several 40 71.
  • Healing and detoxification pills — Used during dangerous hunts, after severe injuries, and following the poisoned crossbow attack 40 61 72.
  • Protective talismans — Applies several during the Heaven Dou Empire’s final assault 52.
  • Life-saving item — Given by Chen Mo after Lin passes his assessment 52 54.
  • Soul Bone set — Includes Willow Heart and five other bones; their ages initially range from under ten thousand to one hundred thousand years 98.

Relationships

  • Chen Mo — Mentor and acknowledged big brother. Their relationship develops from enforced obedience into deep loyalty; Lin credits Chen Mo with opening a future beyond his original aptitude 4 9 10 124.
  • Father Lin — Father and a rank-twenty-two Soul Grandmaster. Their disagreement over delaying Soul Rings causes a year-long estrangement before reconciliation 9 10 11.
  • Younger brothers and family — Lin leaves substantial resources to support the family’s future before departing the Douluo World 149.
  • Ziyi — Intimate partner from the Illusory Sound Workshop. He protects her from Xuanming Sect pursuers; their relationship results in his daughter 161 188.
  • Daughter — Her birth leads him to take responsibility as a father and decline further romantic entertainment 188.
  • Xiao Wu — Traveling companion. Helps him check for Tang Hao’s presence and later asks him to confront Spirit Hall on behalf of her slain Soul Beast friends 87 138.
  • Ye Lingling — Academy colleague who treats his injuries after the Gale Falcon rematch, despite the extraordinary energy required 73 83.
  • Tang San — Repeated adversary. Lin resents his hidden-weapon attack but still regards his combat skill and awareness as exceptional at equal power 62 77 151.
  • Tang Hao — Opponent selected to fulfill Chen Mo’s Super Douluo challenge; fights Lin in Spirit City 87 91.
  • Ning Fengzhi — Information contact who agrees to help locate Tang Hao and warns Lin about Tang San’s hidden weapons 77.
  • Xiao Bufan — Military companion whose unit welcomes Lin during the migration to Jiangnan Base City 102 108.
  • Hong and Thunder God — Sparring partners whose growth pushes Lin to improve. Lin initially defeats both, but later concedes to Hong after the latter develops a domain 116 124 138.
